Transformers United EX Backstory Details

Our fellow fans over at the Allspark have shared some translated details of the Transformers United EX line which was originally published in the latest Figure King magazine. The translation gives the overarching backstory for the line, a couple of new subgroups, and lastly also details the basic bios of the first two "Prime Mode" sets, Combat Master and Jet Master.

The backstory goes that the war between the Autobots and Decepticons has once again shifted into outer space leaving the Earth in relative peace. The Autobots, working with Professor Chase (aka Chip Chase from the Generation 1 cartoon series) develop a new system where they can use Power Core Combination to merge with teams of four drones. The Autobots with this capability become known as "Master Class", but the Decepticons form their own covert counter-ops team with the same abilities, named "Master Chaos".

Essentially it is a fleshing out of the basic premise of the Power Core Combiners line, as well as shifting the backstory from a pseudo-Movie universe continuity into a fully Generation 1 incorporated continuity. According to a further post on the Allspark, it takes place very late in Japanese Generation 1 continuity, with the character names being codenames - i.e. Jet Master is not the character's actual identity but a codename to conceal who he really is, due to the classified nature of the project.

Some bio data is also provided for Combat Master and Jet Master. Combat Master is a Decepticon strategic commander who has been active since the early days of the war, and like Bombshock he steals his drone team from the Autobots, but in a fleshing out of the story it is stated the drones he stole were intended for Chopper Master initially. Jet Master meanwhile like Skyburst is the first Autobot to achieve Power Core Combination, and in a fleshing out of Skyburst's story, his Aerialbot drones are based on data gathered from the original Aerialbots. He was also built on Planet Z, with his four drones - Zone Drone, Feminia Drone, Micro Drone, Tenth Drone - all being named for planets featured in the Transformers Zone story.

Check out the original post and full translation over on the Allspark.

According to Hydra pretty much every character will be an existing TF. The X-master names being code names. Some perhaps controversial choices too apparently. Interesting.

I'm a sucker for fiction (something US PCCs were missing) and this inclusion of them in Japanese G1 and tying them to an adult Chip sounds like fun.

-ZacWilliam, can't afford them but very eager to see their story come to life.
RedAlert Rescue
I suppose the red one is Rodimus ?
Blitz.
I was going to say the red car is going to be Hotrod rather then say the logical choice of say light speed or Sideswipe or even overdrive
DecepticusPrime
Interesting. I've already grouped my pcc into my classics shelf so this reinforces it.

Interesting. I'll be curious to see where this fiction goes. I'd love to see the return of the mini-comics that Henkei had to flesh out the story with these releases.

I'm glad to see the minicons get names now too (the Backwind redeco is Firebug, and the Chainclaw redeco is Spanner, if I'm remembering the releases correctly), since I think they were unnamed previously.
ZacWilliam
None of them are likely to be Major characters like Rod/imus. The set up is specifically that the major players in the war are long gone from Earth leaving only reletively weak lesser characters behind who need the drones to match the combat power of more major characters.

-ZacWilliam, apparently it's set near the events of Operation Combination.

Oh I can't wait for this to be fleshed out!

Hydra's chosen a perfect spot to slot these guys in, totally fits with the late era Operation Combination stuff and what not

The whole "special new Autobot team developed while a similarly-powered Decepticon team is forming in secret" thing is very Masterforce. I like it. Still probably won't pay the import prices for the figures, but it's cool they'e taking the time to come up with a backstory for them.
CodeXCDM
TBH... instead of Takara fleshing out the story for these figures... they should've retooled the crap out of the crappy drones...

Nice decos they're making, but the QC-ridden drones being repainted is well...

I'd say you can't polish a turd... but um... Mythbuster's proved you can. *facepalm*

But you know what... at the end of the day... it's still a turd!
Optimist Prime
This is just someone having too much time on their hands, surely?
ZacWilliam
What are you talking about?

-ZacWilliam, can't wait for this fiction. Appently it's gonna be a mix of obscure and unexplored bots with a few favorites here and there. Hydra's basically patterning his character choice after LSotW wich sould be pretty cool.
Stepper
Maybe the story is nice but the toy is epic failure
Autovolt 127
Chip Chase....COURAGE!!!!!!!

I thionk i'll enjoy the PCC's i have more from now on. Hasbro should have used the bio Takara came up with.

Nope, this is the translation of the official story as presented in Figure King. It's not the first time Takara has come out with a line that effectively slots into continuity - for example, Binaltech wove an entire alternate timeline based on events of Cosmic Rust and Beast Wars Ravage being revived in the present day, or even Kiss Players & Kiss Players Position being inserted into part of the Generation 1 continuity (Kiss Players in between the Movie and Season 3, which was set in 2010 in Japan, and Position being set in a whole bunch of time periods but ending with a finale that establishes a definitive link between Unicron's life force on Earth for Beast Wars Second / Neo and Fortress Maximus being pulled from another time period by Primus to guard over said evil energy - until around about 2000 when he awoke as Brave Maximus in Car Robots!)

Basically, Takara, or rather Takara's writers, really love the Generation 1 continuity and are good enough with it to manage to fit all these side lines into the series without it feeling too forced.

Well, okay, maybe Position is a terrible example in that regard!
DecepticusPrime
I'd say Takara has 'forced' alot of things into the g1 continuity that do belong or don't make sense in the slightest....Car Robots being the main example but didnt they also shoehorn the AEC trilogy in too?

I don't think so.

IIRC, just about everything OTHER than AEC is part of G1 in Japan though.

-ZacWilliam, you may be remembering when they retroactively made their version of Cybertron part of AEC when it hadn't been when airing.

SO glad clever minds are at the helm!

It may not always make perfect sense, but (because I'm old and all you damned kids are on my damned lawn) I'd rather see the 'core' mythos get expanded, especially by these small-cheese offshoot lines that don't have anything better to do with their time anyway.

LOVE this stuff.

Can't wait for the wiki to digest and recap it all

Last I remember there were four / five Japanese continuity streams plus some splinters:

G1 - Beast Wars - Car Robots - Kiss Players - Robot Masters - United EX (not sure if Henkei also belongs in here?)
Splinter: G1 - Binaltech - Alternity

Micron Legend (Armada) - Super Link (Energon) - Galaxy Force (Cybertron, retconned from being an independent continuity a la Car Robots)

Animated, a continuity of its own, for now.

Transformers Prime, again "for now"

Movie series - when the 2007 movie came out and that infamous timeline was published, it was inserted into the Generation 1 continuity with no explanation of how it came to fit in there (or reconciliation of little things like how Megatron had been active on Earth for 20 years prior to the movie and died two years before, for example) I assume two movies and five years on it's now seen as its own continuity in the Japanese canon, at least there's no way it'll ever fit Generation 1 any more.
Driftx3
Well then. That's reduces the suck factor by .0000001 percent now that PCC has a reasonable back story...

Still the weakest TF designs since Armada.
