Takara-Tomy’s “Mr Starscream” Shogo Hasui has put out an image via Twitter of a test shot of the upcoming Masterpiece MP-12 Lambor aka Sideswipe. In his Tweet, Hasui-san says that:
“MP-12 Lambor comes up to test shot stage (the metal mold is done). The accuracy of the metal mold has been improved. Look forward to this going on sale in October.”
The image shows an unpainted test shot of Sideswipe for plastic color check, meaning he is close to production and looking very sharp. We certainly will be looking forward to this one being released in October!

I highly doubt Hasbro will ask less then 50-60 for their version of MP Sideswipe. I mean When the Walmart Skwarp came out he was 60 even before the price reductions. Now the TRY TC is listed at 70 (rounded up).
I highly doubt Sideswipe will be anything less then 50 over here.
Not that I really care. I have the TT one on preorder. TT has better boxes.
If Hasbro does Sideswipe I will pick it up to have in Alt mode maybe. But what I'm really waiting for is the Ehobby G2 repaint.
Stepper
Hasbro version maybe going cheaper than $60 i guess,we shall see.

yes finally sideswipe gets his masterpiece hopefully sunstreaker gets a masterpiece figure soon

No, it wouldn't have to transform. I mean, it would be cool if it could but I really just display my toys in bot mode… with the exception of the botcon 03 Sideswipe and Sunstreaker… those bot modes are just ugly.
But yeah, not married to the idea of him having to transform.
And on topic. This is the direction the MP line is going and as much as it may irritate a lot of us it's what we are getting. So yeah, vent. We're all human, we need to let it out and that's what places like this are for. But in the end you need to decide if the piece of plastic is worth it to YOU. This MP Sideswipe, for what he is, is pretty awesome. I mean it looks really nice and am sure I will be happy with what this figure IS instead of what I thought it should have been.
TigerBlade
This.
Ppl often confuse 'Masterpiece' with having an overly complicated transformation when it actually means definitive G1 figure.
OptimusTimelord
Well, MP-12 isn't 1:24 scale (unfortunately). Best guess is somewhere around 1:28. He will look too small to fit in with Alt/BTs anyway, which is a shame.
Would it have to transform? You could probably make a decent job of one with parts from a 1:18 Countach kit attached to a suitable base robot (MP-01 for example). Having it transform would require more skills and work though…
Agreed, this is a G1 Masterpiece we're talking about, and we can't start messing with the G1 designs just to get overcomplicated figures, or they start to not look like the character they're supposed to! I already think the tail lights folding up and being visible on the feet is a liberty that gets in the way, so I'm glad they didn't go any further with unnecessary stuff like that.
opt1musaber
It is entirely possible for this price. The cheapest place for MP Sideswipe atm is RobotKingdom for $60 including Amazon exclusives…I can't imagine them selling the U.S version for more than $60, IF they make it though.
HnH
not thinkin Hasbro is going to ask 40 45 for it… even if they are going to release it, my guess is a 60 usd slot
Stepper
If Hasbro really charging him for $40-45,i will definitely grab it
Grimmjow
Definitely buying this.

To be fair, that awful digibashed example you provided looks just as much like a "yup, duh, that guy obviously turns into a car" design as the MP does. The big difference being the MP version actually looks cartoon/comic accurate whereas that RodimusSwipe thing looks like custom gone bad.
Autovolt 127
Looks great. Can't wait to see it finalized.
SMOG
I want Sideswipe to look like he turns into a car. I never agreed with the notion that TF's should look just like giant people with a few surface details that remind us of cars. In that sense, I almost prefer the Red Alert version with his fake shoulder wheels (though the idea of FAKE car kibble is also kind of dumb). But the aesthetic of that photoshop mock-up is really, really wrong for me.
Agreed.

I really like how he looks. Can't wait to own him. Here's a question though…. when Hasbro rrleases this guy, how much will they charge for him. $40-45?
LamboTwinLove
While I agree that the MP Sideswipe we are getting can't really be considered an MP figure I have to disagree with the photoshop of Rodimus into Sideswipe. Size wise yes, I would have loved for him to be that tall. To me a Masterpiece Sideswipe figure should DWARF my Alternators Sideswipe. Not be on par with him.
But the photoshopped version you posted looks too much like it took it's cues from CHUG Sideswipe and that is just a no no to me. I love the design of the MP we are getting. He just should have been bigger and more… wowing.
Of course we are all going to have different takes on what we think the MP line should be. Some of us just want to see big detailed awesome figures without really a care to scale. While others want scale. I agree it's more cost effective for TT and Hasbro to go the way they are going with how the times are and the fact that this line is aimed at the adult collectors more then the kids. I mean I wouldn't let a child younger then 13 near and MP anything.
So yeah, just my opinion on Sideswipe and I am biased obviously. Again, it's not stopping me form buying him. I've had a preorder with BBTS since it went up. I will love this Sideswipe because he is gorgeous and a great take on my little red lambo. But I'm even more determined to have a LARGE scale Sideswipe in my collection. One day.

Well to be honest, MP-10 has more room to hide the kibble. The rest of the Autobots have always been smaller than Optimus. A smaller figure has less space available to hide or move things around. For the most part, we have always been able to tell what the Autobots alt mode is, just based upon looking at their bot mode. I don't believe anyone has ever looked at Hound and said "gee, I wonder what kind of vehicle he turns into". The Bots, for the most part, have always worn their hoods/front ends on their chest and had very simple transformations. I mean seriously, where do you expect them to hide the hood at? Where did G1 Sideswipe hide his hood at? More than likely the hood is going to be diecast, its not like they can just fold up a solid piece of metal.
I can't change your mind about this figure, nor do I want to. I just think you should be looking at this figure realistically. I believe Sideswipe is a Masterpiece because, just as MP-08, MP-10, MP-11, he is a great representation of his G1 toy/cartoon character.

Looks like he'll have a good range of poseability in him Not everyone is a fan of this new direction Hastak is taking with the MP line but me personally i'm absolutely loving it and really really hope they eventually release all the autobot cars(fingers crossed)
Feralstorm
Looks very very nice, but unless there's a pleasant surprise in terms of materials, paint, or accessories, I'll continue to be a bit disappointed in the "bang for the buck" ratio, and will probably wait to find out what Hasbro does with it, if anything.
kajobaldisimo
Mp sideswipe is looking sweet. I will buy.
JSix
That rodimus/sideswipe photoshop looks kind of akward…
Anyway, I would have liked to have seen them shrink the hood horizontally like they did on alternity figs, and compress the bulk on the lower legs. Otherwise, I think it'll be an awesome figure far superior to the clumsy binaltech mold, and most of the people bitching about it now are going to end up buying in the long run.
Can't wait.
