Transformers Behind the Secrets of Transformers TV Special in Japan

A recent TV special in Japan went behind the scenes at Takara-Tomy, showing the place where the magic happens - the offices of the Takara-Tomy Transformers design team. As well as showing the offices, viewers were treated to a view of the desk of Transformers Masterpiece series designer, "Mr Starscream" Shogo Hasui. On his desk you can see a quartet of Masterpieces - Masterpiece Lambor (Sideswipe) test shot alongside the released Starscream and Convoy (MP11 and MP10 respectively) and an Ultra Magnus proof-of-concept custom, built from a Generation 1 Ultra Magnus trailer and then attached to an MP10 Convoy. It is in no way an indication that a Masterpiece Ultra Magnus is in our future - but it is a good indication that if a few things line up, then we just might see one. After all, it is a good sign that the lead designer for the Masterpiece series happens to have this proof of concept on his desk, no?

This newer pic. looks like the Takara designer. took the old 1986 ultra magnus & cut it in half with a saw blade. in order to make it fit around the MP-10 robot body.

maybe it's just a quick mock up. in order to gain interest for a new mold MP ultra magnus car carrier trailer.

I like last years proto type design pic. better than the second newer pic in this thread.

2. It's just a kitbashed mock-up made with G1 parts.

As others have said, that's just a mockup using G1 Ultra Magnus parts and an MP-10.

As stated, it's a mock-up. A proof of concept, if you will, to demonstrate how MP10 could work as an Ultra Magnus.

As Masabon has demonstrated, it is a part of a larger program showing how Takara-Tomy designs and creates Transformers toys.

Sorry guys, but this is in no way proof than an MP Magnus with armour is happening just yet.

Thanks for the pictures and it is good to know something they are doing it. The mockup body looks alsmost the same with the blur photo posted in the 2nd picture.

this is just the mock up! started to wet myself when i see the thread title! but quickly turned to disappointment

really hope mp magnus looks a thousand times better than this! but the height would be perfect!

It's still an interesting peek at how they design these toys, and a good idea of what it will look like if it ever ends up released. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to see what came out of this.

Old pic though, IIRC it's MP10 with modded G1 Ultra Magnus armour.....been posted several times in the MP speculation thread.

EDIT - Should read whole thread before replying!! I think it looks quite good.....stick some articulated hands on him and give him proper weapons and it's do-able by anyone right now. On a side note Sideswipe looks fucking awesome next to MP10 there too!

Hasui strikes again! Even for a rough mockup it looks good, the size certainly works for me compared to convoy. Hope we see some real confirmation soon...ish, we should let them finish soundwave in peace first!

Slightly off topic, but is the show online somewhere with english subs? That Magnus is clearly a G1 trailer but I'm more interested in seeing the show!

Man, the title thread got me so excited only to be disappointed.
Page 2 pics are new pics, but both of page 1 pics are old (Pic#1 was posted by someone not sure which thread probably the MP thread last week? Pic2 is an old pic since the debut of MP10).

Not sure why it was labeled as MP1X?
Hm, I'm just curious if MP10 is used as the inner body and the pelvis/leg is rotated at 180 to make the front of MP UM, then why I can't see Prime smoke stack from those pics? Unless MP10 itself is also chop off.

yeah its goes like MP13...MP14 etc...thats my guess anyway.....Although its obvisouly the old g1 trailer,i do like that they clearly showing their intentions for an UM figure....which was one of my fav robots when i was a kid..Prime and Magnus looked so awesome in the cartoon....cant wait for his MP treatment

At this point, a mockup is better than nothing, IMO. It, at least, shows that someone's interested in making one. An actual MP UM has been my most wanted MP since the disappointment that was MP-02

Totally agree,i love seeing images like these because it strongly indicates that we will be seeing a proper MP Ultra Magnus sometime in the future

Personally speaking, I think that shitty brick mock-up does more damage than good when it comes to trying to build any anticipation for a real MP Magnus.

Much like being animators for Japanese anime, it's probably a lot of long hours and grueling work (and crappy pay) than most bargain for, lol.
