That was a bit prescient!

Give Cyclonus a modified spark Sword instead of that gun and he'd be a first day buy.

thanks for the responses…

Hasbro haven't revealed the toy head in the plastic yet but we've seen art and it's Galvatron
Fan Built Combiner Poll – First Look at Galvatronus? – Transformers News – TFW2005
They're leaving it a bit late to show the toy version considering Cyclonus is due out in Hong Kong etc soon
Vyndication
Both look really good. Kinda surprised that Cyclonus looks so good despite being a retool of silverbolt. I wasnt much of a fan of the Protectobots as a child. With the exception of First Aid. But both of these are instant grabs for me.
Basilisk
Nah the CW figure will be his Armada
Knightsword
Galvatron's

great eye…I agree!
on another note…does CW Cyclonus have a combiner head in his torso…sorry if this has been asked/answered already…if so, what does it look like?
Autovolt 127
I agree 100% but it doesn't change my opinion that Hot Spot looks wicked awesome.
I think this was a genius move on Hasbro's part.
LupisDominus
You are right. I'd forgotten how much they looked alike. And I had Onslaught as a kid too. lol
Screamingjet
Cyclonus looks great- just wish there were some specific limbs for it, e.g. Scourge, hook, line & sinker.
Get me some specific limbs THEN I might be tempted to pull the trigger on this.
….Also a look at the combined mode head would be good. Not artwork, an actual look at the Combiner head/mode.
SPLIT LIP
Ha, you're right! That's probably the entire motivation for them being retools.
Sins of Virtue
Vehicle mode has obvious sacrifices in order to get Onslaught out of the mold, but I think the robot mode still fits his original design. It helps that the original G1 Hotspot and Onslaught already looked similar.

Barring something horrible with the let's switch core member I'll likely get the Hasbro Bruticus. I have a single order for Viper on PO with CP, and he might make a good targetmaster option for Bruticus. Ironic given that Onslaught could look like an old G.I. Joe 'Rolling Thunder'
David Hingtgen
Yup, it's a pretool. The retool was released first, but it's obvious the primary design intent for that mold is Onslaught first, with a pretty good Hotspot being able to be made from it.
harveydent
I think it's the other way around, Onslaught is the original and Hot Spot is the retool. If you look at CW Hot Spot, the alt mode looks more like a self-propelled gun than a fire truck, and the bot mode looks more like Onslaught than Hot Spot
80sforged
I thought hot Spot didn't look bad, it gives me hope for Onslaught being decent. However, I skipped the Protectobots and getting Guardia instead. I am way more interested in seeing how Bruticus turns out.
SPLIT LIP
Except Inferno and Hound aren't the same size vehicle.
Besides, if Optimus/Motormaster and Silverbolt/Cyclonus are any indication, Onslaught will be a heavy retool.
LupisDominus
I kind of hope they don't use Hot Spot as the Onslaught mold. I'd much rather Onslaught get his own, but I don't see that happening.
Hot Spot being Onslaught is..well…that's like making Inferno into Hound

I think Onslaught to Bruticus's transformation will retain the whole "fold out panels" thing as with Defensor, but with Bruticus's head part of the cannon platform instead.
The sides would still fold out to form Bruticus's chestplate, but where Defensor's ladder folds around his torso, Bruticus's cannon's fold over his shoulders – revealing his head in the process – and still allowing Bruticus to rock his iconic cannon-backpack, or something like that. That's my theory anyway.
