Hunt for the Decepticons Mini-Cons Being Released as Single Packs in the US?

Here's a weird nugget of news for you. 2005 Boards members ScottyP and Counterpunch were out at a "Toy City" store in Cary Towne Center in Cary, NC. They found this guy on the pegs - a single pack release of Iron Claw, from a Mini-Con 8-Pack released in parts of Europe in October 2010. Their thought is this might be a new run of "Market 6" exclusive single pack Mini-Cons - and who knows, perhaps we'll see some of the others from that exclusive 8-Pack turn up?

Ooooh... Maybe there's some hope that places like Ollie's or Big Lots might get these guys..

Sweet, time to hunt.
Superquad7
Oh that's pretty cool

Huh, interesting. I managed to snag the European 8-pack from HighPrime a while back and it's pretty cool. If some of these end up at retail after all that's cool for those that missed out.
rdarkstream
i will have to keep my eye then
WhiteMocha
I'd love to see these trickle into US retail somehow... I missed the Euro 8-pack as well and it feels like an annoying gap in my Classics collection.

The single-packaging of this is really encouraging.
GaussGunner
WOW! New HFTD, good......
zandergb
Where are people getting the idea that these are HFTD? The originals weren't, and neither are these. You can see the packaging
Dinobot Nuva
I'm so down for some of those (ALL) 8 pack Euro-minis.
BigPhill
Nice to see these getting a possible proper release.

They used to be easily avaliable on EBay France, I sent the item number onto many MiniCon fans.
The guy I bought them from had a good few of them, and shortly after they suddenly were in abundance from multiple French sellers.
RedAlert Rescue
I was never able to get a Minicon 8 pack either mostly as I didn't really want to pay over 30.00 and up to $40.00 for 8 minicons (shipped).

I would hope this give me a second chance to snag some now.

As to the packaging that is a complex issue ; each part of the various sub-brands in 2010 had different colour but similarly designed packaging but Hasbro were not that consistent with it so it lead to some brand confusion. I think it's perfectly understandable to see theses as Generations toys - but remember at the time the Generation line consisted of only Deluxes. "Technically" Hunt For the Decepticons is a campaign not a toyline but it's just easier to call them HFTD than it is to call them 'Transformers' or 'Transformers 2010' which is what Hasbro sometimes calls it.

I think 99% of people would call Brawl (for example) a NEST toy and that was a campaign too so if it's OK to call that and Bludgeon and Mindwipe a NEST toy I is perhaps fine to call anything that isn't Movie (including things in Yellow or Red boxes) HFTD so long as it isn't specifically stated otherwise as it would be with Powercore Combiners.

I guess some of it is down to personal preference though and where you see Minicons - obviously some form of Minicon has been released in most (main) lines of recent years including the Powercore combiners and Movie related products.

I guess part of that is also if you see HFTD (Yellow boxes) is a 100% Movie line or a blended line. But if you like to Powerlink them then the only line of that period they are actually suitable for is Powercore combiners - but it's a rare person who uses traditional Minicons with those toys (even though they do work quite well sometimes).

The one shown above for example make a great claw or chest plate.

But i'm not going to shout at anyone as they call something in a red box HFTD.
ScottyP
I didn't hint these were HFTD at all, strange choice of news title. Oh well.
NemiMonkey
Oh sweet, always love them black repaints. Here's hoping they make it to dollar stores stateside.
Fast_Draw
What's the production code number?
Necro Prime
Sweet! I always wanted to pick these littl'uns up. Heres hoping they release all eight.
Autovolt 127
Iron Klaw. All I can say is.

GI JOE EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!

Yeah sure maybe i'll pick some of them up if their decos or molds are any good.

HTFD toys had a HFTD sticker on the bubble. That's where the name came from.

Doing a Google search on the UPC above, I found this (from an online wholesaler):

HASBRO TOY (KENNER) TRANSFORMERS MINI VEHICLES - ASSORTED - Shepher Distr's and Sales Corp.

No other Euro Mini-Cons seem to be in the mix, with Iron Claw being packed with the already-available Swashplate and Drivetrain.

I think it's a legacy argument left over from the fact that the Minicon 8 pack is also in red packaging but isn't marked as Generation - but then neither are some other (what used to be called) 'Market 6' toys either.

Yes I'm well aware of that but it's not quite that simple (mores the pity) what about a UK Sunspot - no HFTD stickers as it was released in the UK after the Online campaign of the same name had ended and before Reveal the shield shiped. Technically and regardless of the name RTS is a direct continuation of HFTD and speaking specifically of the UK the likes of Breacher (with a HFTD sticker) or without and Sunspot (no sticker) and Brimstone (with or without a sticker) and so were all shipped either one after another under the same barcode number or in some cases even in the same case.

This leads to much confusion to those who try to see that family of lines as Movie toys - or Generations/Universe related toys as they don't quite fit that they are both really I suppose to some extent.

But then when you compare Axor to Lockdown and Brawl to Fallback or Mindwipe to Strafe they are similar toys but some still say that one is movie and one is not - And Solarstorm Grappel clearly isn't anything other than a classic toy and HFTD Leader class Starscream is obviously 100% a Movie toys so as I keep suggesting - it's all a bit "Complex".
Nevermore
The Transformers Wiki just calls the line "Transformers (2010)", with "Hunt for the Decepticons" and "Reveal the Shield" being sub-sets similar to "Allspark Power" and "Premium Series" for the Movie line.

Something told me you'd know what was up Thanks for the info!

Holy Cow, I found a bunch of this guy at a Family Dollar over a month ago. I even bashed one into a Supernatural Metallicar several weeks ago. I had no clue that finding him was news.

Yep, must go on a search with the next week or so. NC is pretty close, maybe a few fell off the truck and landed here in TN.

Would be very strange if they only issued one of the 8 pack on a single card.
Speaking of single carded Minicons any one see the silver Decepticon vehicle ones any time aside from in BBTS ?

Those were canceled a few days after BBTS listed them, saying the manufacturer had axed the item. And they weren't meant to be single, they were supposedly going to be packed together in one box/blister.

And now that we know its just Iron Claw, and that a few people have sighted it, I'm on the hunt!

Now that is a price that seems fair... at least in today's market...
MrFX
Oh, so THAT'S what this is about...I stopped by a Dollar General that I never usually go to to pick up some household stuff, and Drivetrain was on the pegs in the toy section. I've never heard of him before.

Yeah tell me about it - speaking as someone who has ZERO DVD edition Microns but wanted them all - I just didn't like having to pay 40.00 or so for each one. (along with a DVD I had no need for - it was only a little more to get a White Chromia (Minerva) boat with a DVD or a red Excillion or the grey Noisemaze.

Shame as there was some colours and teams I really liked but I was not quite so crazy as to spend the hundreds and hundreds of pounds to get them. but at least they were obtainable - the Space Galaxy Destruction team I only ever saw as pack ins with convoy auctions that cost over 90.00 plus postage so all 3 team members and postage would have been at least 350.00 and perhaps more. and then I'd have to try to off load 3 unwanted Micron Legend Convoys... so yes Micron Collecting is a difficult choice. And I luv the little fellas.

I just hope I can still pick the ones I need up from time to time from people clearing their Japanese Unicron Trilogy collections is all.

i sold my Space Destruction team for 500 on ebay in about 3 hours.

I am selling my DVD minicons for about 650 for the whole set. You need to figure each set of three is about 50 bucks. Granted i think if you sold them each on there own you might get 25 a piece for them.

Yep. Many collectors aren't aware that there are some insanely rare and expensive Microns/Minicons since it's a such a niche in our hobby. A little bit of research will open some eyes, though. Gracious . . . .

I'm actually legit surprised your Dragoyell hasn't sold yet. Us Micron collectors are a crazy lot, I was sure someone would've nabbed that by now!
