 | | | | | | | Hasbro Q&A Round 1 - Version TFW2005 | | Posted on 03-10-2009 at 10:31 PM by Kickback | It's March! That can only mean one thing - no, not Easter, not Spring, but the answers to the first round of 2009's Q&A with Hasbro! Yaaayyy!!!!
Due to an issue with one of our questions, TFW2005 only has two questions that received answers this round. We are told that our third question will be answered as soon as possible, and if/when that does, we will bring it to you as soon as we get it.
But on to the kibbles and bits. 1) Any plans for a 10th Anniversary line to celebrate ROBOTS IN DISGUISE, either repaints or reissues using ROBOTS IN DISGUISE figures? There is not a plan to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of RID at this time due to the many big events that are planned for the brand over the next few years. With that said, we will continue to look for opportunities to reoffer any great product lines from our past.
2) Will we see American versions of the Masterpiece Grimlock, Thundercracker, and Skywarp figures? We feel that the Masterpiece Series is a great offering that captures the timelessness of our brand for all fans of Transformers. As we continue to move forward with the brand we will look for the right opportunities to release these figures. With that said, I would certainly keep your eyes on the look out for one of these in the near future!
So there you go! It looks like something Masterpiece-y (yes, Masterpiece-y) may be in our future. But no love for the Transformers line that reintroduced realistic vehicles to the brand. You can discuss our questions and answers, along with all the other question and answers from other sites, by clicking the discuss link.

So were TFW2005's answers "lost" again?
Anyhow, no Universe Red Alert. That's not surprising, but now I have to order the Henkei.
lord ginrai:
Hmm, movie premiums aren't out of the question. I really wouldn't be surprised to see at least Prime and Bumblebee get a premium treatment again.
Also I'm siked about the idea that we'll be seeing a Wheeljack figure again sooner or later!
Optimus Prime:
Awesome that Animated toys will continue throughout 2009. Season 3 has too many cool characters to not get more toys out.
Toxicon:
Season 3 character toys throughout 2009? Sounds good.
muffinhunter:
I don't get the Animated non-answers. Is it so hard to just admit the show is ending? And new toys throughout 2009 is vague enough to mean anything.
Tash: Quote: |

| We don't even know if it's ending. Hell, Hasbro probably doesn't even know if it's ending. It's really not uncommon to wait for the previous season to finish before greenlighting another.
Torque:
cool! though why did they ask the same question twice-and does anyone know what our questions were?
GogDog:
Ugh. I wish Hasbro would spill the beans already.
netkid:
Not surprised about Premiums.
Looking at Hasbro as a Business, if making Premium Editions means making more money from figure molds which have already been paid for then by all means they will do it than wasting more money on an entirely new figure and all the costly processes needed to produce it.
Sign me up for Premium Leader Prime and anything else Premium! I love em!

TFWiki has a list of all the Q&As up so far: Hasbro Q & A - Transformers Wiki
From a product perspective, the news is that NONE of the following have a planned release, at least this year:
-Mighty Muggs after Grimlock & Starscream
-The remaining Universe Robot Heroes (Primal/Jetstorm, Victory Sabre/Desaras, Ricochet/Predaking, etc.)
-Movie Backtrack, Gunbarrel, and Reverb
Booooooooo.
At least some good news about Animated, though.

2) Before the recession we were told Universe 2.0 would be put on hiatus, what are the chances of it returning in the future at this point?
Currently, we have announced all items and characters that are to be released within the Universe line in 2009. While some retailers might have a limited offering of Universe items, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will the main product offering in 2009.
| That's not even what they asked...
Soundwave84:
yeah this is really not exciting news though it is nice that Animated is getting new product but i dont collect them any more

Pimpimus Prime:
Damn.. getting answers from these guys is like pulling teeth. The Star Wars team will at least drop a few hints.
artiepants:
hmmmm. given the awkward time frame (really to early to talk about much more than what they showed at toyfair) i'm not surprised at most of the non-answers.
i'm gonna go ahead and predict Wheeljack for wave 1 of Universe/Classics 3.0 post movie ~ that was an unusually straightforward answer for them EDIT: oh, crap, unless they were talking about an Animated version
The Drift answer is pretty vague too, but definitely seems to skew more in the "probably happening" than "not happening" vein...
SoundFire Prime:
It's good to know that Season 3 characters will be getting toys. The only question is who, and how many?
Spiderus Prime:
Wow so bring on are qustions.

Acid Wing:
Universe Wheeljack, MP Grimlock, and more Animated season 3 releases sound good to me.
*patiently waits for TFW's answers to be released*
AnimatedFan:
Hasbro's just dodging questions all over the place. They wouldn't elaborate on Animated beyond there being some season 3 toys, and Drift is either getting a toy, or isn't...
All in all, this was pretty unimpressive, and they could at least grow a pair of balls and just flat out tell us what they're really thinking. At this point, they're not really going to alienate anyone else, they've already done that.
I wonder if Animated Arcee might be scrapped in favor of Season 3 figures... though I doubt they'd be that stupid, the fan uprising alone would would bring them a world of shit.

*patiently waits for TFW's answers to be released* | Guys, they aren't even talking about Universe continuing until at LEAST 2010, why would they be talking about a Universe Wheeljack "in the near future"? It's Animated Wheeljack. The question is whether they're talking about a bonafide toy or just his appearance in Season 3.
Acid Wing:
Woops!
Thanks for clearing that up. Guess my wishful thinking for Universe went overboard (partly from the question stem).
Animated Wheeljack it is then...for now until 2010. shroobmaster:
Just more dodgy stuff.
At least we know there's more cool toys other than Leader Optimus!
Sideswipe80:
Whatever happened to Robot Hero Prowl and Predaking and Laserbeak?

Is there any chance that you can elaborate what these two figures are, or if one of them will be Red Alert, similar to Takara Tomy's release schedule with Henkei? Hasbro: Unfortunately, the press release prior to Toy Fair regarding Universe Deluxe was incorrect. For 2009, there will only be 8 Deluxe figures (Cheetor, Cyclonus, Hound, Starscream, Dinobot, Smokescreen, Hot Shot and Ratchet). | So no Universe Red Alert, then? Eh, might as well get the Henkei version, then. No big loss.
Other than the fact Universe is going on hiatus. Quote: |

However, I don't like how they say that they "cannot speak to any rumors regarding the animated series". That's pretty much Hasbro covering their asses, when they really wanna say, "Yes, season 3 is the last season, you morons. Quit crying." Quote: |

It also seems like a tease getting Ravage with Hound without a Soundwave out there! A1) These are three of the names that keep poping up on our radar. Soundwave is difficult because we can’t make his alt mode a cassette player - kids today just wouldn’t even know what that is. I can tell you that he is being discussed for future release but nothing is definite at this time. Jazz is a favorite as well but nothing has been discussed as of now. Wheeljack on the other hand, has been discussed more in-depth and we’re excited about prospects for his appearance in the near future. | So, no plans for a Jazz toy, yet there's a chance we may get a Universe Wheeljack? *Sigh* Also, I find it somewhat hard to believe that they can't make a Classics Soundwave because kids don't know what a cassette player is. Just make him a tape recorder; some people still use those. If not, then make him a truck that can fit Ravage inside.
Sharktibolt:
Animated Wheeljack makes me happy.
I don't understand how they can say 'kids today just wouldn’t even know what that is' about Soundwave's alt mode when that didn't stop them before.

Also I'm siked about the idea that we'll be seeing a Wheeljack figure again sooner or later! | I really hope they do one for Universe eventually, but they must be talking about TFA, which is totally cool. At first I actually thought they meant something on the ROTF line and I started thinking about that Saab Aero X that people were suggesting. Which would also be cool. Quote:

Seemed to be quite a few non-answers, but it's nice to hear there will be season 3 toys, even if we sort of knew that already.
Maybe they think it'd be bad for business if they admit the show is finished. Stores would reduce their orders or something. Maybe they think it's good for business to make fans think it's future is in jeopardy when it's really not. Maybe they're still in negotiations with Cartoon Network to continue it. Maybe Walmart are meddling with it. Maybe they just haven't decided. Wish I knew.

The RH question was actually asked specifically by yours truly on the Collectors' Club forum Q&A, and that was the response. No more Universe Robot Heroes for at least 2009.
And I don't know why. They don't say.
Eric:
Wait, they're canceling the rest of the Universe Robot Heroes? WHY? We've seen in-package shots of them, so I assumed that they were ready to go any time now. That's just downright stupid to cancel them. Further proof that Hasbro cares only for ROTF. They just toss Animated and Universe to the side like yesterday's newspaper.

| Then make him a surveillance van or humvee then.. as long as it's boxy, blue and looks cool it's better than no update at all.

And I don't know why. They don't say. | Between this and Animated being on it's last season, I'm really annoyed with Hasbro. At least I can get a movie version of Sideswipe for Robot Heroes.
ginrai:
No New classics.. = No money from my pocket..
So whatever.. Guess I will just import Red Alert from japan..
Bumblethumper:
looking at the quality of the paint apps in that high res leader Optimus gallery, I'm not surprised they intend to do premiums. Beastbot X:
Alright, I'm not totally sure if I'm allowed to do this-- if I'm not, than I apologize and feel free to delete this, mods-- but since a lot of people can't get into the Collectors' Club forum to see the Q&A, I'm posting it here, so you can see the wording:
-------------------------------
1) Are the last two waves of TF Universe Robot Heroes being released in
the US? (RID Megs/Prime, Victory Sabre/Dezaras, Tigatron/Inferno, Prowl/
Laserbeak, Beast Machines Primal/Jetstorm) We've had pictures of them
for a while now, but no further indications that they are going to be
released, such as online stores putting them up for pre-order. Unfortunately, there are no current plans to release these figures in
2009 or in the near future within the U.S. However, rest assured that we
will continue to look for creative opportunities where we can deliver these
figures to all of our fans.
2) A lot of signs seem to be pointing towards the end of Animated. What
brought about the demise of such a great series? Were sales not high
enough, TV ratings too low, or did other, more internal factors play a
major part in the decision? If indeed it is ending, do you have any
plans yet for a new TV show or continuing the Animated toy line past 2009? While we cannot speak to any rumors regarding the Animated series at this
time, we did want to mention how excited we are for the launch of Season 3!
We feel that this new season just builds on the success of the previous two
seasons.
3) Will we see any homages to Machines Wars, Beast Machines or Energon
in the main Universe line or the Legends line?(because Legends-class
Beast Wars/Beast Machines characters would be the perfect scale for
Autobot and Decepticons!) Anything is possible. Transformers has such a great bank of characters
with great back stories, names, colors and alt modes. Almost any character
and era is fair game - you never know what we will be tapping into moving
forward. If there is excitement and enthusiam for the figures, we do our
best to make them available.
------------------
megatronkicksas:
Am I the only one who noticed this? They said the Universe Classics 2.0 was done and the main line would be ROTF. So does that mean we'll see more classic character in ROTF like the combiners?

Wouldn't that mean all the G1 RH figures we know about are coming? Somebody: Quote:

Given the complexity of the CGI bots, and the fact that triple-changers usually ARE compromised in at least one mode (and/or kibble-tastic in others), I can believe it...

It wouldn't really surprise me if Universe repaints like Red Alert get dumped into ROTF.

So I'd assume "what has been announced for 2009" only means the 1 wave that is out currently-- Snarl/Sharkticon, Perceptor/Hardshell, Cheetor/Tankor.
