 | | | Knock off downsized Masterpiece Megatron | | Posted on 10-18-2009 at 06:24 AM by Sol Fury | A selection of images have been posted on ACToys of a knock off downsized Masterpiece Megatron. Like the previously seen knock off Masterpiece Optimus Prime / Convoy downsize, this is a version about 2/3 the size of the official version, although the Fusion Cannon has been reduced even further to be more in scale with Megatron.
Please bear in mind that this is not an official Hasbro / Takara-Tomy Transformers product and is not endorsed by them in any way.

Toxicon: They said it couldn't be done....
Do want, but I bet it'll cost more than an actual Masterpiece Megs.
Mechafire:
I'd take that over the full sized MP Megs. Toxicon: Quote:

Now they're just taking the mickey. I see a Hasbro legal crackdown coming, aimed at all the fan kit makers because of these jokers.
Skywave:
Do want! As long as the quality is there, I'll buy it!

Ratchet2007:
New figures of pre-existing characters I can handle (Like Defender), but this is just plain down right bad
I really want to see Hasbro crack down on this, isn't it Copyright or something ?

shroobmaster:
So it's basically a smaller version of a figure that I hate and not even because of the size?
Pass.

If this can be released without ,
A) Feeling the wrath of the Hasbro/Takara legal department
B) The balance & fragility problems that plague the official one
Then I'll buy one. If the official license holders can't do the job right and someone like iGear can then I have no qualms about going the unofficial route.
ORIO:
They took one of the most difficult Transformers to transform and made it smaller?
No thanks, I'm stressed out enough as it is
Robogeek28:
Hooo boy, here we go again. stevej:
If all the MPs had been the same size to start with this would be a none-issue. As is, this and mini-MP Prime will be mine. :-)
In terms of copyright this isn't an Hasbro mould, it's a Takara one. Maybe in Japan things are a bit more chilled.
Oh, and notice that the scope looks smaller on this in relation to the figure. A shame as I liked the BFG appeal on the MP.
Blackout:
Too bad it's not all die cast.....
crasis:
Did they decrease the size/scale of his fusion cannon/scope??? If so, that puts this in "possibly buy" territory for me. I HATE Masterpiece Megatron, mostly for his frustrating transformation, but also for his way too big cannon... but If this little guy fixes that scale problem, I may be tempted to bite. I dunno. I still don't like supporting blatant KOs, though. And I would probably never attempt to transform this figure, since there's no way a smaller version would be less fragile than the POS standing on my shelf now.

Draven:
I'd buy it if:
-it costs proportionately less than MP Megatron did. Which I doubt. I expect it to cost more because "it's a limited run collectible toy by fans for fans blah blah blah".
-it actually ever gets as far as production. Which I doubt. These companies are just BEGGING to get shut down by doing things like this.
miscreant:
Perhaps i'm the only person who sees a slight irony in Hasbro attempting to stop reproduction of a figure they themselves wouldn't dare release.
SpencimusPrime:
I see the copyright infringement version of a drug bust coming.
Boo:
I would like that very much. But, it'll probably be way too fragile and way too expensive. BAH!
Deceptigtar:
man thats nice. they should do it in diaclone colors, be soooooo nice!

It's a shame that Takara made such gigantic versions of Optimus and Megatron. Not only is this Megatron and the other KO Optimus more in scale with the other Masterpieces, they are more in scale with the classics as well.
smkspy:
That is nice, but really wish they would get out the mini-MP Prime before showing off their next work. Though this seems to be their trade mark, show a bunch of awesome photos but never release anything.

Slimaximus:
easy pass, the Mini MP awesome, this lame, the mold is meh, and henkei megs looks fine with the classics
Red leader:
sigh.................say what you like about FansProject but at least there stuff is original - these guys are just taking the piss.

Xenon:
I'd rather see someone trying to re-create the original Megatron toy that was never released. That said, this might actually turn out to be a better toy than the official full size version.

knoted:
Heh, looks better than the big one. I'd take one.
ghowildseven:
Maybe it won't rush or break as much Like the normal size of the alt mode.
cuters:
nice if this see,s the light of day i,ll have a new meg,s for my classic,s collection and prime too of course
Lucs:
Looks pretty good. Wonder who they'll be selling it through. Would look very nice in a classics display. I think it's kind of good that they shrunk the arm cannon/scope more than the figure but in gun mode the scope looks too small.
David Hingtgen:
The proportionately-smaller cannon is a huge improvement IMHO. The ridiculous-looking cannon is about the #1 reason I haven't bought the real MP version---it just looks stupid with it on his arm. (though it looks even worse with no cannon at all--you just can't win)
Tekkaman Blade:
If I get the optimus, I'll get this.
amd098:
i might get this, not sure
i dont like the headsculpt on mp megs
Polenicus:
Need to rant... Rising...!
Okay, fine, let's do this.
I want to start off by saying that companies like Fansproject, Unicron.com, BTS etc are my HEROES. They fill a niche Hasbro can't, and they put real thought, effort, engineering and quality into their products. I own Battle Rollar, the BTS trailer, and damn near everything FansProject has ever produced.
And then there's iGear, and those like them.
iGear has good ideas. They have a nifty upgrade kit for City Commander which might eventually see the light of day. Maybe someday. Their Autoscout is considered pretty good, and is definitely imaginative packaged, and their Ark playset would be an absolute triumph if they ever produce it.
But right next to all these interesting ideas and unique engineering, they BLATANTLY knock off HasTak. First their MP Optimus trailer, which was bad, but might have slipped under the radar. Then with their 'Shark Sentry', which is a scaled-down knock off of the G1 Sharkticon.
Apparently, Hasbro not sending their lawyers in to murder them immediately was an invitation.
So, they knocked off another Transformer directly, but not just any Transformer. Masterpiece Optimus Prime. A mold that represents an enormous investment in engineering and development. A Mold that has more or less come to represent Hasbro's most iconic property. Optimus Prime is their Mickey Mouse, their Mario. When people draw Optimus Prime these days, more often than not, they draw Masterpiece Optimus.
And they even had the bearings to leave the Autobot symbol on the mold.
Now they're going after Megatron... not as valuable a mold as it can't be released in the US, but still representing a huge amount of time, effort, design and work.
This is theft of someone else's hard work here. Blatant and outright.
It isn't okay. And what's worse, HasTak is legally required to pursue something like this legally. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe copyright law requires that if someone infringes your copyright, you MUST pursue the matter legally, or you risk losing your copyright.
Stuff like FansProject lives in a grey area, because they do unique designs that don't have any direct HasTak copyrights on them, and/or are accessories made for HasTak products.
But iGear threatens to bring the whole thing down, not just on their heads, but everyone's. If HasTak goes to litigation, chances are ALL the garage kit producers will get cease and desist orders.
And I don't think getting a scaled down MP Prime knockoff is worth losing out on things like Defender, or Protector, or all the wonderful accessories.
OMEGAPRIME1983:
I'll buy that! These mini mastpieces I think will be good on the G1 shelves.

Bgrngod:
Whoa.. is this the same "Partner Group" that is doing mini-MP Prime through iGear? Looks pretty darn good so far. I'm wondering if it's 100% shrunk down pieces or if they are doing any custom bits for this one. Fantastic if they get the scale to match a P38 perfectly. I doubt it will come with an orange plug!
Breaking IP laws AND gun laws at the same time. Interesting stuff
And, to point it out again, Has/Tak can't do squat about preventing the production of these. This company is most likely in China and would be selling them off their China based website. All that Has/Tak can do is tell the online non-China retailers to not sell them or risk loosing their access to Has/Tak products. That isn't much of a threat to a company in China that isn't selling Has/Tak products to begin with.
If not China, then somewhere else that doesn't give a darn about enforcing international copyright laws.

No thanks...PASS
Not only do I detest KO's but I prefer my "Official" TAKARA Version.
Unlike all the naysayers and complainers I love my MP_04 and wouldn't replace it's oversized awesomeness for the world.

ryan.j:
given the flack MP megs has caught, it's surprising that they'd bother to just make an undersized version rather than produce a better version, or at least done something a little different - something hasbro would never do - that is the niche for these fan projects.
then again, under/over sized versions of existing molds have been churned out by counterfeiters for years so it's hardly surprising KO merchants like iGear are doing the same for the HG collectables.
the easy answer is to not buy their stuff and they'll stop making it.
