Record Store Day 2015 exclusive: Shockwave discography

Posted on 03-26-2015 at 06:04 PM by KidDynamite under Other News
shockwave_1 Now here's an interesting entry, and something of a blast from the past. Revelation Records has announced a Record Store Day 2015 vinyl reissue of the entire discography of the 90's era Erie PA hardcore band Shockwave. For those that don't remember, Shockwave was a Transformers themed band through and through, with albums and songs named after Transformers, G1 audio samples, and a band logo featuring a masked Decepticon symbol.

The record is called The World is Ours: The Complete Recordings and is on double clear vinyl 12" in a gatefold sleeve. In a really nice touch, it also includes a clear red flexi 7" that can be used as a tech spec decoder on the album art.

This looks like a really nice and certainly unexpected release from this long dormant band. Check out the reveal video after the jump.

The Rise and Fall of The Hub and Hasbro's New TV Strategy

Posted on 02-25-2015 at 08:29 AM by Matty under Other News
HUB_Logo_3D_1 It's no secret by now, The Hub Network simply did not pan out as planned. When launched, many Transformers fans had high hopes for the Hasbro owned TV network. Unfortunately as time went on, a short amount of time, reality set in that The Hub was simply not making money fast enough.

Adweek ran a story about the rise and fall of Hasbro's TV attempt, specifically "what went wrong with The Hub, and what the toymaker hopes will go right" in the near future.

With Robots In Disguise premiering on Cartoon network on March 14, this may be a good time to revisit the background of The Hub's downfall with interview pieces from Hasbro executives and other industry leaders, while also taking a look at Hasbro's plan for the near future.

playwiththistoo We've been following the progression of PlayWithThisToo's upcoming action figure line here at TFW2005. While it isn't 100% Transformers related, it does have throwbacks to lines and themes we all grew up on and has several former Hasbro employees involved. For the past 6 months, new concept art for multiple characters have been revealed with the first physical prototype of Desolataur hitting as well. You can check updates and discussion for them all in the forums here.

We wanted to remind everyone that the Kickstarter for this project starts this Friday, February 27th, at 9 AM. If they make any of these figures, how many, and what awesome little bonuses we get all depends on the level of support you show. So keep an eye out on their Facebook page and here this Friday for details on where and how to support the project.

Former TF Artist Don Figueroa's Armarauders Project Update

Posted on 02-09-2015 at 03:04 PM by Tony_Bacala under Other News
Armarauders-Bellerophon-122 A little bit on Non-Transformers news today. Back in 2012 we got word that famed Transformers artist Don Figueroa was involved with a new project called Armarauders. An all original story featuring a comic book and toys based on it was the plan. Don was doing the mecha designs and drawing the books, both things that he excels at.

The comics are now hitting issue 6, and the first figure is set to go up for pre-orders in March. Mecha Workshop is the company producing it, and they've sent out early copies of the figure for review. We've done up a full set of over 140 pics showing the Armarauders Bellerophon in action at our sister site We hope you'll check it out and see what one of the best Transformers artists to grace our comics and packages is up to now.

Non-Transformers: Gokin Machine Robo / Masterpiece Gobots!

Posted on 02-06-2015 at 01:28 AM by Sol Fury under Other News
Masterpiece-Gobots-1 Non-Transformers, but this will excite all of you who have been fans of transforming robots in the 1980s. Via Taghobby / Cybergundam on Facebook, we have a look at a whole line of Gokin (high-end release) versions of several Machine Robos, who many of you may remember from the 1980s as the GoBots! The selection of characters in the line definitely seems to have been inspired by GoBots as well as Machine Robo, the original Japanese version of the series. The lineup shown thus far includes:
  • Cy-Kill
  • Jet Robo / Fitor
  • Drill Robo / Screwhead
  • Turbo
  • Leader-1
  • Tank Robo / Tank
  • Shuttle Robo / Spay-C

Plus there are one or two others.

It looks like Bandai & Action Toys is serious about bringing back the Gobots / Machine Robos as a whole line of high-end collector releases, to compete with the Masterpiece Transformers.

Discuss this revelation in the discussion thread linked below, and for more non-Transformers toy news, be sure to visit our sister site, The Toyark!

Shout Factory launches their own free TV channel

Posted on 02-05-2015 at 03:51 PM by Sol Fury under Other News
Here is something which may be of interest, though there is no Transformers connection - yet.

Shout Factory, who has been putting out the Transformers shows on DVD and Blu Ray in the US for some time now, has recently announced the launch of their own multi-platform channel, Shout Factory TV. The channel is being billed as a place to watch cult classic shows and movies, plus original specials.

While there is no word on Transformers, the implication with Transformers shows coming off Netflix is that this may well end up being the home for the shows. Watch this space for more news, and check out the announcement video below:
