TFW Generations Cliffjumper (Asia Exclusive) Gallery

It's time for another look at the Generations Asia Exclusive / China Import Deluxe assortment, and getting the TFW gallery treatment today is Cliffjumper! Cliffjumper here is one of two figures within the Generations Asia Exclusive assortment whose toys were taken from the Transformers Prime first edition series and given new, Generation 1 styled heads (the other is Brawn, from Bulkhead). It's a crazy idea given how distinctive the Transformers Prime designs are, but sometimes, crazy works, and in this case, it most certainly does. This new Generations Cliffjumper boasts a fantastic sheen on his red plastic, a nice, deep and shiny shade, and the new head manages to fit in with the Transformers Prime body design while still being distinctively Generation 1. My only criticism is he really needs a handgun to further set himself apart from the Prime version of the character.

All things considered, he is probably the least exciting of the four in the assortment, but he does not deserve to be overlooked by any means - especially if you have not been lucky enough to pick up a version of this particular toy before now.

Why are these listed as ("Asia Exclusive) when Hasbro said we ARE getting them? The ("Asia Exclusive") would be the Chinese packaging that we saw pics of, would it not?
Maloknazh
I really can't see that head on that body, it feels so awkward. Like someone hiding their head in their shirt.
Secretcode
Gaaaaaaaaaaah, I'm so on the fence with this one.

Because even Hasbro listed them as Asian exclusives at SDCC, IIRC.
UltimusPrime
I like it and ordered it. Interesting take on CJ.

Gotta love this mold as I now own 5 different versions of it now.
Prowl 2009
Don't like the head/body combo, looks too out of proportion.

Hasbro was calling them "China Import", but for the sake of keeping them easy to identify (namely to avoid confusion with the other Generations Swerve) I figured stick with what the fandom's been calling them the whole time since they were revealed.
Optimus1138
I'm not entirely sure how well I like the Classics-styled head on this body, but since I absolutely hate the normal Prime Cliffjumper head (I still haven't gotten over the lack of noses on Prime TFs), since this will be the easiest way to get a normal FE Cliffjumper, and since I'd put it with my Classics anyway because I'm not collecting many Prime figures, I'll probably get it. I do like the rest of the mold.

Nice shots, Sol! I agree that he would really benefit from a gun of some sort. I gave him DotM Bumblebee's cannon, and it works pretty well for me.

Example from Cliff's feedback thread:

He was my least anticipated figure from the four, but after having him in hand, he's easily my favorite.
StayingInTheBox
I love the figure. It works surprisingly well and is no way the weakest of these "exclusives."

Also: shameless plug $25 shipped within the US.

i dont know about you guys but i love how this looks.
artiepants
Wow, I'm not super crazy about the head sculpt, but it works quite a bit better than i thought, he doesn't look totally out of place with BB...
Hikaru IchijoSL
I think he look awesome I will definitely try to buy him.
Grimlock_13
Sorry, but Prime and Movie toys with G1 heads don't come anywhere close to working whatsoever.

Cliff jumper works better than Megatron, Springer and Brawn though.
soymonk
I can't wait to get this guy! His headsculpt is still a bit funky though.

Too bad the Asia exclusives are TRU exclusives. The closest near me is 25 minutes away and poorly stocked.

1) FE CJ
2) AM Terrorcon CJ
3) SDCC Rust in Peace CJ
4) GDO (this one)
5) ....???

What's the fifth use of this mold. Not calling you out, I just can't think of it and now it's bugging me.

As for the figure itself... I am patiently waiting for RK to get in the Rage if Herc set in so my order with the case of GDOs gets sent. I admit it's imperfect to use a G1 head on this mold, but those pics make it look a lot better than I had anticipated.
charsdc2
I believe him and his other buddies that were Asia Exclusives are going to be Toys R Us Exclusives right????

From what I remember reading a while back, yes, unfortunately.

Awesome pics, Si. 50/50 on this guy!

Maybe counting both Takara and Hasbro FEs?

That looks good, and I love the glow the lighting gives his eyes. I think I prefer that gun on him too, I've got a version of that weapon around so I'll give it a shot sometime.
Blitz.
its warmed on me anyone got any pics in car mode next to the Prime toy? just wondering if the paint aps differ
Autovolt 127
It...It still looks off to me. I'm glad I own the First edition version.

I've only got the first edition (and Terrorcon Cliffjumper from the Japanese line). Not got the mainline one. No difference in paint apps at all, only that much nicer, darker red plastic. Prime FE on the left, this one on the right.

Things I intend to do:
Buy this.
Take the head off, and put it on RID Cliffjumper (aka Angryjumper)
Take Angryjumpers head and put it on my Canadian FE Cliffjumper who has two left legs out of the box (thank you poor QC), and turn him into a Zombiejumper.
Take Canadian FE Jumpers head and put it on the GDO and turn him into a proper FE Jumper. I know the color is slightly different, but it shouldn't be that bad. And I wind up with one RID Cliffjumper with a decent head, one FE with a decent head, and one Zombiejumper with the head that he should have gotten.
cyclonus8
So this is based on the FE mode? I only have the RID one, but this one seems to scale pretty well with the classics in both modes while the RID looks tiny compared to them. Is the FE mode really bigger than the RID?
Autobot78
i wont say why or how, but buy these up along with hotspots, (this is a little gift for those of you who see it)

I've love to be able to say for certain, but I passed on the mainline one. If the RiD is of a similar height to Knock Out, then yes, perhaps half a head to a head taller.
RedAlert Rescue
I've had him a week or so and really like him if you put him with Kup or Jazz his small size really works. and even overall he looks more like Cliffjumper than I realised by looking at him with the original head.

And Terrorcon cliff is adorable too (if decently decorated).

Yeaaahhh... ummm... not too sure about that.
EnerJohn
Asia exclusive...why aren't transformers sold in America anymore???...well, besides millions of Bumblebee's and Optimus Primes. Not that I'd but this CJ anyway...
Crystal Convoy
Yeah...I think I'll have to get this to be my Classics Cliffjumper.
Mr. Chaos
Mmm... nope, not feeling it. I'd rather stick with WFC Cliffjumper.
xMAXIMUSPRIMEx
Looks good, probably will pick it up.
Enigma2K2
Not feeling it.

And the fact that Bumblebee doesn't have a G1 look to his face makes this feel even more ehhh....

OH YEAH He bigger in bot mode and car mode
beangrower
Got a few as well. If anyone wants...$21 shipped to the u.s.
Superquad7
I just got this figure, and I gotta say your photos totally do it justice. I really enjoy all of the varied shots you took as well
cyclonus8
So would you guys say this one is somewhat to scale with the classics cars?

I'd say it's on par with the previous Generations and RtS cars.
madhatprime
I really think the g1 head on this guy is a good idea for a earth-mode Cliffjumper. I currently own the WFC one as my classics Cliffjumper.. I always hated the idea that he was just a repaint of Bumblebee... He wasn't originally that way. In my opinnion the prime mold works on this one... I can't wait to find him in stores.

Agreed, he's just a little taller than Classics Bumblebee, which means a lot to me, since I view Bumblebee and Cliffjumper as a younger brother / older brother pairing. He scales very well with the Classics in general.
Stepper
I still prefer the head mold of Cliffjumper for the Alternity version than this Generation version
soymonk
I wonder how the figure would look with the WfC Cliffjumper head. If the colors of the plastic match closely enough, I'll just perform a head swap if the balljoints are similar.
Meta777
Not a fan of the head on that body, but it is a lovely mold. Cliff's been getting a lot of toys since he died in Prime
jackgaughan
If you can swap the heads of the RID Cliffjumper, and this, then definite buy.
WhiteMocha
I still think this doesn't quiiiiiite work as Classics CJ; the proportions, the forearm and shoulder design, and the rounded thighs are still giveaways that he came from a line with a different aesthetic. BUT, having said that, he works FAR better than I expected him to, and ended up a really nice-looking toy in his own right. He might not be quite "Classics," but he's the next best thing and still a perfectly serviceable fill-in.

Then again, I'm probably not one to talk; I use PRID Bulkhead as Classics Bulkhead and I think he fits in just fine... rounded thighs and all.

I can think of 8 so far:

1. Takara FE
2. Hasbro FE
3. TFP RID
4. Takara AM03
5. Takara AM08 Terrorcon
6. SDCC Terrorcon
7. GDO/Asia exclusive
8. FE re-release Terrorcon

I have the GDO, it's the only one I got among the Asia "exclusives", love the headsculpt, much better than WFC, IMO. Might get Wheelie too when I find one.
Stepper
Now Cliffjumper's mold is surely fully utilised in this case.

Three and four in your list are a different mold. Still, that's six uses...

Anyways, I was initially against this repaint/retool, and while I'm not sure if I'll actually get it, I've definitely warmed up to it. It helps that I like the mold itself. What's keeping me from deciding is....what generation is this supposed to be from? Is it G1, is it Prime, or is it the aligned continuity in-general? Also, I'm either thinking about getting this guy, or the Prime Ironhide figure (assuming Hasbro actually releases that mold as Ironhide...).
