TFW Generations Springer Gallery

After a brief break we are back with the fourth of the four new Deluxe Class toys in the Asia Exclusive Generations Deluxe Assortment. Last but by no means least, we have an advance look at this homage to Generation 1 Springer, who will be coming to Toys R Us later this Fall as a part of the "China Import" exclusive assortment.

Springer here is a very cool reuse of the Hunt for the Decepticons Tomahawk mold. He features a new head which is modeled on his more recent appearances in the IDW comics. He's also got a new sword accessory which complements his look nicely. The lanky build of the mold really screams "Springer" to me, and while the mold's movie-line origins means this one is not for everyone, my personal feeling is this is an ideal addition to a Classics collection. The design fits in well with the likes of Drift and Wreck-Gar and looks absolutely fantastic in helicopter mode. He will be one worth seeking out once his assortment makes it to the US, if you have not already got him on import.

Open the link below to check out the full gallery, which includes a selection of comparisons with the unofficial Springer toy, the FansProject Warbot Defender, contributed by 2005 Boards member Orodruin!

Wow, warbot defender blows this guy out of the water..

But this one is good for the people who don't want to pay out the ass for warbot however.
bradforj
Yay, another shitty non-triplechanging Springer!

And Hasbro wonders why we love 3rd party?
Sol Fury
I see your point, but I must disagree, I much prefer this to the Warbot. Warbot feels to bulky and clunky, while Springer is a good deal sleeker and more agile in his look. The Springer I identify as being "the" Springer is a thin, lanky Autobot who can leap a mile on his powerful legs - truth be told I get that from an old book I read in my childhood where Springer was featured heavily.

I also do not mind the lack of the land mode, since Springer barely ever used it in my recollection. I can forgive him on that.
Starfire22
How did you fix the feet?
Smasher
Looks good to me.
I look forward to getting him and Wheelie and putting them on my 1986 shelf.
StayingInTheBox
I was excited for this figure, but after having him in hand he just looks and feels goofy. It's a good substitute if you don't have Warbot.

Awesome pics none the less!
Johnator
Meh. It's ok.
FatalT 71
I like the alt-mode, and the bot mode above the waist is pretty good too. The feet really throw it off for me, though. Still... I probably would go after him to add a Springer to my Classics collection.
Neo Vox
Nice work.
Sumner Sturgeon
Wow, those first two posts make me envy the blind.

Not the toy, though. The toy's aces. So's the gallery.

Exactly how I feel...I might go after Warbot....since I'm selling this guy....
GizmoTron
It would be nice is someone would make a Springer that actually matches the animation model. Even Warbot is a failure in that respect.

But for the price of a deluxe and the alternate leg transformation, at least he kind of looks like IDW Springer, so at least it works on some level.
mondo
IMO, movieverse molds should stay in the movie line.If it had a movieverse head, I probably would get it. This head should have been use for a new Classic mold.
Burnout
if the warbot didnt have diecast i would say warbot...designwise warbot is superior but the die-cast in it hurts it. still outta all the recent springer that have come about int he last few years warbot still is the best.
Lt. Faceless
Its a shame,Hasbro can give us triple changing scramble city crap for FoC Bruticus and can't give us a decent triple changing Springer.Easy pass.
artiepants
this just flat-out doesn't work. The cartoony G1ish head on the movie proportioned body looks really silly. (and i really like this mold, you just aren't going to fit the round movie-style peg into a square classics-style hole.)

Yep. This is a great mold but it's terrible as Springer.

Edit: I may get this if one of the PCC combined mode heads would fit on this and still be able to transform...
artiepants
...and i wonder if that head would fit on Universe 2.0 Springer (the awesome Cyb Evac mold) Probably too small...

Evac's head isn't on a ball joint either.
NCStarscream
I want to really like this, but I don't. It's got a lot of great aspects and others...not so much.
unicronic
I've got this figure and it's pretty decent. The price difference between this and Warbot is obscene at the moment. You're looking at (even at local Asian prices) $16 vs $100+.

Warbot is good but he ain't worth $100.
openchallenge
Evac springer is still the best for displaying with classics.
Alpha Omega Trion Supreme
On the last page of a review of the figure in the feedback forum here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transf...pringer-5.html

You can see some fan-modes(yes, a vehicle mode) and fan-add-ons that really do improve the look of the figure. Folding the wings the right way makes a big difference and I especially like the last set of pics showing some heel add-ons as it does a good job of improving the feet. Given how relatively easy it looks to improve the figure, I fully expect a 3rd party set to go even further. My recommendation is to buy him when he's released state-side just for the inevitable 3rd party set. I really do think this figure can be saved from the movie-verse and brought into the classics-verse.
Axalon586
I'd rather just pay the money for something nice and looks right.
Seeker
The head is great but I don't like the rest of him. I was thinking of buying this or Energon Bulkhead but after these pics Bulkhead here I come!
nukedproducts
God forbid Hasbro tries to make a whole new mold for this character.
Omegax80
I like the head sculpt, but I think the Tomohawk mold wasn't the best choice. If they were going to use a movie figure, I would have bumped this one up to Voyager and used Skyhammer.
Backstop
Alt mode looks good robot mode looks like dodo.....
general saberwi
Hmmm.... It's not that good as is, but customizing this is going to be easier than finding an Asia exclusive one and customizing that one. I'm just waiting for fakebuster to come up with a shapeways upgrade set.
Wheeljack_Prime
It still doesn't work at all.
tom servo
Probably would've been happier had this guy been Blades or some other helicopter based Autobot.
Skalor
I like it, and since I've passed on any other Springer versions, or Tomahawk for that matter, this will be a must get for my collection.
vmagnum
Why bother hasbro.why bother
moreprimeland
I like these 'feet' better on this version than the movie copters' (Blaze) feet. At least he doesn't have chicken feet.
I guess for the most part, the legs are getting thinner because of the toy size, he can't be bulky all over and still look like decent as a copter. Just my

I mean he could have had feet that looked like this:

Dr Kain
Leave it to Hasbro to finally release a Springer figure when they have shrunk the figures and raised their prices to ripoff status. Thanks Hasbro. You took your sweet ass time on one of my favorite characters and now, I don't even care that he is coming out, because my Transformers collecting days are over.
rxlthunder
I'm not saying that it is one, but this makes Warbot look like a brick.
Tronis
wake me when they make an actual triplechanger springer...
Ikkstakk
Those pictures make it look better to me than it has in the past, but it still isn't Springer to me. I don't think of Springer as a thin, lanky guy. To me he's got a bulky, "muscular" build. I might pick him up if I can get him for a good price, but otherwise I'll probably pass.
Blitz.
triple change or gtfo
DJW107PRIME
I like the head but thats about it. Might pick it up if I've got some spare scratch.

I don't care for his feet either but, overall not too bad. I'll get him.
Sammael
Other than the head, this thing looks nothing like Springer. For all of Warbot Defender's flaws (mainly related to the legs), he at least keeps the torso, shoulders, and back faithful to G1 Springer.

Legs do not work either, although they can be fixed via modding.
Stepper
A pity that it is not a triple changer
Trailbreaker77
Looks like Hasbro forgot the car mode. LOL
Stepper
Yah,right on,a bit disappointed
snoopcow
they should have used dotm skyhammer for springer
bobbyjack
I will be getting this guy. So glad he will be released here in the U.S. I never had a G1 Springer as a kid. This figure will be just fine alongside Generations Kup, Blurr, and RTS Hot Rod. Now to decide between FOC UM or Prime UM.

This mold is more Classics than the molds everyone touts as Classics from the Movie lines (Bludgeon, Terradive) and I'm more than happy to get this. On a plus, if they do make a better Springer that triple changes, I'll just get the Renderform Vortex head and paint it to match this and be the Battle Gaia Vortex repaint.
