Transformers GT Megatron

There's a new Transformers GT release on the horizon, as revealed in the February 2013 Japanese Hobby magazine scans. Along with two pages of coverage on the very sharp looking Transformers GT Optimus Prime there is the reveal that Optimus Prime's arch nemesis Megatron will also be getting the Transformers GT treatment. GT Megatron is set to be the third release in the Transformers GT series after GT Prime and GT Saber, and also appears to be using the same Alternity Nissan GT-R Convoy body as the others. He comes with a big gun (as is only appropriate for Megatron), a Decepticon Race Queen (in a purple and black outfit, Decepticon colors!). He's set to run for 10,500 yen and is themed after the "S Rosd Ralto MOLA GT-R" (or, from lower down the same scan, "S Road Reito MOLA GT-R"). No word as yet on a release date - or indeed, where this leaves GT Maximus, who was posited as a possible third release in the series.

These scans come to you courtesy of the Cybergundam blog.

Scratch that I only saw Prime. That new one looks cool.

Megatron? Is that you?
Heat Guy
If only these weren't so expensive.
Blitz.
according to google translate it might be Megs cant say it looks anything like him unless we are thinking about the spychanger with SG's colours

But I will say this I do like it.

colours kinda match I guess.....
Shin-Gouki
NO! Beyond the Soundwave/Blaster set we don't need the Japanese doing any more SG Stuff!
Blitz.
really looking more at the SG and this guy the colours match up freakishly well

Silver arms with black hands? Check

red details on the legs? Yep tho Alternity uses the feet rather the shin area

Silver chest? Yep seeing what colour the hood will be while the Alternity toys chest is mostly black in robot mode it will have a good deal of silver in the GTR mode.

small bits of yellow? check

I'd say its a good chance of it being SG Megatron gone all Alternity. This would also make it fitting for him to use a prime body I guess (well as much as it does fortmax and star sabre to use it)
Obsidian X
Isn't it supposed to be Fort Max?
I recall people saying that besides Optimus and Star saber we were supposed to get a Max in this line.

It looks more like Dai Atlas to me.

EDIT: nevermind, just noticed the teeny tiny Con symbol.

Love the weapon. Best of the 3 so far.

Yeah Megatron looks amazing. I love the Race Queen design too, with the classic Decepticon black and purple.

Not sure why people would think it has anything to do with SG. The SG's colors are normal G1 Megatron's colors too, just in different proportions.

So they tried removing the Samurai bits on this version it seems? Would be curious to see the actual figure.

Still... I'd also like ideas as to what to repurpose him into... cuz yea... this mold's never felt like Megatron to me. Same goes for PRime. Good figs, but really, can't see them as the Bot/Con leaders.
Sweeny28
Honestly think this is the best one yet with those colours and that gun! Just wish they were cheaper. Really surprised they have gone this route when a Megatron mold already exists - strongly suggests that the GT line will only get this one mold. Shame. A WRC Suzuki or Motorsport 370Z would have been pretty cool.
Crystal Convoy
That looks awesome. I'm going to have to get all of these new Alternities.
Timesynch
^ Agreed. G1 GT-R Megs looks pretty damn nice, especially with his fusion cannon inspired gun (a bit of Shockwave with the back hose too). But the price really hurts. Red Convoy's gun looks a bit daft by comparison; it's more gas/water pump nozzle or handheld megaphone than a gun, to my eyes.

The only one I'll be getting for sure is the green/white "Fort Max" version; he'll be my Alternity Wheeljack due to the colors alone (and the sponsor logos are a callback to Jackie's racer Lancia alt mode). I even like green/white Sailor Moon inspired Racing Queen he comes with, compared to the other girls who seem more like the typical racer sponsor models.

They didn't remove anything. It uses the Convoy/GT-R mold, not the Z.

Out of all the versions, this one seems to be the best. Interesting colors, interesting altmode, awesome weapons, and he works the best as a completely new character for mingling on your shelf.
Squawktalk
I've not bought any of these. What's the price point?
anubis20
I love alternities! This one is so bought
Timesynch
Wonder if there's a way for Megs to mount his gun on the arm (rather than hold it in his hand) to be more geewun.
Digilaut
So, any reason why this Megatron, while we already have an Alternity Megatron and this one looks nothing alike?

Don't get me wrong, he looks cool, but even the Prime one is similar to the Alternity one, just with an added visor-thing (which looks totally awesome). This feels like a nameslap.
harrismonkey
Can't make out enough from this picture to decide how I feel about it.

I do know this though, if they're going to keep churning these out, a new mold would really get my attention (and almost certainly be a buy). At the moment Prime is a definet yes, the others I'm unsure about. I have no problem buying 2 (if 2 seem worthwhile) after that they really need to get serious about this.

I thought they said the black G-TR was Black Convoy/Nemesis Prime? It would have made more sense if they used the GT-R's predecessor Fair Lady Z in Super GT 500 molding. But Nissan does not race the Fair Lady Z since the GT-R blows it out the water. It does not seem that TakaraTomy is able to afford a different car mold so I understand. I will buy this version out of the others since I like the black models. If you can stick the gun on the forearm somehow it would be awesome.
Griff
Wow, these are way better than their Masterpiece figures. Opening doors/hoods probably rubber tires too.

Who ta' thunk it. Megatron being nameslapped. I think that's the first time that's happened since RID.

That was a hoax. As was the info about Toxitron and Ultra Magnus.

The Alternity had rubber tires, so logic dictates these will too.

I like his Race Queen a lot. Not going to pay $120 just for her, but I'd buy it separately if they sold them like that.
Pcm979
Yay, a second chance at making a Binaltech/Alternity Megatron! I couldn't stand the previous one. Not just because the designer seemed to have thought he was making Bludgeon, but the terrible lower legs.

I am wondering though, are they gonna use any other base molds? At all? 'Cause they're already pushing it.
RedAlert Rescue
I rather liked those fake designs that included Legion or Toxitron (in yellow) and Nemesis Prime.

I guess what they are trying to get at with this one is the G2 Gobots Megatron (Porsche) I'd like to see him with a G1 Megatron style sword - that would rather suit him.

Cute 'Racing Queen' (Grid Girl) too. I may get all of these but in all honestly the cars will be shelved somewhere safe and forgotten about the little "Microman" Grid Girls I'll actually play with - Ganamede is going to get a girly sidekick !!

The deco on them is 'A-Maze-ing' though. I'll have to put some feelers out see if I can find anyone who can fid them for me even a tiny bit cheaper than retail or a place that has very cheap shipping on them.

So 4 repaints of a $100 plus figure into 4 completely unrelated figures and you guys are gushing with excitement? :/
adambman
I at least haven't gushed on the boards about the Racing Queens yet, but this one seems cool - toned down perhaps and more dressed to go clubbing maybe.

Even though I haven't committed to purchasing any of the upcoming GT range yet (with the savings outlaid I might as well get Encore Fort Max at the same time), my thoughts soon turned to the possibility of a GT Megatron. A lot of Alternity fans and/or critics might have seen the lack of a gun/cannon with that Megatron as a missed opportunity, with or without having seen such an accessory with the concept design drafting in the Japanese Generations guidebooks.

Considering the play feature with the GT weapons so far I'm not surprised that MEg's gun is completely different from the Alternity concept, though it's so close to being a BFG that I'm not sure how it transforms into anything race/pit stop related. I'll give it a closer look after the festivities calm down a bit.

Different strokes for different folks, i could say the same for the fall of cybertron line. Theyre not my cup of tea but people gush with excitement for them and theyre a bunch of repaints and im happy for them. Everyone collects different things regardless of price and I,personally, am gushing with excitement for this because I love this line.

Repainting a mold into another character that has some logic or precedent (Prime/Magnus, Seekers, etc) makes sense but Prime and Megatron sharing the same mold is just plain lazy. And a green Fort Max? Maybe they will repaint the mold pink and call it Sunstorm. That should sell like hotcakes.

Collect what you want but lets at least make an effort to get something different from this line.

If it isnt obvious by now (multiple repaints within this line) this about as new as it'll get. Dont like it move along...

this was Alternity 'Dai Atlas'

The new Con' looks like a meaner looking Megs to me, IMHO.

Bought if ever released/

For me,this Alternity line is a flop, not only are the figures are expensive, they just keeping using the same mold but just a repaint of different colours & they can called
them as different character.

When Alternity first came out, the quality and design felt pretty in step with MP to me. (of course shortly before many people had viewed MP and BT and being sort of sister lines)

I still like MP, but your comment sort of highlights a recent issue I've begun to have with MP. The quality hasn't gone down per se. But the focus has sort of shifted away from making the nicest toys possible (which gave nods to original toy, cartoon and anything else that made sense)- to making toys as faithful as possible to the G1 cartoon designs. They're doing a fantastic job with that.

The problem is that the G1 cartoon designs tended to be very simple and plain (to make animating them easier). In many cases the cartoon design was actually less detailed than the original toy.

The result is the MP toys are beginning to come up a bit short on the detail that used to make them so incredible. My wife couldn't believe it when I told her Sideswipe was MP. If Sideswipe is really what we can expect from the MP line down the road, I'm unsure if I'll stick with it or not.

I'm hoping Prowl is next, and I'm hoping I end up really liking him rather than just sort of liking Sideswipe (he's my least favorite MP I own).

Well, the original alternity Convoy was among the most impressive toys HasTak has done. This is a far more elaborate and detailed repaint than we typically see. Possibly superior to the original. Also they've done some remolding. Imagine if they'd tried this hard with the paint/detailing on the DOTM wreckers...

So yes, this is one of the most exciting things to come out of HasTak in a while. They've pretty much left the collectors that loved high detail, high paint, realism toys out in the cold for quite some time. Just seeing a serious effort again is exciting to me.

Personally, I'm getting Prime (maybe even one to display in both modes). Pretty sure I'm passing on Star Saber. I won't know about Megatron or Metroplex until we see pictures of the final toys.

It does bother me they're reusing molds, and I think the namesakes are mostly stupid. But if the toys are great, who cares.

I will say, these are the only alternity repaints I've bothered with (except Skywarp). I feel like these bring more to the table than most repaints do, and I also miss the high end toys HasTak isn't really doing any more. Even the MPs are different (not necessarily worse- but there has been a shift in direction)
blue death
Hoooo boy Megs is looking pretty rough there.
sinwithme13
these figures are nice but too small of a scale for the price
SydneyY
Megs looks nice, but I'm happy with the Fairlady ones.
Acteon
Nice. The Alternity Prime is one of my favourite TF figures, and for the build quality, detail and heft of the figures they're almost worth the price point. I'll probably wait and see if Mandarake get them in second hand before ordering, though they would look gorgeous in my office cabinet alongside my Miku BMW, Porsche 959 and G1 Smokescreen

Why does Megs come with a race queen? I mean he's a Decepti... MAYBE IT'S BLUDGEON!

^ Why should Bots get all the groupies? XD
sinwithme13
still think this is too much for such a small scale

I thought this was going to be a great opportunity to mix Super GT and modern racing cars with the technology of Binaltech/Alternity style toys, both of which I love, but the more I see of the releases and the use of "Mission GT-R" on the latest displays, I wonder if it's purely a Transformers, Super GT and Nissan initiative. Nissan are very good and branching out and their successful forays into PlayStation, GT Academy through Gran Turismo and Race Academy show they are not afraid to try new things with their brand. I wonder if the other manufacturers in Super GT like Honda and Lexus are less willing to have their models used by Takara Tomy for this line?

The price point really is so high, I would only want to get into these toys if I knew other manufacturers would be introduced and we could conceivably have a half decent grid of race cars to display.

So far they have shown the Motul Autech, Impul Calsonic, S Road Reito Mola and Advan D'Station Nissan GT-Rs, and that is currently all of the Nissan GT-R teams in Super GT, GT500 class. So if they are going to go beyond GT-04, I guess they will have to include further Honda HSV-010 and Lexus SC430 models. That is unless they want to use the GT300 class cars where there are more Nissan GTRs, and those are a lot closer in mould to the Alternity toys...

Ohhh I dream of a Raybrig Honda HSV010 in this line....

All the best
Maz
