Megatron-Robot-22
Next up in our series of galleries looking at the all-new IDW Comics series of Transformers Generations Deluxes is the lone Decepticon in the assortment, Megatron! This Megatron is based on the stealth bomber design the Decepticon leader sported from the "Return of the Decepticons" arc through to the conclusion of Chaos - a design which from its debut in the comics, fans have clamored for a toy of. Hasbro has heard the requests and has given fans what they asked for!

The IDW Generations Megatron is a very nicely designed figure. Cast mainly in black plastic, there is some glitter incorporated to give it a bit of sparkle and keep the toy from being too flat black. The black is broken up by two different tones of purple, and a few red highlights, used sparingly. It is a simple and entirely traditional Decepticon deco, and it works. Scale wise, Megatron is a modern Deluxe size, so a little smaller than his peers from a few years ago, but ignoring relative scale on the shelf - because after all, Transformers toy scale has always been subjective - and you have a toy whose design exudes menace. Megatron is tall and slender, yet broad shouldered. Like Trailbreaker, there is a lack of vehicle parts hanging off the robot mode, everything is ingeniously hidden, with the wingtips detaching and forming the railgun. Poseability is excellent, and Megatron can assume some of his truly iconic poses with ease. Overall, this is one of the best designed Deluxes to come out of Hasbro in the Generations line so far, and even if the size does bother you, I'd still recommend taking a look at this toy - it is very, very good and lots of fun to fiddle with.

After months of repaints and other crap i dont want im going to buy three of these just because is that legends op?
Timesynch
Neat alt mode. Bot mode is.... small. Guess he'll fit right in with FoC figs though.
Ktulu
I'd fall in with the "I wish it was larger" crowd but it still looks pretty cool regardless
C888
Definitely getting the Dreadwing version of this mold.
YoungPrime
Yeah, no.....the size and quality is poor at best. Hell, the black WFC Megatron puts that figure to shame. They really dropped the ball with this Megatron.

But he was short lived in the comics anyway.
sideswipe29
Someone please tell me what the purple shield and sword are from. They're bad-ass.
SPLIT LIP
This figure is right at home alongside the legends.
Darkryt
I expect head-swapping will soon be ensuring between this and WfC Megatron's toy for more game-accurate ones.
Starscream0625
Although a Voyager figure would've been nice, that looks glorious. Just goes to show the level of engineering that Hasbro can put into a Deluxe figure but fails to do so at times. Definitely looking forward to the G2 Dreadwing repaint/retool.
MaverickPrime
I love it!(worried about the stress marks on the legs though) but his design is absolutely gorgeous! And yeaaaah, the size
harrismonkey
The size kills me. I'll probably see him somewhere and get him just because that's a fantastic design. But I really can't take it seriously when he's that small.

I've got the Takara one on pre order, but there's a good chance I may cancel now.

It'll be kind of like how FOC Prime is also pretty much ignored because he looks ridiculous next to pretty much any older generations deluxe.

The only one of this run that won't necessarily suffer for being small is BB.
worldsgreatest
Awesome toy. I don't think the design would be much fun as a bigger size class.
Smasher
I think this is a fantastic design for Megatron that never really got justice.
It was too short lived in the comics. And now there's this great toy that's just too small.

I'm still going to get it though.

I'm sure they could find more details to add if they went voyager.

But I think the complaining mostly is that current generations are just very small deluxes. Old generations deluxes will tower over this guy.

He's Megatron. He's supposed to be big and intimidating.
DJW107PRIME
I'm going to pass on this dude, though if I didn't already have it I'd buy it for the comic. One of Roche's best works since LSOTW, & Spotlight Kup. Kinda wanna see how this stacks up to Toyworlds Stealth Bomber Megs.
Biotoakid
Yeah def putting him with Legends Optimus because I love Megatron towering over Optimus okay
G1Prowl
SWEET!!! I was wondering when Classics Whisper was coming out
grimtnt

Yeah I get it and definitely can't argue. But I've had him and Pax for a while now and can't stop messing with them. Great desk/fiddle dudes.
doomtron
Hes not a sr71 he will fit nicely with the seekers
WarConvoy
He is almost the size of a scout! With the price of a Deluxe.

That's one of the Renderform weapon sets, there was a Heroic Armament set and this one which both came out around the same time.

Not really, he can look Classics Starscream in the eye. Not many Scouts I know of stand that tall.
JetBrawn
fusion cannon still doesn't look like a cannon from any angle, except possibly from the side.
autobot prowl
If he gets Ko'd to voyager size or ultra I will bite. With Hasbro upsizing Legends though I could see a slim possibility of them doing this but doubtful. I will pick up dreadwing though
Atomatron
someone make a trooper head so i can army build!
gothsaurus
The comparison photo I wanted to see is against the G2 black megatron stealth jet! :-D That's where this guy and his blue counterpart are going in my collection. Neo-G2 baby.
bossman328
I picked him up. I like him alot. very cool transformation. I'm a lil bias...I'm a megatron fan
deliciouspeter
Great gallery.

I wasn't sure I'd like it but it's black so I bought it. Yep, it's small, but what I love is that everything tabs together nicely in both modes. No fiddly panels or having to arrange internal junk to get everything to line up.

The gun is really beautiful and a surprising amount of moving parts for such a small part.

I give it seven thumbs up.

It's an anime-style railgun. In the comics, Megs has it when he's in this body.

A shapeways seeker head would sell alot

hmm, this guy is just ok to me. Think that Pax and Trailbreaker are a cut above him...

hope i can find at ross eventually to build

Wish there was no picture comparing to the WFC version. Had I not seen that, I would have been set on the IDW Megatron, but wow, TINY compared to WFC. He does look more like a Cyberverse commander than a deluxe.

It looked nice though. Will get the G2 Dreadwing version instead.
worldsgreatest
Honestly, he's at least two-three times bigger than any Commander or Scout. He's not that small.

In the image facing off with Legends Class Prime, Megatron appears just to be a little bit taller. Not by much. Maybe the depth of the image throws it off.
Sol Fury
It's perspective, I was being a bit creative with positioning and angles to recreate their showdown in the IDW comics. Here's a side on view of the same scene:

Megs is approaching twice the height.
Optimus1138
I'll be very tempted to get it if I can get a good price on it. Looks like a fantastic mold, and quite a fun figure to fiddle around with at my desk.
bradforj
This looks like the butt-baby of Megatron and Skywarp.
