DWA-Hasbro Merger Is In The Trash Can

Posted on 11-15-2014 at 01:38 AM by SilverOptimus under Other News
Scared_shrekless Hasbro has ended talks with DreamWorks Animation regarding their potential merger. It is said that a sudden drop of Market Share after the rumor has scared the Transformers Toy Maker to say "No" to the proposed merger. Disney; who roughly own 30% of Hasbro's business, also expressed a negative reaction to the deal.

"The breakup of the negotiations followed a sharp slide in Hasbro‘s shares after reports of the talks emerged late Wednesday. The toy maker’s shares had fallen nearly 5 percent since then, closing on Friday at $54.02. The fall in Hasbro’s share price was notable because the company had weighed paying both stock and cash, people briefed on the matter have said.

Also playing a role was a negative private reaction by the Walt Disney Company, which comprises roughly 30 percent of Hasbro’s business through licenses for “Star Wars,” Marvel characters, “Frozen” and the Disney Princesses toy line.

Disney was predictably upset that Hasbro would discuss a merger with DreamWorks Animation — its primary cartoon competitor — only weeks after the toy maker was given a lucrative Princesses contract, having taken it away from Mattel, one of these people said. As a toy partner, Hasbro receives early access to private information about films in Disney’s pipeline."

DreamWorks Animation & Hasbro In Merger Talks?

Posted on 11-12-2014 at 11:03 PM by Matty under Other News
yilcdfrgozgrthtczb4b A bit of interesting speculation is surfacing that revolves around supposed talks between Hasbro and DreamWorks Animation, a division of DreamWorks Studios. According to one article that has surfaced on Deadline, Deadline reports that "DreamWorks Animation is deeply engaged in two potentially game changing negotiations that could transform the company — including one with Hasbro to forge a family entertainment powerhouse to be called DreamWorks-Hasbro." The report claims that this deal is at least 60 days off, if it even happens, while both companies are not commenting on the matter and dismissing as rumor and speculation. You can read the full article here for more details.

You may recall that DreamWorks was involved in the production and distribution of the live action films Transformers (2007) and Revenge of the Fallen, while being somewhat involved in a lesser role with Dark of the Moon. It's not totally inconceivable that these two companies could potentially be in business discussions.

The biggest question circling around this rumor for now: what does this mean exactly? Is this Hasbro shifting away from physical toys and moving towards more entertainment routes? Will there now be more opportunities for Transformers toys? Are Transformers animation films now more plausible?

Time will tell, as for now this should be treated as a rumor. Speculate away TFW!

hub Deadline is reporting that The Hub, a joint venture with Discovery Networks and Hasbro, is no more. The channel will be re-branded in "Discovery: XYZ" fashion, most likely Discovery Family. They will also be taking a larger stake of the channel by acquiring Hasbro shares. Hasbro will retain some interest and continue to provide programming from 9 AM - 3 PM, so we should still see Transformers and other programming on the station. Whether or not they will also get prime time slots for first run episodes, not mentioned here. Check the full details over at Deadline and discuss on the forums!

A Glimpse Inside Ex Kenner/Hasbro Employee's Toy Collection

Posted on 08-21-2014 at 10:07 AM by StayingInTheBox under Other News
It's not very often Transformers fans get to witness toy history, such as something as epic as a nearly $27,000 G2 Menasor auction. Needless to say when prototypes, unreleased items, and test shots are shown, Transformers fans can be mesmerized by what we see. TFW thought it would be cool to share a small piece of that with two videos provided by z75sales, the seller who has been listing several unreleased items including the infamous G2 Menasor.

In the two videos we get a glimpse of the sheer size of an ex Kenner/Hasbro employee who is selling off the collection of untouched and rarely seen items. Literally hundreds of boxes with toys from the late 80's and 1990's need to be organized and categorized, some of which still hold surprises!

Check out the videos below for a fun piece of the rarely seen side of our hobby.

Marvel Infinite Series Death's Head Gallery

Posted on 08-13-2014 at 05:20 PM by Sol Fury under Other News
Deaths-Head-61 Death's Head is an unusual character in Transformers lore. A "freelance peace keeping agent", he was used extensively during the golden era of the 1980s UK Transformers comics - particularly in the 1987 / 1988 story arcs which saw Galvatron timejump to the then-present day, with Rodimus and others in hot pursuit. However, while Death's Head had a lot of page-time in the UK Transformers comics, he never made it to the US Marvel Transformers comics - and because he was owned by Marvel rather than Hasbro, he's never been used in Transformers since, never mind getting a toy.

That has all changed though, because Death's Head has now had an action figure released in the 3.75 inch Marvel Infinite Series collection. He's richly detailed and features his axe, buckler and mace accessories - the axe and mace can replace his fists, like the classic artwork. He's a fun little figure, although the hard rubber skirt tends to limit his legs a bit.

Check out our gallery at the link below, yes?
