By way of Autobase Aichi and masterfileblog (and 2005 boards staff member SydneyY) we have some information for you regarding an upcoming contest for Japanese Transformers fans. From 11 August, there will be downloadable base drawings to be colored in from TV Aichi, Avex DVD official page and TakaraTomy's own site.

Entrants will have a choice of characters to color, and can pick one of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Ratchet, Arcee, Megatron and Starscream. The two grand prize winners will receive the toy of the Transformer they colored in the color scheme that they chose - in other words, the top prizes will be some of the rarest of the rare in terms of Lucky Draw Transformers, the coloring contest prize toys. Takara ran a contest like this twice before in the past, for Galaxy Force and for the Robot Masters line.

For non-Japan residents, at least the base drawings will give all the budding colorists among us a chance to hone their skills.

IIRC Galaxy Force and Robot Masters had similar contests. Only one custom colour Galaxy Convoy figure exisits from what I know of, but according to Autobase Aichi, Robot Masters custom coloured Convoy (known as crayola Convoy) was also available at some Kodansha events.

I sometimes wonder what happened to the custom coloured, one in the world Galaxy Convoy. Did it ever surface in a secondary market?

yeah, it'll be worse than actionmaster Thundercracker.

edit: found the RM Convoy. Yikes.

I think that Robotmaster coloring contest was an insult to both collectors and kids. There must have been people who actually put effort into creating an original, visually dynamic color scheme, and picking this Prime as the winner must have been a real slap in the face to them. That thing was more like an Unlucky Draw.

I think its cool to have an actual kid win the coloring contest, cause after all, these are toys aimed at kids, and its nice to see the judges of the contest realizing that. I actually enjoy the wacky colors.

From the context of masterfileblog text, this contest seems to be open to both adult and kids. Since there are two winners, I hope one for kids and the other for adults

I like wacky ones, too

Dammit!

Oh well...I can never keep my crayons inside the lines anyway.

^ What Galvatron Rage said haha

I wonder if some kid will bust out a bunch of Copics or something and go all out in coloring their entry. Either that, or PhotoShop.

Contests of this sort should award prizes to candidates in different age brackets

Maybe it's just me being me, but couldn't you just cut out the middleman and mod an actual figure yourself to your liking? I personally aim for show accuracy and super detail, but you'd be getting your design, and it'd technically be "rarest of the rare" seeing as you hold the only one in existence. It's just how I see it. Still a cool contest.

"and it will be some crappy 5 year old kids color scheme that dont make any sense that will win." is what my brain was trying to say before I interrupted it and said making your own was much more fun and satisfying. Agreed. But it does make sense if the plot was Bumblebee going undercover by being repainted that way, which admittedly was a good disguise. No autobot would EVER look THAT crappy.....right?

I don't think competitions like this should be allowed to be coloured in on computer.

"Contestants have taken the bait. They've discovered the colouring-contest, and returned with their crayons."

Anyway, this looks like a really fun contest. I'm eager to see what wacky colour schemes will emerge
Aernaroth
Oh god, I wonder what horror the contest will result in THIS time.
