Hasbro Launches new Transformers Survey

Hasbro Launches new Transformers Survey 200px-Deathbychocolate
Hasbro has put up a survey aimed at us, the collectors, on their website. The short questionnaire includes 23 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete and looks at topics such as which lines you collect, which non-toy products you collect and which of the "non Transforming" items you collect. We the staff of TFW2005 encourage everyone to take the survey and make your opinions heard!

Click here to take the survey.

Liege Prime:
Yeah, I take surveys a lot, and often times after a few questions it ends early just because I don't fit the criteria. Oviously this survey is for adult males, which is what they were looking for at this time. Hasbro is hardly the only company that does that and it's widely accepted.
StarFire_MK2:
Q's 23 and 24 are not well thought out at all. There is no option for "Never", making me wonder if the marketing department isn't trying to get a few more bucks for the website

I was kinda shocked by how much I spent this year too

Very interesting. Hope they take that to heart.

That may be but then why have those options. I'm sure they can have filters on their end that only shows the data they are looking for at that time while still giving others their voice.

I happen to fall within their paramiters this time but if I were female or too young and took the survey I would feel discarded by it cutting off. It's kinda like oh your a girl I don't care what you think, that is wrong and hurtful to those spending money on the product and that feeling adds fuel to the "Hasbro doesn't care" crowd. Their product covers many ages and genders and the survey should reflect that.
planetjacker:
Also what are "power bots"?
Ktulu:
Ignoring drama stuff, I filled it out, yay?
paco608:
it just asked me how old am i and that was it...
Grimlocka go-go:
Done and done. Yeah $200 is a drop in the bucket. And even I'm pissed about the exclusion of our fellow female fans. Doesn't make much sense to me.
Blackarachnia:
I guess because of my age and gender, my opinion didn't matter. I was then taken to the Hasbro TF page. Thanks!!!!
Mechafire:
Why do I buy more than one?

Because most of the first ones I buy have shitty quality control.
Ktulu:
I guess maybe they should have specified their demographic to begin with. Would that have been less offensive to anyone not in the requirements?

I would had prefer that over been shunned and seeing what others were asked, but not I....
Johnator:
Great survey now I hope they actually listen to it.
PrimulArchangel:
could have gave us a coupon like 5$ off an HTS order lol.. Even the mall survey people give you a gift after you finish lol
Retroqqq:
they might be listening, their front page is most Animated.
ShadowStitch:
Hmm...I must have missed the checkboxes where they ask me

"What do you think of the new, shitty QC policies we have adopted?"

and

"Would you say you return LESS or MORE figures to the store lately?"
0JazzMeister0:
Guess Hasbro doesn't realize us females happen to blow a crapload of money on their TF toys as well.

Way to be sexist, Hasbro, thanks
Soundwave84:
Took the survey loved it wow sucks that they arent letting Females take it. Hope this gives them an idea how many of us are out there that collect.
rick83:
just filled it out and I realized why im so poor , but its all good baby. Yea i also put alternators in there
SmokescreenGT:
Good survey. Didn't take me long to fill it out. Maybe Hasbro will actually listen.
Weirdwolf:
I just happily submitted my responses!
Dinobot Nuva:
For those who say that Hasbro was looking for a target demographic, it would not be THAT hard to sort the results by age at the end of the survey (OR gender for that matter), they have surveys all the time that include ALL age groups and they probably filter the results to different demographics after the fact. Listening to the other potential answers to the survey could've proved just as helpful to some sort of demographic related research, like for instance "holy shit teenagers and females are actually collecting this stuff too...".
DN
ranoobu:
Done!
Railguard:
Hey that was pretty cool, I hope they do more of that in the future.
dark69:
i did it
SarahMobius:
WTF. I put in my age, and that I'm a chick, and that's it. Joy, Hasbro doesn't give a shit what I think.
Aussie James:
All filled out! Had to remember that Australia is in the Asia-Pacific region (it's not something you think of every day).
Anodythe:
Damn thing threw me off. I think Hasbro needs to remember that not only am I a collector, but I have the money, not my kids.

oh nuts!!!!

i only listed the Crossovers on the "what lines do you collect" question!

dammit!

i gotta take it again now...

edit: oh man, i can't take it again... least not on this computer. bummer.

sorry Alternator fans.

still, interesting questions, i was surprised by the listing of the fan sites.
Hiro Prime:
Interesting survey. Tho I think the person who put it together doesn't really know the market. Everyone who went to Botcon this year spent more than $200.00 just to go to the show. Hell, I spend more than $200.00 a month on TF's.
Chaos Prime:
What kind of a survey was that? It asked me one lousy question, and then there weren't any other questions. Weird.
Robogeek28:
Filled it out.
Nightrain:

Q6 What prompted you to begin collecting Transformers toys?
I honestly don't remember. My earliest memories point me to watching the show and buying toys in 1986. I do remember renting More Than Meets The Eye and Ultimate Doom videos, but I don't know if that was before or after I bought toys.
Kusanagi:
Spent more than $200 just this month...
Slythe:
That was a short survey.

I don't know how female opinions could somehow skew the product targeting. Doesn't everyone want more pink transformers with butterfly wings?

The only places to advertise that are male-only that I can think of are the washrooms with the figure not wearing a dress.
iDarkDesign:
I never go to hasbro.com ... but that wasn't an option!

iDD
Alex5:
Good that they have done a survey like this, although with all the discounted responses from certain age groups and females, it is easy to be cynical and take the view that this has been set up to prove a point rather than research something.

The obvious oversight is the $200 per-year max spend when a couple of questions earlier they ask if you typically collect doubles, particularly when they survey seems aimed at collectors who were buying or being given TFs the first time round in the eighties. I may be wrong but I would guess the average 'collector' on here is spending $100-200 a month - be honest - many spend a lot more. Just look at all the serious collections people post up here... many thousands of $. I would have expected $100-200 per month as the high option, seeing as this was aimed at adult male collectors, not children or parents that buy toys for children.
Would Hasbro be surprised at the amount people are prepared to spend on vintage G1? I am sure they are fully aware of the market value, perhaps not so much the percentage of their disposable income people will part with over the course of a year on sweet plastic crack.

Really, when it all gets fed into a computer and spat out as graphs, you have to wonder why the survey creator is ignoring so much potentially interesting data.
aussiehippy:
I filled it in.

Surprised to find out they're (apparently) not interested in the opinions of late-teen aged people or females. I reckon they make up a reasonable percentage of the membership of this site at least.

Also surprised that the max amount to spend on TFs annually is $200.

Lol, I spend more than that just on ebay every month, not counting what new product I buy in stores. And I don't even buy that much or have a massive collection, heh.

lol

I feel kinda insulted that it cut off when I put in I was a girl. So I went back and said I was a guy and filled it all in. >=D

Stupid sexist toy company...
Gingerchris:
Filled.
I would've liked something more in-depth though. We're a complicated bunch sometimes and a hundred questions would've been far more revealing. I collect one of every mold, but I didn't click on collecting the 'entire' line because I don't buy the repaints. Also, the list of stores to buy TF from really didn't take into account UK (or other countries) collectors.
I'd like something where you could list five things you like most about TF products and five things you don't. That would probably be very revealing in terms of the mind of a collector and what drives their purchases.
TRANS+CRAZY:
I took it, but when it asked if I was male or female, I select female and I end up getting a "Thanks for taking our survey." Damn jerks... what's wrong with female collectors?
Xhairs:
all done. wow thats sexiest .
NormanB:
LOL Hasbro hates girls.

To add salt to the wound, they should have directed you to the My Little Pony website
Fit For natalie:
Hasbro apparently doesn't want girl germs.

Luckily, they didn't... otherwise, I'd have chewed their ass. I haven't touched My Little Ponies since I was a little girl.
Bruticus82:
All the ladies and those under 18 should e-mail Hasbro and complain. I mean really, what would it have cost them to let everyone do the full survey? The extra data won't kill them.
Starscream2008:
Filled it out just now. Very interesting. $200 per year? I just spent twice that in one WEEK on some purchases. lol.
Blackarachnia:
I took my emailed complaint to Hasbro.
VAwitch:
I just called them, after being spit out of the survey last night for having boobs. After 25 yrs of supporting their products, spending $900 alone in the past 3 yrs, and intro'ing TFs to my son... I am NOT a happy consumer right now.
Fosterlager:
Well, they will have tabulations on how many minors and women attempted to take the survey, so it can be tailored for next time. Poor work on the part of their market research team. Plus, as VAwitch said, what about moms that collect and get their own children collecting too?

There were plenty of women and minors at Botcon too, and their attendee surveys aren't age or gender specific. Hasbro's people in attendance already know the collectors' community isn't all adult men.
