E-Hobby have updated their preorder page for the Japanese Generations TG-29 Megatron and Starscream Legends set with official pictures of the figures. The Japanese release of these Legends class toys gives Megatron a Generation 1 inspired deco rather than the IDW inspired deco of the US version. Starscream features a shinier deco and nul-ray blasters matched to the main figure's colors. Chop Shop is a darker shade looking more brown like the original Generation 1 toy, and Waspinator likewise has a modified deco with a more muted, shiny green on his body and a darker green on his arms. Check out the images attached to this news post.

That Megatron looks really good.

Cool, looks good. Preorder's up at AmiAmi (same with Sandstorm), so preorder placed for this two-pack.

Megatron is really nice, but Starscream isn't different enough to double dip for me. If they redeco the mold as Thundercracker and Skywarp for a 2-pack I am down as hell.
Stryker055
The deco on Megatron is nice, but totally misses the point of the design.
Maverick Hunter Christian
Now Megatron looks more or less like his IDW Infiltration-era Cybertronian body (some characters have had way too many damn designs in IDW) without the backpack. Shiny, but at the same time, kinda less interesting.

...and yeah, as has been said, kinda misses the point of the molded details.
NemiMonkey
Megatron defintely looks better to me than the US version. Don't really like the darker brown on Chop Shop though. Hasbro wins on that front, although this one could make for a nice insecticon clone. Right now I like that Starscream quite a bit especially since they painted part of the tail fin.

Money is a bit tight right now so probably won't be able to go for this set unless the Yen dips to a favorable low. HLJ link if anyone's interested:

What's te point on getting Miner Megatron without the miner deco?

For people in the US, because it's more "geewun" most likely. But given this is the Japanese release they probably went this route because the IDW comics are relatively unknown over there.

It's definitely an attractive deco, I'm tempted to double dip on this one.

I just want the target master guys themselves, Chop Chop and Waspinator
TCracker
Dat Megatron.

The point is silver and shiny. The point also looks better.

This. My thoughts exactly.

Getting tired of the stupid reasons that we can't see a true G1 Megatron in Classics....I don't like Nerfatron, and the closest we've come is the RTS Legends, which is OK, but those Legends are nothing compared to the new ones, and they still make Megatron a damn tank....

I'm sick of the damn tanks already.

I very much disagree. The Hasbro one was an awesome toy that represented a stage of the character that is nearly never represented. This one's just another silver Megatron to go along with all the other silver Megatrons, with the most interesting thing being taken out.

It's nowhere near as bad as the "DUUR" moment that was them turning IDW Bumblebee into "Goldbug Bumblebee" despite the fact that there is a Goldbug version coming out, but it still misses the point on the figure and I think that's disappointing.

Tanks are far more marketable to children then guns. Also, this is supposed to represent Megatron before he became a tank and was a miner/gladiator.
Yggdrasil
I don't like it. The paintjob makes no sence with that mold.

I'm sticking with Hasbro's true miner-Megatron.
Acteon
It looks better without the unpainted plastic of the US release which, IMO, makes it look unfinished. Shame they ditched the miner scheme, but it does look rather lovely. Legends figures have come a long way of late.
Cha Chi
Now Megs looks worth getting. I'd pick him over Starscream...

EDIT. i didn't now megs design/verse previously but just that this deco is more substantial looking.
More fitting of the megs i think of character wise.
Gryph
Megatron looks nice, but seeing as how it's supposed to be IDW Megatron, I would prefer the proper colors.
megatroptimus
Megatron looks great.
Digilaut
On one hand it's a shame Takara had to go and repaint miner Megatron into the same old G1 Megatron (how boring!)...on the other hand, I'm sure it will convince some people to get it. Some fans might not have liked the miner look or the brownish plastic used for the arms.

So...everybody wins!
webz
Megs looks infinitely better in his typical color scheme over the dull "happy meal colors" of the USA release. It might notbecomic accurate, but I've never read nor care to read the comics, and just want to see an awesome toy. THIS is an awesome toy. Wonder if a bored 3p group will make him a classic style fusion canon. Might have to import this and prime.. Haven't seen anything but soundwave's minions here.
unicronic
Whilst I understand the point of the original IDW deco, this TG version looks great too. Also we know that he eventually chooses the silver paint job as his colors so I see this as the ascension from miner rebel to full fledged leader of the resistance.

This. I'm not disputing accuracy. I like the look better. It's my opinion.
Jalaguy
It's kind of weird that Takara is eschewing a comic-accurate deco on Megatron, considering they previously made their Trailcutter, stealth bomber Megatron and Springer more comic-accurate than Hasbro's...

Well to be fair they screwed up Megatron's fustion cannon by making it red...for some reason. Takara's Megatron + hasbro's fusion cannon/railgun is the ultimate IDW Megatron combination.

Normally that logic'd fly with me, but the fact that they kept their deluxe Megatron in his stealthy black comic-accurate color scheme just makes this seem lazy and unimaginative.
Sumner Sturgeon
I agree with the folks saying that this deco for Megatron misses the point. It's pretty, for sure, but the toy is supposed to represent a specific stage in the character's evolution, of which the miner colour scheme is kind of an important part. Plus it is kinda boring that they defaulted to the usual G1 Megatron colours we've seen a hundred times before, and superfluous shininess does absolutely nothing for me.

I'm with you on that one! Mainly because I could add the two of them to my Insecticon shelf

Although that Megatron does look somewhat nice.
slugslinger2004
I have to agree that this is a nice color scheme, but I prefer the miner deco.

Well, it works for those of us who have no clue about super mining Megatron.
megatroptimus
Japanese fans probably don't know much about the IDW universe either.

...Now I want a deluxe/voyager with this deco for Megatron.
LigerPrime
I have the miner Megs and I'm still going to pick this version up. I don't think we will ever see a decent G1 styled Legends Megs with his 'fusion canon' - this is the closest we will ever get to a 'traditional' Megatron.

I hope one day Hasbro makes me eat my words but I doubt it. It's been years and the closest we have to a G1 Megatron is the Nerf version. Looks like Takara us my only hope for an official G1 Megs.

I say increase him and IDW Optimus to a voyager and pop them into the 2014 simple (5 step) toy line and I ll be very happy.

I know exactly who it is and I like this one better.

Does it seem like Hasbro released these backwards:

Legends:
Origin Megatron (mine worker)
Modern Optimus

Deluxe:
Modern Megatron
Origin Optimus (Oruin Pax)

Thoughts?

Much better colour scheme; thanks takara.

wow that Takara megs is sharp !
Oftentimes I only see slight differences between Takara and Hasbro, but on this release it's night and day.
