Yup, they're all spring loaded and pop open - though not sure if it's when the hit the floor/table or leave Soundwave's chest.

Rumble is BLUE!! Finally the debate can be put to rest.

There's a little button on one part of the disc(s) and when you deploy him outside of Soundwave's chest and falls on the ground the button gets pushed and the minion transforms =D.

Quick question from a non-gamer: Do these toys match the colors of Rumble/Frenzy in the game or not? (do they even appear in the WFC/FOC games?)

I don't think they popped up in FoC, but they did in WfC as part of the Soundwave boss fight.

And they went with cartoon colors.

People need to remember that the cartoon is almost THE authority on G1 anymore, certainly the first thing referenced for stuff like colors.

Actually, I'm pretty sure when you played as Soundwave, your special abilities involved ejecting Frenzy and Laserbeak.

Now my comment about the toys: Want! I also decided I want to get FoC Voyager Soundwave now since I was on the fence about him before (despite how neat he looked).

Auto-transform? Ugh, hate that gimmick. In that case, I'll definitely pass on the Decepticon data discs and just stick with the Classics-style figures that have been produced for most of those characters. Still undecided whether I'll get Blaster and/or his disc partners or not.

OK, that answers my question, and reason enough for the toys to follow suit.

They're neat. Definitely buying these along with Soundwave, Blaster and his minions.

They look interesting but pass. Still have G1 cassettes and Universe Ravage dispalyed with deluxe WFC Soundwave.

after seeing the MP cassettes, i can't look past the flaws on these.

however, i wasn't planning on picking up voyager soundwave and i am planning on picking up MP soundwave, so it works out for me.

laserbeak looks really cool though.

They're ok I guess but I'll pass. Too bad, I'd love a decent Ratbat, but I just don't see it. I'll wait for MP's when it comes to cassettes.

am I the only one who's digging an autotransform gimmick on these?

I mean, voyager soundwave/blaster are still going to be the meat/potatoes here, and fully transformable. Getting these extra guys are kinda like upgrade kits for them. Having them just eject like in the game and not have to muck around with a transform is kinda a selling point for me with them. Considering they're meant to be simplistic/fun, and bonus add-ons to a larger base figure.

I don't mind the auto transform gimmick since it's something at least sorta unique. I already have PE and Masterpiece for intricate cassettes. And at this price point I doubt they'd look much better without auto transforming.

Since the automorph seems to remove alot of potential movement, thats a instant minus point right there. I wonder if removing the springs would help fix that..

Just played through FOC. You get to use Rumble and Laserbeak when you play as Soundwave, and Rumble is dark blue in color.

Frenzy makes a brief appearance in chapter 10 when you play as Megatron, he actually looks almost purple with the rather poor lighting, so its hard to say if he's supposed to be red.

Anybody knows which line or version of laserbeak is that that is shown in the picture above the foc ratbat?

I'm kind of wary of the auto-tranform gimmick. In my experience, that rarely brings anything great to a figure. These guys already look like sub-minicon grade toys with dubious alt-modes and weak robot modes. If the retail price is going to be $5 each (or more in Canada) I may give them a pass, to be honest. Though Ratbat is so damn cute, that might be hard to do...

Oh, why bother?

I think the record is pretty clear. Rumble has almost always been red in every version of the toys and media, except for a brief window on the G1 cartoon when he was unquestionably (and inexplicably) purple. For some reason, Hasbro (also inexplicably) has never released a cartoon-accurate purple Rumble, which is what the cartoon fanboys should probably REALLY be begging for.

Anyway, now reversing a relatively consistent 25 years of Red Rumble, some clown at Hasbro is trying to flipflop and subvert history, and the delusional RIBFIR lobby is eating it up. *shrug* I think it's kind of sad, but whatever... another glass of wine and I'll be fine with it.

Or that there IS a gradually shrinking benchmark, but that there are occasional exceptions?

It's kind of a shame that this Soundwave is going to be a bit big compared to everything else, and the Voyager Grimlock will no doubt be too SMALL.

I'm hoping grimlock is on par with this soundwave but I'm kinda confused as to why there is no voyagers Optimus and Megatron

Anyway on topic. I don't know what I think about these guys, on one hand it's a awesome tip of nostalgia to have them revisit this gimmick, but on the other I'm afraid they are gonna be nothing more than a transformers version of bakugahn brawlers.

There is basically no excuse for starting up the Rumble/Frenzy debate unless you are a stone cold newbie. Unless you have literally no idea what will ensue, it's purely mayhem and shit-stirring.

Anyway, the disks look like great fun and there is not exactly a shortage of alternatives anymore if you don't want them to be your tape-cons.

I like what I'm seeing of them so far, and probably require in-hand experience to find out how the spring-transform affects it and form a real opinion. Doesn't look too poseable, but legend/legion guys aren't really known for that anyway. I'm more disappointed that Ratbat is basically just lavender Laserbeak (with ears)

Yeah well I just think he was a poor (borderline lazy) choice on TakTomy's part. It should have been Steeljaw!

Sundor was only an obscure character and a Decepticon spy at that!
