Thanks to T_soiya on Twitter, we now have our first look at Takara’s Transformers Legends LG13 Megatron, which is the Generations Leader Megatron figure done up in a relatively similar, albeit a slightly different, color scheme.
Notable differences include the lack of red on the inner arms, the plastic on the joints being cast in grey rather than red, having the orange, purple, and red chest detail paint apps removed, and also having red paint added to the sides of the torso.
Is this small amount of differences enough to get you to spring for the Japanese version of this figure? Let us know after the jump!

Ah, forgot about that. There WERE a lot of upscaled figures recently in those legends-turned-deluxes. And I wouldn't say SIGNIFICANT differences in molding. There are a few details that are different, but when upscaling and creating a different tool, that could be expected.

Care to show a more recent example? 2 figures from 11/10 years ago are in no way indicative of today's business practices. Besides, they are not merely upscaled, and even if they were, they are completely different size classes/pricepoints, which LG-13 is not.
BTW, Beast Hunters figures were also not merely upscaled legends, they just looked like they were, but there were significant differences in molding.
psychography2
These guys would disagree with you.
Sammael
They always measure figures up to their highest point, i.e. the top of tank treads. Figure upscales simply do not happen, the whole point of Hasbro and Takara sharing molds is to split the cost of molding.

I'm glad you know what it's not. Then what IS it?
Lbsammills51
It will not be an upscaled figure.
psychography2
I don't suppose anyone's noticed that the US release is NOT 25cm tall. Either the box is a misprint, they're measuring his tank treads in back, or it's an upscaled figure. While I have doubts, I REALLY hope it's #3…

The differences are few, but I still like the Takara version much better. More G1 faithful.

If class was ultra dull and wearing a tank top, sure, I guess.

HLJ still has some: LG13 Megatron by Takara Tomy | HobbyLink Japan
Some dealers in the US might have him as well, but I'm not familiar with those.

i actually like this color change, much more g1 looking. where can i preorder
DJCHARTERS
If someone does a new cannon for him I'd definitely be in. Also, maybe some clip on shin guards to buy up his lower legs and make them look more gun g1 shouldn't be too hard. I know it would be parts forming but I love his upper body, it's just his legs that I, not keen on.
Rakzo
Yeaaaaah, isn't that implicit?
But seriously, it just looks pretty damn bad. I don't care how G1 faithful Sandstorm might be (is not really because the mold itself doesn't really has much resemblance to G1 Sandstorm), the distribution of colors is awful.
If you want to make orange the dominant color fine, but you at least have to make it in a way that actually looks balanced. It seems like Takara just said: "Eh, just throw a bunch of orange on top of it to make G1 fans happy" without even considering how it would look in contrast with the rest of the colors or figure.
I'm criticizing the complete lack of effort here.

They fixed the only thing that kinda bothered me about the U.S. version, and that's the red hinge at the top of the chest. Not worth an extra $30, but a nice touch!
beardy
In your opinion dude.
You criticize what looks bad in your opinion.
I personally prefer the Hasbro one (much like Megs) but that is my opinion.
As this thread has shown, there is love on both sides, for both companies – I have found it depends what the individual likes when it comes to western / Japanese paint schemes.
I used to love Henkei! Henkei! but I know theres a lot of people who don't. That's not to say they are bad, just different tastes.
Bit like this Megs. Both look cool but I personally prefer the extra colour on the Hasbro one.
Shin-Gouki
I'm just waiting for either Hasbro or Takara to do a G2 repaint of this.
rosewater
I like the more colorful Hasbro version. It makes me smile with all of its G1 toy references.
Rakzo
I criticize what looks bad and Takara's Sandstorm looks pretty damn bad.
Afterburner
The fact that Sandstorm was never predominantly yellow probably had a lot to do with it. Their Sandstorm is a huge improvement over the Hasbro version. The Hasbro Springer was fine though.
TCracker
Looks great, once he is here, I can kep my Hasbro version in Tank mode. Good to have choices.
