Hasbro Launches new Transformers Survey 200px-Deathbychocolate
Hasbro has put up a survey aimed at us, the collectors, on their website. The short questionnaire includes 23 questions, takes about ten minutes to complete and looks at topics such as which lines you collect, which non-toy products you collect and which of the "non Transforming" items you collect. We the staff of TFW2005 encourage everyone to take the survey and make your opinions heard!

Click here to take the survey.

Detour:
Hasbro's got a new survey for collectors up on their Transformers website:

Transformers Collector Snap Survey

Some interesting questions there.
General Tekno:
A very interesting survey indeed. Filled it out.
Omnius:
Filled it out. Interesting questions there, I expect Hasbro will take the feedback into account for future lines.
Tekkaman Blade:
I mentioned Alternators several times. If enough of us do it maybe they will take the hint.
Switchblade:
Filled it out. It somewhat surprised me when I actually stopped to think about how much a year I spend on TFs.
nemesisconvoy:
I filled it out.......I hope to see Alternators 2.0
MushroomPrime:
I had to lie about my age, WTF?

It won't let you go farther if you're under 18 methinks
Omega Charge:
Yeah, I think it's more of a survey for adult collectors then.
Fit For natalie:
That was quite a good survey. I enjoy surveys, for some reason.
General Tekno:
Though I'm surprised their maximum for "how much do you spend" was 200$ and up.

I'm sure a lot of people on this site spend more than that annually easily.
megatronkicksas:
Um.... this is old I took the survey loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng ago.
Banshee:

Yeah, I was surprised about that too.

Good survey. Hope it helps speed up the HTS Canadian shipping thing.
ams:
That was a very comprehensive survey. Very interesting indeed.

Every time the fanbase gets inflated in its opinion of how influential and important it is to the brand, I think of the fact that the max dollars spent on these surveys is usually "$200 or more", which is laughable to most of us.

I think it shows that the number of people who spend $200 or more a year on Transformers is such a minority, it's just not statistically important to measure... let alone those of us who spend thousands a year.
Megatronwp38:
Yeah that was pretty cool actually. A nice survey for older fans. I def spend WAY more then $200 a year on transformers...Gosh I spent more then that In November on henkei Seekers and Universe toys!
Silent_Magnus:
Pretty cool that they had a list of fan-sites.
Peanut04:
Pretty good survey. Thanks for the heads up on it.

I filled it out and yes, I was surprised $200 was the highest listed amount. Apprently whoever made this survery doesn't know too well how much a collector really spends in a year. I was expecting maybe "$1000 or above" to be the last choice.

seriously, if you buy 4 leaders you are pretty much at $200.00

You know, that may actually be a bigger problem then it seems. This may sound ignorant to those who "know everything about Hasbro and their decision making process", but assuming that on a multiple choice questionaire like this, the choices are what you think is the 4 or 5 most common. So, if they think that around 75% of collectors buy LESS then $200 a year, then maybe their popular estimation of "collectors only make up 10% of our market" is way off. Afterall, I have no idea how they know that when I buy Univers Prowl that I am a collector. Or it could just be that the survery maker didn't really know all too well what to put. I don't know.
Optimus62:
Cool survey. Filled it out.

Spend way more than $200
llamatron:
The $200 a year max is completely stupid for a collector's survey. Especially when they have a question asking how often you buy TFs and the options range from a few a year to a few a week which does not correspond to $0 - $200 per year.
Fosterlager:
I blew more than that on Guardian Robot alone!
Dinobot Nuva:
Its not working for me, I get to answer question 1 and its like "THANKS FOR DOING THAT, SUBMIT?"

EDIT- I smell bullshit, I entered older ages (not the 16-17) and the survey will let me move on, do I not count just because I'm seventeen or what? C'mon.
DN
ILoveDinobot:
SEXIST!! It asked if I was male or female and then said "thanks for your help!" it only let me answer 2 questions!
caitlindevi:
Hasbro you bunch of sexist bastards!

Q2 are you male or female?

Enter female - thank you for your help

enter male - oh here let me ask you more questions

What the hell? Yeah coz girls can't like transformers at all. We can't have had any transformers when we we younger we must have all been about barbie and my little sodding pony.

I'm Female, I'm 32, I had transformers when they first came out

apparently we're not worth of hasbro asking....and I've been sculpting in the toy indusrty for 10 years...my opinion must be worthless because I'm a girl.
artiepants:
That is lame, but maybe they are looking for specific information from a specific demographic?
Autobotic9:
I had to lie too. I am a teen, but I consider myself to be just as much of a collector as the older folk. Should've included everybody, but I provided my insight. Can't believe I spend over 200 bucks a year :O
Dinobot Nuva:
Just the man keeping me and all my fellow peeps down.
DN
Backscatter:
Well, being a long time male collector, I didn't have to lie. I like the survey, but I wish they made a contest/sweeps out of it. Anyway, I agree the survey sux for female TF fans. Sorry Hasbro treated you gals that way.
yami4ct:
I also had to lie about my age, but I'm 18 in less than a couple months so it's not that big a deal. Yeah, $200 is way too low a max on that survey. I don't buy that much, but I spend way more than that. I also had a little trouble when they asked how you collect based on character or vehicle. I really collect more on toy quality than anything ,sure I'll buy a toy of a character I like right away, but if it's a really good toy, it could be wheelie for all I care. The question on whether or not you buy whole lines or not was a little tough for me, too. I'm completionist on some lines, classics, but most of the time, I'm not.
Zherbus:
Cool. I was a bit shocked at the 'how much per year' question since it seemed aimed at adults. $200 is a figure we tell our wives, while in reality that is just a fraction. I feel so ashamed.
Sammael:
I just completed the survey, and I must say that it's one of the better product surveys I've seen - although the $200 upper limit is somewhat bizarre. I am not 100% sure on the exact figure, but I'm pretty certain that I've spent at least $1K on TFs this year, and I know I'm a fairly small collector.
juise:
I'm pretty sure the $200 a year being the max is mainly because they don't want you really thinking about how much you're spending on toys. Hell I'm going to spend $200 this month!

I think I mentioned Alternators at least 3 times. Maybe they will get the hint. I also let them know that Classics and Universe are not the same line, and that I DO NOT buy the re-tool re-paints from universe. Those lines really should be seperated.
Sammael:
I also mentioned Alternators, FWIW.
Ravenxl7:
Just did it. This is at least the second survey I've filled out for them. I mentioned RID at least once, so maybe they might get the hint that there are people out there who are RID fans, and would like a nod or two, and some more in Universe while they're at it.

Edit: I'm probably one of few people who doesn't spend $200 or more on TF's per year (almost there, but not quite yet).
a person:
I too lied about my age. I'm actually 14 but I ticked the box in the 18-24 age range. I consider myself to be as much a collector as the older folk over here.
Darkspeed:
Good survey, filled it out in full... Was it just me though, or when it came to the question about where you buy your figures from, it didn't have an option to click "Other"?

No matter what, you had to pick one of the options there, as well as fill out the text. Weird...

If you're gonna participate in a survey, why lie? Who does that benefit exactly?
blackout501st:
ok wtf. it only asked me how old i was. then it just said submit? wtf
Freyabeads:
They don't want my input.
Too old I guess. shut me out instantly.

so I tried 25-30, took me to the next step, checked female, they still don't want it.

Bah
BustaJesse:

I just dropped $230 on my Gadep robot a couple weeks ago. I spend a lot more than $200 in a month than a year.
Tenebrouser:
Very interesting survey. Maybe they'd consider an adult fan line akin to Matty's MOTU Classics line.

Me too.
newguy:
all it asked for was my age and that was it, or is this a big joke
Zress Tayasu:
I couldn't finish it; it wants to know where I buy "most" of my new stuff, and I tend to spread the money around too much to say that, due to the tendancy of my local stores to fail at stocking. they should have put a rocker switch point next to "other" on that page.

The problem is Hasbro's. The survey ends if the age is too low or high, or if you select female.
blunghole:
Filled it out. The part I found interesting was the "what message boards do you belong to" question. Maybe Hasbro is going to try to aim a little more marketing at the collector than usual.

While it may seem discriminatory, Hasbro may be looking for some specific data which does not include those age groups or females.

As my subject line suggests, it's not about whether or not you're "a collector as the older folk"; it's about attempting to measure items related to those who are of adult age. American society still considers persons under 18 as "adolescents". Most of the persons I've met under 18 do exhibit qualities of adolescents. Don't feel bad though; many adults do as well. ;

Anyways, surveys are collected for specific reasons. If Hasbro needs to measure the interests of a particular age group, it's not helpful to lie just so you can participate. It's certainly no need to do wrong.

That being said, I'd be interested in a survey targeted towards teenagers in regards to Transformers.

Bah
Again, apparently Hassbro is targeting a specific age demographic. I do have to say the exclusion of female participation puzzles me quite a bit. For whatever reason(s), Hasbro does not require as much input from the females. Personally, I'd think this a wonderful opportunity to get this information from females.
