I actually like those. They look pretty slick and are a nice blend of G1/Transformer references and athletic shoe designs. I think I want these, I just hope they're not too limited.

Very Interesting to see the use of a football helmet facemask and visor into the design of the logo. Pretty well done if you ask me.

So does Hasbro not have a trademark on the "Megatron" name or something? It's not like he is, or has been, "Decepticon Megatron" on packaging. There HAS to be something preventing Nike from using that name on Merchandise. Perhaps the split words "Mega" and "Tron" imply two different words (Lawyer friendly) and thus create the illusion of one?

Disney would probably have an issue w/ Nike using "Tron".

usually i dont care about Sports Athletes nicknames, and I'm not gonna say that Calvin johnson should stop being called "Megatron", but either they need to change the origin of how he got that nickname, or stop telling it because it makes him just sound really stupid

Strength- Sure
leaping ability? -Not really
Body control & hand-eye coordination? I dont know if these aspects have ever been examined in Transformers. I guess if you took into account that some continuities reveal him to be a gladiator but still, I think thats grasping its straws

these megs from a few years back were pretty hot. sadly I wear sasquatch size 16 and they weren't made that big so I had to pass. much better then the new calvin ones though, imo, and a helluva lot nicer package deal for TF fans.

Nothing resembles Megatron, so Nike can get away from being warned by Hasbro for this one.

I think it was more of a "Megatron is a destructive, imposing force...like Calvin Johnson" bit and not a strict "Holy crap, Megatron is physically so similar to Calvin" bit.

Well, this is a Calvin Johnson shoe with Transformer references due to the nickname. I actually like that the logo approximates the Decepticon logo without it being the Decepticon logo itself. They're not trying to make an actual Transformer shoe, just a Calvin Johnson shoe that plays on the Megatron nickname.

I don't see what the big deal is with the logo. I'm sure if they really wanted to do a Transformers shoe, connected to Calvin Johnson or not, they could if they wanted to (why would Hasbro say no, if approached).

Any Corner Back who totaly owns him in a game shoudl be called Optimus Prime heh...

They should've just released more licensed g1 themes like they did a few years back. Could've done some designs with Dunks, Air Forces, or Vandals. Pretty shitty for Nike to try to implement a Decepticon styled emblem like that. And, I'm not just speaking as a Transformers fan, but as a Nikehead as well.

Me thinks they are as overrated as Calvin Johnson or overrated as the Lions this year.

I dig'em! I wish Calvin played for the Bears, but I'd buy two pairs of these. One to wear and one to keep for display. I like the design of the shoes and I'm not bothered by the take on the Decepticon logo. I've gotten use to altered (FP Insecticons) or no logos on 3rd party items and when I think about it, it makes sense for the robots to be truly in disguise sans symbols. I haven't bought Nike in years but these are a serious consideration. As for Calvin having the "Megatron" nickname it doesn't matter how or why he has it as it is good press for Transformers and good for us.

How many Megatron's does Calvin have and how many has he helped sell to NFL or Lions fans?

If I was gonna buy Transformery footwear, especially at the prices these things usually are, I'd want them to be proper TF footwear.

I was thinking the same thing. Isn't this just Nike putting out "third-party" Transformers apparel? Where's the anti-third party crowd? Shouldn't they be here calling for Hasbro to sue Nike for stepping on their IP? That faction symbol is clearly derived from the TF brand, they're using the name Megatron, and they're fully acknowledging what they're doing. They even say they're mimicking the G1 packaging's grid design. Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with this. Heck I would love to get one of those hoodies.

Unless of course there is some deal between the two companies, but if that were the case I would think we would be seeing more Hasbro branding. Then again the official TF facebook page is sharing a link to the Nike press release.

I imagine they've got some kind of agreement. This isn't the first nike/transformers crossover product, after all, though the last set was done through Takara.
