Two new Hasbro Transformers Trademark Applications - Doom Lock, Anyone?

Posted on 07-23-2012 at 12:33 PM by Sol Fury under Other News
Doom-Lock
Our friends over at Transformers @ The Moon have shared with us some recent findings from the USPTO. Hasbro have applied for two new trademarks.

One of these trademarks is for Transformers, under the heading of Entertainment services in the nature of an amusement park ride so this one we know relates to Transformers the Ride.

The other is under the usual category for toy registration, and this one is for Doom Lock. For those who can remember the Transformers Energon line from 2004-5, Doom-Lock was a dinosaur Transformer, a redeco of Cruellock. Since the only history of the name is connected to dinosaur Transformers, and we've got a new toy of Grimlock in the pipeline for Transformers Fall of Cybertron, could this trademark application be in anticipation of an evil redeco of Grimlock?

Stay tuned for more news as it emerges.

miscreant
So we have a candidate for a FOC Grimlock repaint then, i wonder?
Stardust262
That's interesting. The only thing I can think of would be a repainted/retooled FOC Grimlock as miscreant suggested
Soundwinder
Yeah, first place my mind went.

Weird choice, though. It's so... similar to Grimlock. I'd sooner go Overkill, or Dinobot, or... iunno, even T-Wrecks.

Ugh. The possibillity that they'd waste the FoC Grimlock repaint on Doom Lock saddens me. It's just such a nonentity and has fairly uninspiring colors.

What would I like to see?

Either Snapdragon (as a G1 Con who hasn't been redone) or PREFERABLY remolded as Monsterbot Doublecross or Grotusque. Either of those Monsterbots would be workable with new beast (and possibly robot) heads and some added wings. THAT would be amazing.

-ZacWilliam, admits he's biased. Grotusque is one of my favorite G1 guys.

FOC Grimlock into Doom-lock sounds awesome.
UltimusPrime
This seems to be the route Hasbro is taking with the non stop Repaints!
Kantus Prime
Doom Lock certainly fits the Grimlock mold. Color me intrigued.
Onslaught24
so that's who he is
Gryph
Haha! So we're getting a Nemesis Grimlock.

Except it'll probably have a new head.
Grimwolf100
oh man! i hope we do get a doomlock repaint. the name is so daft that i cant help but love it!
Boy Blunder
Part of me wonders if they're using Doom-lock as a fallback for not being able to get the Cruellock name again.

If only because I'd rather have it in Cruellock's colors.

Agreed

Don't know a lot about the Doom Lock figure.

But all odds point at FOC Grimlock being an eventual Trypticon repaint. Granted there's a significant size difference but since there's obviously no plans on making a G1 or WFC accurate Tryp, that wouldn't stop people from buying it and Hasbro knows it.

That's more of a club thing. Doom Lock seems far more likely.

It's also not a stretch, considering the retail versions of the FoC Combaticons are in Energon colors.
Omega Charge
I'll jump on any excuse to buy extras of the Grimlock mold. And an evil Grimlock sounds awesome.

Wait so you think that a Trypticon repaint wont sell just as well as Grimlock would?

Seriously???

Doom Lock is more likely to be a repainted Club thing before Tryp would... But for the sake of them renewing this trademark I'd agree to Doom Lock being a Shrek-former property despite all the FOC speculation anyway.

Actually that maybe why they went that way as it gives them much leeway for writing an all new bio while not having to worry much about hard core fans of the character demanding certain character traits.
Blitz.
I'd put money on it being a nemisis style name for grimlock.
Soundwinder
New bio?

Hell, they'd probably have a full new color scheme. I mean, they're really not encumbered by anything. No one would mind if they used it as an excuse to release Grimlock in Godzilla colors, or G2, or what have you.

Oooooh. If we get Trypticon colours...

...you fap to hunks of Chinese import plastic..?
Stygian360
Weird that we're already discussing repaints for a toy yet to see wide distribution, but I suppose that's nothing new. I love the FOC Grimlock mold enough to buy multiple repaints, so I say bring 'em on.

Seems sensible enough given what we've seen on the horizon so far, and I particularly refer to deriving Ruination/Wreckers out of the FoC Bruticus/Combaticons molds.

My comedic guess, if it can be called that: Doom Lock is Lockdown's upgraded form.
ubertenorman
Maybe he'll be a member of Thundertron's crew? I'd love a t-rex with an eyepatch

That would be awesome.
Robogeek28
There's not many bots that can really work well using the FOC (or any for that matter)Grimlock mold.

That being said Doom-Lock is one of those that can't.

Don't care what Hasbro do with it, but when I get the TFC dinobot combiner that I'm going to repurpose as Dinocons, that's what I'm calling the T-Rex.

Dooooooom-Lock!
TFfanmaiku
Well if they are going to use the Grimlock mold I hope they at least change the robot head.

I didn't say that at all. The only time Grimlock has ever had Trypticon's color scheme, is SG Grimlock. A club toy. I'm not saying Hasbro couldn't decide to do that. I'm saying there is simply more precedent for the club to do it than Hasbro. Because they're the only ones who have done it. Hell, Doom Lock could very well get Trypticon's color scheme, if it is meant to be a Nemesis Grimlock. It is black, after all.

Also, Please stop with the Shrek-formers thing. It's never going to catch on. Most people probably don't even understand what you're talking about when you use it.

Interesting. As mentioned by a few already, the only thing I think this could possibly be is a FOC Grimlock recolor.
