Hasbro Launches new Transformers Survey

Hasbro Launches new Transformers Survey 200px-Deathbychocolate
Hasbro has put up a survey aimed at us, the collectors, on their website. The short questionnaire includes 23 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete and looks at topics such as which lines you collect, which non-toy products you collect and which of the "non Transforming" items you collect. We the staff of TFW2005 encourage everyone to take the survey and make your opinions heard!

Click here to take the survey.

Ash from Carolina:
Got to agree that it's insane to leave out the female collectors because there are women out there who are way more hardcore about the hobby than I could ever hope to be. I mean money is money ain't it or do girl cooties not make money not count any more.

Also rather odd the way they want to keep dumping Universe in with Classics since they are really different lines.

Might have also been nice to have had some questions on why you don't collect some things instead of just how interested you are in the new lines that don't transform. No matter how G1 you repaint say a movie toy it's just going to still hold zero interst for me so maybe it would be nice for them to know just to give me a Classic Jazz instead.

Oh well I took it and since I don't collect the movie toys and I don't collect the Animated toys maybe that will give some bean counter at Hasbro an excuse to push to keep the Classics on hold thing short. Ha ha without some Classics stuff around I might not even max out to the $200 a year you could spend
ams:
It's no fun to feel left out of something like this, but it's pretty darn extreme to see it as some kind of age or sex discrimination.

We don't know precisely what they were trying to measure, or for what purpose. I've designed a number of corporate surveys in my own HR career, and there are times where you only wish to target a certain group... for example, what if I wanted to get the insight of only those employees who have been with the organization for less than two years, to find out about how they perceived their opportunities for growth during that time... I don't want anyone outside that specific group to complete it, because they're not relevant to the data I'm looking for. Period. It's not a matter of "just letting anyone do it".

And while it sounds unpleasant to say, perhaps the number of female TF collectors is seen as being statistically unimportant to measure, just like the number of people who spend over $200 a year on TFs is probably statistically unimportant to measure. If the collector base makes up 10-15 percent of the market, what does the FEMALE collecting fanbase make up? Maybe half a percent, tops? Perhaps that's not seen as being essential to this survey. It's not a slam, just a reality.

I don't like seeing perople excluded from something fun, but I don't think HASBRO=JERK on this one. This is them gauging their business, not a fun activity for collectors.
Kimmer:
they forgot some questions:

1.does the movie line suck ass? yes
2.are u pissed that universe and animated will be on hold because of the pitiful movie line? uh,yes
3.should we just scrap the movie line for more universe and animated? hell yes!
4.do you miss alternators? YES
5.are you gonna want to kill yourself everytime you walk into the toy aisle and see movie garbage clogging the shelves yet again for the next year or so?
Nagaoka:
Dangit Hasbro -_- are you really that clueless? If you don't want the opinions of female collectors, then at the very least take our surveys and secretly throw them out the window. Don't shove it in our faces that our opinions don't matter here. Same with the age thing. I mean...really.

Plus, all it'll do is screw up the results. If we could input your correct age and gender and be able to take the survey, we would do so. However, to get our opinions heard we'll lie about those things and the results you'll get won't properly represent any demographic (you'll find fewer results from the barred demographics, and the answers you do get will be mixed with the opinions of those demographics...no one wins).

Thanks Hasbro.

I believe Animated will still be going on while the movie toys are selling.
Fairlady_Z:
Rejected me too just like all the other women. Sexist survey. So I tried again to take it and say I was a guy only to get a pop up saying. "We're sorry, this site is currently undergoing maintenence." You want to do some good maintenence Hasbro - change your survey to include us!

And only $200? Seriously? Anyone who paid to get exclusives at BotCon has already spent more than that in a year. Get a clue Hasbro.
unicron's blues:
i took the survey as well. I also think its screwed up that they don't want to get as accurate of results as possible by excluding teens and women, not to mention the only up to $200 range of toys a year, sounds like some pretty weak thinking on Hasbro's part.

Ha ha, yea I would have liked a question about how do you feel about having to sit on the side lines because you don't collect movie or Animated figures.

On the bright side at least the Classics collectors have the girls to keep them company because Hasbro didn't think they mattered either
Scantron:
Took the survey as well. Mentioned a few times that I'd like to see them bring in some more new/original characters and cut down on the G1 homages/rehashes.
influence82:
The questions were interesting, very marketing oriented. I cannot believe that they referenced this website and a few other community fansites. I hope that Hasbro takes action upon the results and makes a few changes reflecting their products and marketing strategies soon.
Fairlady_Z:
Okay just said I was a guy this time and was able to take the survey. Don't like lying, but I don't think that doing that does any harm, I'm just as much a plastic crack addict as any guy. It won't let you take the survey more than once which is a nice safety precaustion but if you got rejected in the first two questions you can take it again, just adjust your age to over 18 and say you are male and you should have no problems.
tony77tony77:
like it or not the movie line are their big money makers. I HATE the movie line but people at hasbro need to eat to.
Bruticus82:
I've heard a rumour females can now get past question #2. Some of you might want to try again, make sure you're counted so they know how many female fans there really are.
shroobmaster:
I wonder if they'll ask "What's your favorite pink figure?" to girls.
brr-icy:
i just did it, read the posts and tried again as a female, it works now, maybe all the females trying to do the survey clicked it into their heads that you guys are out there, +1 point for hasbro, but doesn't cover the fact that theycut you out in the first place

Friend of mine got the apology email, too. At least they acted fairly fast to correct the outrage. I couldn't even get to the site yesterday, so I'm not going to bother.

Superquad7:
Hasbro hates the fandom
Doug:
I just filled out the questionaire.
Digilaut:
Some interesting questions. Answered!
Ash from Carolina:
Well Hasbro likes girls who like robots again. Now if we could just get them to like the Classics collectors again.
Dinobot Nuva:
Woo, they got their act in gear, teens are now free to take it too!
DN
Peanut04:
Glad to hear they are no longer restricting anyone from taking the survey now, but honestly it never should have happened to begin with.
influence82:
Regarding the survey, Hasbro probably hired a third party marketing research firm to do this survey who probably does not know jack about Transformers. You cannot really blame Hasbro except for making a typical corporate decision.
ams:
Hasbro: We're getting a lot of complaints that kids and women can't fill out the survey.

Survey Company: But you said those were insignificant demographics and you didn't want them captured in the data.

Hasbro: Can you just turn it on for them, let them fill it out, then throw out their data during the reporting process?

Survey Company: Sure, no problem!
