Japanese store Yamashiroya in Ueno has a new display showing off the next release for the Masterpiece Transformers line, MP-12 Lambor aka Masterpiece Sideswipe. As well as showing Sideswipe in both his modes the display has a healthy amount of artwork, concept drawings and other material to showcase the new Masterpiece. Particularly awesome are the concept sketches showing how Red Alert and Sideswipe’s head has subtle differences, and the scale chart from the original cartoon which designer Hasui Yuki is using to determine the appropriate scale of Sideswipe in relation to MP-10 Convoy Version 2.0.
Check out all the images attached to this story. Huge thanks to 2005 Boards member Masabon for sending all of these our way!

not longer then a month and then i've got him in hand and man i just can't wait for that

And this is why Takara Tomy had that scale guide present when they displayed Sideswipe earlier this week lmao
I'm happy, if small scale MP's equal MORE MP's, why wouldn't we want that? Remember the release scale of years past? It TOOK FOREVER to get a new figure.
Love Sideswipe, cannot wait to see what comes next
OMEGAPRIME1983
I've noticed, lol.
Optimus1116
Well, I'm Italian too, but I'm probably not as stubborn as you are
LamboTwinLove
Well, Italians are a very passionate but argumentative people. We are stubborn and a fire in us the gets lit whenever we debate. Also doesn't help I'm an Aries so I like to head butt things lol.
OMEGAPRIME1983
This actually intrigues me for some reason ….

I get that some people are mad that he isn't Hot Rod or Optimus sized, but why don't we stray away from the toon for a minute and see how the 3 of them are as toys?
I think Sideswipe's size fits the bill, when in comparison to the scale of the toys' bot modes.
(Sorry for the handless Optimus.. Haven't quite purchased the necessities yet lol)
LamboTwinLove
Oh! Another Italian!
Cyclonus79
Ahh…new there was reason why I liked your style. Seems we share the same heritage.
LamboTwinLove
I'm Italian. Fire is part of our heritage lol!
Duomaxwell1017
nah the Autobot symbol is as big as his ego! lol
JetBrawn
Looking good
surprised to see the Autobot symbol almost as big as Sideswipe's head (bigger than his face)
Cyclonus79
DAAAAMMM!! Wow! You got some fire in ya girly!
LamboTwinLove
Yeah, I mean obviously gonna make due with what we got and really Sideswipe and Sunstreaker are the last MP figures I'm ever gonna buy so whatever. I'll just bribe someone with 250 bucks to make a BIG Sideswipe.
Still think it was a bone head move but whatever.

As for MP-10 being bigger, well we essentially had that; it was MP-01. I've always felt that MP-01 was a great size for Op, and that the MP seekers and Grimlock were too small by comparison. Even MP-09 works great as Hot Rod next to MP-01. However, in the last year or so we've gone from those two molds being too small (seeker and Grimlock I mean), to them being the new 'correct' scale and MP-01 & MP-05 being outdated for being too big. Ah well. I guess somewhere in a parallel universe MP-03 was made at a bigger scale to match MP-01/MP-05 and the whole Masterpiece line is a satisfyingly hefty size! Meanwhile us poor schmucks in this universe just have to make do with what we get

Completely agree here. Had Sideswipe come before the scale shift he would have been bigger.
Again, I don't think it's perfect. I think that size should have been used for the minibots. MP10 should have been a little bigger and so on and so forth. And you're right we are not getting oue moneys worth.
I'm pretty positive the scale shift has nothing to do with making it more enjoyable for fans and everything to do with downsizing, less product for the same or more money.
Had Sideswipe come before the shift he would have been bigger. And I'm nto just bitching for Sideswipe. MP 10 should have been a tab bigger and then the rest should have been a bit bigger. I don't want Sideswipe to be Prime size because obviously he is not. And if I want one that size i can shell out the money to someone to make a custom. The single entity of Sideswipe is not the issue, there is a bigger issue.
If they had thought ahead and made MP10 a bit bigger the scale thing would work all the way down to the cassettes. But as it stands right now I feel the minis and cassettes will be done poorly.
I mean seriously the only MP's I plan to buy are this Sideswipe and Sunstreaker if/when he comes out. So really, I'm set. I'm just saying that the line has essentially been screwed for the smaller cars/bots.
Market research? Yeah right. More like lets cheap out research.
And I'm a chick, thanks for essentially calling me a penis. Which is funny because if you look at Sideswipe as if his size were a penis size… I'm sure all of you men would want him just a little bigger.

Fantastic Pictures! Apparently I'm a bit behind on my news threads. Thanks for sharing Masabon!
OMEGAPRIME1983
Just at the same price as Sideswipe, . But again, this will HOPEFULLY be due to obtaining the licence from VW.

It's made it more enjoyable for me!
And I don't think the designer will have made the decision alone without a LOT of market research to back the new direction up. Regardless, he designs toys for a living, you're just a schmuck bitching on the internet… And you call HIM the idiot, ha ha. ๐

Actually, from a business standpoint, it was a great move. Introducing a smaller price point for the line was a logical step. Not everyone is going to buy a Sideswipe that's as large as Convoy, but not many will pass one that can interact with him in both modes. Idiotic move? Don't think so. Making Sideswipe, a comparatively minor character, as big as, or larger than convoy, THAT would of been a bad move. He's a great character, yes, but not a huge role. Not that many of them HAD big roles, but that's not the point. Looking back, I get why you're upset he isn't getting a larger figure, but this has to do with the larger plan.
