Following their trend this season of testing TV and movie myths, the Discovery Channel show Mythbusters will be tackling the Transformers in an upcoming episode on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 9:00PM EST
Episode summary:
Myths tested:Adam and Jamie attempt the mechanical metamorphosis of a car becoming a motorcycle and a bicycle becoming a boat.
I just hope that Jaime and Adam don’t resort to their normal routine of just blowing up stuff at the end of the episode. I’d hate to see them take out their frustrations with mass shifting on an innocent Transformers figure.
Discuss on the boards what these crazy guys have in store for the Transformers.

It is scientifically possible for sentient robots exist.

No fucking robots?!?! No fucking thank you!!!! It's not bicycles vs. boats!!! It's autobots vs. deceptions!!!!! JEEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roadbuster25
That's one show I won't bother watching.

Actually Transformers are Aliens from another Planet, and therefore Scientifically possible……
There could be life out there, who are we to say they aren't Sentient Robots?
That being said, Make a Truck Transform into a Robot Mythbusters!

What is this "hip" feel that everyone keeps referring to? Because the only thing that seems new and hip to me at all is the opening (which is admittedly more slick looking and better produced).
Aside from that (and some touches like insta-notes appearing on screen as they talk but that's not such a huge change), it's the same ol' goofy Adam and Jamie dynamic we've always seen (minus the trio which is a huge change since I'm not entirely convinced Adam and Jamie, as much as I love them, are enough to carry the whole show for an entire hour by themselves). They even kept the same ol' announcer voice guy.

Same here.
I really enjoy the show, but I'm not sold on the new direction yet. I guess I understand that it needed to be changed.. But, so far this season, I haven't liked the "hip" new feel.
I think they lost a little scope when they got rid of the "build team". To think the show is missing them.

Like it or not, Mythbusters has made Discovery relevant, hip, and cool. Without Mythbusters, this station was destined to go to shit. And they do make science pretty fun
Ramjet555
Such a negative Nancy. Nobody is forcing you to watch it. If people enjoy it, let them enjoy it.
TheBigBad
Precisely.

Bit miffed they canned Kari, Tory and Grant. Especially Kari.

I still enjoy MythBusters, but apparently this basically just refers to the definition of "something that changes into another form or shape." So, while it's interesting to see the show being discussed on this site, this thread only exists because the episode title matches the franchise this fandom is based around. Not really necessary then. *shrug*

Nothing will ever compare to when they blew up the cement mixer in what…season 1
DrGrim
Dude, Transformers isn't grounded in reality at all… There's nothing to tackle… We know it's all way out there, and that's why we love it. Or at least that's why I do.
ZeroiaSD
Yea, Discovery really slowed down promoting them for awhile, and the last season or two was less-good as it skipped over a lot of the lab and build work to just get to the explosions and stuff. But the new season is back to basics, lotsa science and showing how they build what they build (though, unfortunately, the Build Team left. Money matters apparently).

Actually many of the first two have been produced as segments and then shit-canned. Anything to do with sexuality falls under that hammer too. They've shown excerpts from the bin before.
Autovolt 127
I wonder if the Mythbusters are aware that TFA Wheeljack is a homage to them?
TheBigBad
Meaning they are examining people who take one object and transform it into something else… Not Autobots and Decepticons.

I'm pretty sure those "idiots" have more schooling and training in the fields of engineering and Hollywood special effects than most of us here combined.
Agreed. There are only so many myths and urban legends to go around, and the show's been on for years. Still, there's a lot of potential for new episodes based on what we see in TV and movies, which happens to work out since there are a lot of myths and urban legends that get propagated by pop culture and on television and the silver screen. It can be become less about the science and more about seeing Jamie and Adam get their geek on when they're busting Star Wars or Indiana Jones myths, but I still find it fun and entertaining, personally. If Mythbusters continue to make it fun and entertaining, then it's done its job successfully. Besides, the shift in direction does take full advantage of their collective experience as special effects guys working in the television and film industries.
As far as the "hip direction" goes, I don't see that happening at all except for the opening, which does seem slicker and better produced. But everything else about the show remains the same goofy Jamie and Adam dynamic we've come to know and love for years, sans the trio (Grant, Kari, and Tori), of course, but that was most likely out their hands (with the Discovery Channel suits calling the shots with the changes in casting).
