Our sponsors Robot Kingdom have reported that the next two releases in Takara-Tomy’s Transformers Legends line will be TG-06 Gelshark (aka Sky-Byte) and TG-07 Jetfire. The pair are Japanese market releases of the Generations Sky-Byte and Generations Leader class Jetfire, respectively, and they are due to be released in December.
While the initial photos are quite small, it seems as though both releases will sport altered paint jobs for their Japanese outings – Sky-Byte / Gelshark appears to have more silver on his sides in shark mode, and some metallic teal on part of the chest. Jetfire appears to have traded the red chrome on his weapons for regular flat red plastic.
Will you pick these up over their US versions? Sound off in the discussion thread linked below.

I find it amusing that this time around, Takara is the one offering a variant without the gaudy chromejob.

The one store that sells (non-movie) Generations TFs in the UK seems to be a year or two behind the US releases. I wouldn't be surprised if the Takara Jetfire I preordered turns up long before the Hasbro one shows up around here – if it ever does.
The Takara one will be more pricey, but I may eventually forget the extra cost. With the Hasbro one, the less detailed white plastic will always bother me every time I looked at it.

Because if Takara added the chrome, they wouldn't have sacrificed the colors in exchange. Hasbro did, so the accessories look dumbed down for it. I actually LIKE the chrome, but not at the expense of sacrificing the black. And no I'm not going to paint it, that will obviously look like crap. Still, it's probably not enough of a dealbreaker for me to pay almost double. Heck with all these MPs and 3Ps, I shouldn't even be buying CHUG figures anymore.

I haven't bought a Takara TF since Ratbat, but that Jetfire – now that's the one I want. Hasbro's version was a bit disappointing.
Preordered the Shark, too.
I don't mind chrome on TFs, but it just depends on how it's used, A bit of shininess (even a lot at times) can make a figure look a lot nicer.
But I am a bit dubious about some of Hasbro's latest efforts with chrome.

I did not. But at least you kinda see it too. So I'm not crazy in that regard. haha
Ah ok. Yeah, I've had no experience with this fig at all other than some stock photos.

The biggest difference here is that the Hasbro pic is mistransformed. The tail section isn't flattened out properly, which shifts the positioning of the booster pack.
The Takara version's photo is just taken at a slightly more head-on angle, shortening everything out.

It does kinda look like it, but it's the camera angle. I don't know if you saw the video review of it, but the fastpack can rotate while fastened to the jet. It just clicks back into place and isn't a defect.

well, just cancelled my hasbro preorder and preordered the takara jetfire. MIGHT pick up the hasbro one if I see him in retail ,or find him on sale some time.

None of Takara's Generations beastformer offerings have won me over. They all feel a bit "off". Some more than others. *looks at Takara Rhinox and Waspinator* *facepalm*

As do I.
I'll own both versions, but the TakTom one looks better to me.
Cheebs
Really? I think Gelshark is the larger improvement of the two.
IgnikaMarcus
I might get Jetfire, but the darker blue on Gelshark, um…..no thanks.

Jetfire looks quite good but it's Sky-Byte that's truly caught my eye.
I need to pre-order the Legends Sly-Byte/Gelshark.

Well, its usually about the same, perhaps AmiAmi/HLJ/Hobby is a few cents cheaper than Amazon, BUT for people in Japan Amazon is cheaper because it includes free shipping. Where ( at least in the past when I checked ) AmiAmi/HLJ/Hobby charged extra for shipping.
By the way, ( off Topic ) the former 80 dollar Japanese Go Predaking is now like 27 dollars on Amazon with free shipping to JPNs residents ! I have the USA one and had no desire to get the GO version but for 30 bucks its rather tempting for sure

Thx. Just curious

Different angles.

Thanks for the pics, but uhm, maybe it's just me or maybe the camera tricks, but is the Takara nose shorter and are the jetpacks crooked?

Oh nice, I didn't notice that before. All the extra painted bits seem like such small details but they make such a big difference. Just wish it was coming sooner than December.
