In hand look at Device Label Blaster

Japanese site getnews.jp has shared some images from the Tokyo Toy Show of Device Label Blaster. These images give you a much better idea of just how big Blaster is going to be - he is much bigger than a Deluxe, possibly even Voyager Class sized. These images also give us our first real look at the robot's back. Check out the images by clicking on the link above, or the title of this story for our mirror of them.

I've posted the explanation of the delay in the other thread.

We had seen some pics of him from the show but not any good shots like these. Firs pics of his back?

He looks pretty mediocre. I had higher hopes, but will probably keep my preorder
Bgrngod
Wow, he is a lot bigger than I thought. Looks really solid. Eh, am I seeing enough space in that chest to put cassettes?
WhiteMocha
Yeah, not too flattering from the back, and would probably be better without all the flaps hanging off him.... but nevertheless, looks like one of the better Blasters we've gotten (it's just not a high bar, and there aren't many to pick from). He'll still make a good Classics Blaster. Just don't turn him around.

And hey he hold tapes, that counts for something, right?

Looks like me might not come with a weapon, though? If not, I hope those fist holes can fit his G1 weapon. Blaster just isn't Blaster to me without that big rifle with the hole in the center.

Actually, yeah, you're right... he looks a bit bigger than deluxe-sized, doesn't he? Unless that guy has small hands. Looks almost Voyager-sized, maybe? That would be cool, it would feel right if he were taller than MP3 Soundwave.
ckhtiger
all I really care about is that he's FINALLY coming out!

Yeah I though he would be maybe deluxe sized, I'm surprised! A big, boxy Blaster is good for me! I might actually consider him now (didn't bothered after the first pre-oreder cancel, and price increase afterward).
ORIO
I think he looks great! So, I'm assuming he'll be able to hold G1 cassettes? Or are we guessing DL may be coming out with some cassettes for him? Or maybe, do the USB drives fit in him?

Actually, he's been shown to hold the cassette-bots since the earliest photos. The one I use on my own site depicts it in action in the right-hand center panel. Later pics have more clearly shown Steeljaw there.
Thenames9
So this is an actual working laptop?
Superquad7
That head sculpt is GREAT.

Nope, but it is a working USB hub.

ill buy it
but ill be removing the toshiba off his back the moment i get him
Foster
I dig the Toshiba, looks like the very laptop I'm posting on.

Gotta get him, with Straxus imminent.
Chaosbringer
I want a repaint into a macbook pro (twincast)
giga-galvatron
FINALLY!!! Ive been waiting for this Blaster for IONS! Now I need to get steeljaw and Ramhorn and Im good to go! I need to find him a gun
Auto Morph
As a transforming, working piece of technology, then it's all well and good, and I agree with Fosterlager that it is an awesome headsculpt. Best yet for Blaster IMO. But as with music label Soundwave, this isn't a stand-in for the character in my CHUG line-up any more than Blaster's Universe repaint was.
The toes are painful to look at and there is horrible kibble all over the place.

As I say, nice idea, but I'll be passing on him.
baggzey23
do the usb ports work? (as an extension like you connect something to them and you get an extra 3 usb ports)
Chaosbringer
I think this is proof that a bot can have cassettes and still not have a cassette deck mode, i guess the tapes become data storage devices and not actual tapes
giga-galvatron
Im just happy someone remembered Blaster. I was sick of Soundwave getting all the love and updated molds.
openchallenge
all of the explanation of delays is clearly printed on the back of the toy. takara probably has higher standards of compatibility than toshiba. I have no idea how toshiba keeps the doors open, they produce equipment as if the focus is to have the narrowest chance of being productive in the field. this card will only work in the fourth slot of the fith expansion cabinet operating with a motherboard that is yet to be released but will automatically upgrade firmware making the card obsolete. when the desired result is 8 digital lines and two analog lines, stuff that has been common for decades. did they make it too complicated? YES! is it acceptable to have to explain this to the customer who wants the lines to better run his business? NO! did you just waste productive time in the field and look stupid in front of the customer? YES! THANKYOU TOSHIBA!

Oh I forgot about that image. Thanks

I should track down a Rosanna...

My sentiments exactly. I don't mind the litle bits hanging off, it's really the only good update we've gotten for Blaster and I think it's looks great! Glad to hear it's bigger than we all thought as well. Send me one already!!!!!
Jason Blue Boost
Hurray, my pre-order from Robotkingdom will finally ship out this month!
Ops_was_a_truck
Oh man, he looks GREAT. Totally getting that.

AGREED.

I honestly wasn't interested in this before, but if he holds G1 Cassettes well, I'll prolly pick him up.
The_Black_Sheep
From the very first preview pic we saw of him in May last year, I've wanted him ever since. One delay after another pissed me off to no end... but now - he's within reach... If TakTom delay him again, I'm gonna...
G1Wheeljack
Wow, that's bigger than I thought it would be, but I guess they did want it to fit tapes.

Unless Toshiba makes a Macbook I doubt that's going to happen.
MrSoundwaveGuy
eh, I've kinda lost interested in this guy. Looks good but it's outta my price range
DrillBIT
It has a connection cut off problem between the legs after it transforms into robot mode. They rebuild most of the lower body to fix the problem.
I guess the joints nearly killed it. Release date is 7/24, 6825 yen.

Shin Densetsu
VOYAGER SIZED AND FITS TAPES?

CLASSICS BLASTER COME TO PAPA!

God damn it this is great, I hope we get a Soundwave like this using a unique mold. Like a macbook with a Decepticon symbol instead of Apple. Or a Kremzeek symbol.
DJCHARTERS
so glad i have this pre ordered. with all the good stuff coming out ive almost turned into a recluse with all the saving i have to do
bithomas
It seems like Blaster has been in development forever, but the wait may finally be over soon! I'm really looking forward to it, and that's even better news that the toy is probably Voyager-ish scale (I did wonder how they were going to fit the cassettes in a Deluxe-scale mold).
adamthered
Maybe I will one day have money again to pic this up. I had lost interest but the new pics have me wanting it again.
Foster
I had interest, lost interest and cancelled, and now I'm pre-ordering again. Blaster's too iconic and I like Straxus, Piranacon and ML Soundwave too much to not have their foil in my collection!
Angelwave
I don't know why, but the more I see of him, the less interested I become. There's just something about him that doesn't sit right with me. And those new pics from the back don't help.
Acteon
I'm interested but skint. Bad combination.

maybe they can just use the mold and remold some parts, like outercasing of the laptop... they don't have to stick an apple logo on it, just use it has a basis for a generic mac laptop.

folowing that idea, give him a new head, hand gun, shoulder gun, new tape deck door, paint job and call it Soundwave
(YES cause Soundwave deserves tapes too, not a freaking memory card)

(pay no attention to my rambles)
CyclonuS_ZerO
I had this on preorder at Robot Kingdom after the cancellations, but before that last delay. I've talked to them about this already and they say my preorder is still good (it better because I have been billed already). I really hope there is no confusion with this.
Skywave
What would be a very nice addition to this, would be for Reprolabels to create a sticker template for the PC screen, then you can send them your own pics and they print it on the template, ready to use

Seeing this just might have trumped me getting the upcoming SDCC version...but I need tapes! But I still want this since it was first mentioned many eons ago.
Houndvoice
Yeah he looks fine, though I really don't dig the altmode.
And I suspect the delay is due to copyright reasons.

Ions? Really?

Anyway, does anyone know the official reason why the was delayed this much? I didn't understand a word of what openchallenge was explaining and I really doubt the leg problem DrillBIT pointed out (I don't see much change in the pics than the colors...) would delay it so much.

Even though he is an expensive guy, I never cancelled my pre-order and I want him in my Classics crew. Or plugged into my laptop and working!

Remember that this is a hub. There are 2 sets of connectors on each legs and they should be connected in serial and not parallel.
The hip of BroadBlast is movable and it breaks the connection between the connectors in the older version during transformation. Their goal was to keep the connection "live" between the computer and the hub while you transform BroadBlast into robot mode.

My other picture only shows you that the old version from magazine scan has something different between the legs in color when it compares with the one at the Toy Show.
Arcticwave
He's back on again?? I'm so confused...
Jarodimus
So, the take-home message is:

"Blaster -- now with crotch upgrade!"

Ahhh, THAT'S one reason why it looks better. The thighs look slightly beefier on the new version... they poke out a bit past the hip joints, while the spindly thighs in the photo on the left are flush with the hip joint. That small change, plus the black-and red hip plates, really makes a big difference in the look of the figure. It makes his legs look a lot stronger and more proportional compared to the frail stick-like thighs of the original.

Assuming this is actually the case and my eyes are not playing tricks on me, I'd say the re-design was worth the wait!

Incidentally, I wonder how many people actually plan to use this as a USB hub? It seems most people in this thread, myself included, intend to just stick him on their shelf as another action figure. I know my MP3 Soundwave has never played music, and my USB Ravage has never held data...
