Next up in our advance looks at the next assortment of Transformers Generations Deluxe class toys we have a look at Dreadwing! Dreadwing is the other redeco / remold in the third wave of Transformers Generations IDW Comics pack-ins. He is a redeco of the stealth bomber Megatron, done to homage the Generation 2 Dreadwing ATB (which was itself to have been redecoed as a version of Megatron, so there is a nice bit of parallelism there).

As a homage to a Generation 2 era toy, Dreadwing is bright and vibrant, though fortunately the gaudiest elements of Generation 2 have been toned down for this release. You've got a nice contrast of the dark blue armor on the vehicle mode, and the lighter blue on the limbs of the robot, with some clear red plastic on the eyes and the gun to break things up. Dreadwing works really well as a reuse of the Megatron mold, and is an excellent homage to the Generation 2 toy he is based on. The broad-shouldered feel of Megatron's mold lends itself to Dreadwing, whose toy was fairly substantial and bulky, and the new head helps to distance this toy from Megatron somewhat, although there is no escaping that this is a Megatron remold, particularly with that arm cannon (which can double up as a hand weapon, so there are display options to give Dreadwing more individuality).

Overall Dreadwing is a very nice homage to the Generation 2 toy, and I have to praise Hasbro for going ahead and putting the Generation 2 Decepticon logo on the toy and on the packaging. The toy remains an excellent mold and the new head together with the vibrant deco breathes new life into the design. Very much recommended - and if the fact it is a Megatron redeco has put you off Dreadwing, I would invite you to look again.

I really want to get him, he looks great. I just don't want him to explode like the Megatron version.

Explode?
General Tekno
Wow; I'm impressed just how well the colors line up to the original.

Agreed

He looks great after his diet I like the picture with his partner Smokescreen, all we needs is a 3rd party shoulder gatling missile launcher.
Autovolt 127
Dreadwing is such a better use of this mold than Megatron.

Kinda torn;
Already have Megatron, but this makes a good Dreadwing.

I'll see what mood I'm in.
soymonk
Looks so good. I passed up on the tiny Megatron so this is a nice way to enjoy the mold.
Torque
Dude looks boss, hope Hasbro fixed those issues
mandiprime97
Yep, definitely getting this guy.
Altercron
Cant wait to find this guy. I seriously need the ocmic he comes with as that's the only Dark Cybertron Prelude issue I can't find.
MWG
Too much bright blue on the thighs/upper arms. Other than that he looks fine and I'll pick him up. Still want this mold in RiD Dreadwing colors (just swapping the grey for tan) and using the Smokejumper name. And we need at least one more figure using the G2 'Con symbol.

Hey! You stole my post!
MEGATRON2099
I was not going to pass on this guy cuz i got the Megs and dont really care for him much but seeing Dreadwing by his G2 self really changed my mind
BowserTheSecond
I think he'd make for a decent Slipstream stand in as well. Perhaps a little butch for her, but passable.
Ojunix
Okay Idea
Take the upcoming Armada Starscream Mold & repaint/head remold as Smokescreen with G2 colors/insignia & have the duo back together again (& it would fit the theme)
Starscream0625
A must-have for me, as I do not have to double-dip on the mold.
T-Logicon
This mold suits dreadwing better than Megs. Looks good. Kinda wish I hadn't sold off my uni2.0 darkwing.

Generations Dreadwing with Generation 2 Dreadwing
It's odd how many molded details he seems to share with the original. I mean, I assume Megatron wasn't at all designed with Dreadwing in mind, right?

G2 Dreadwing was going to get a black-repaint and get released as G2 Megatron but that got canceled so that repaint got later released as Beast Wars II BB.

I wouldn't be surprised if Don took the idea from that unreleased G2 toy for the Megs design.

Be perfect if there was a way to shoulder mount the rail cannon.
Bass X0
I hope they repaint Dreadwing into RiD Dreadwind.
Decitron
The gun is not, in fact, illin, nor does he have any missiles that spell certain doom... But he is very chillin. I approve.
Skyclaw
This mold does look better as Dreadwing, but iI freakin HATE HATE HATE that hollow cannon thingy on his arm! It doesnt look right at all.

Nice theory. I'm not sure if that is truly how it came about - ultimately there are only so many ways that you can have a jet turn into a robot, though there is definitely some correlation in the designs. There might well be some inspiration in the Megatron ATB though - there's the parallel at any rate.

I completely agree! If only that were possible this would be even better.

Not a bad robot mode but his jet mode sucks. The engineering that has been shown in the MP figures has made me more critical of the alt modes.
redguyver
I think this mold was made for this guy , should have never been a megatron modeled after Dreadwing in my opinion lol
Neo Tallgeese
Looks really good. Will be picking him up. Looking forward to more G2 homages like Leadfoot, The Decepticon jets, and Scram.
robb0429
Alright fine i'll order the entire wave.
