Fan-Built Combiner Name and Gender Revealed

Posted on 04-23-2015 at 12:04 PM by Sentinel under Generations / Classics
image THE FANS HAVE SPOKEN!!!

USA Today announced this morning the results of the Fan-Built Combiner Poll and many fans are going to be extremely pleased by the outcome:

Victorion, a new "Combiner" Transformer comprised of six different female Autobots and a result of another recent fan-built poll, is rolling out in the July comic Transformers: Combiner Hunters and debuting in toy form in the near future.

This should come as no surprise to anyone as the boards have been in an uproar these last few months over gender equality and equal representation in the franchise. Many fans have been extremely vocal in their preferences and have demanded the inclusion of more female characters in the Transformers universe and this is a monumental step in the right direction.

We all look forward to these new characters joining the likes of classics such as Menasor and Superion and what these new characters mean to the growth of the franchise.

Be sure to jump into the discussion about the importance of these characters over on our boards.

Possible Combiner Wars Vortex and Prowl Revealed

Posted on 04-22-2015 at 05:55 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Combiner-Wars-Vortex The latest wave of the Combiner Wars Deluxes (Wave 3, featuring the Protectobots) have begun to arrive in the hands of collectors, including yours truly. Two of the pack-in comics have strong hints hidden in them for upcoming releases - namely, a Combiner Wars Vortex and a possible Prowl.

What we have here are a possible remolding of First Aid as Prowl - lineart included in the designer desk section of the pack-in comic for First Aid shows First Aid's body with a distinctly different head. The head has the familiar crest of Prowl (or possibly Ratchet) on it - we're going with Prowl since he was listed in store computers a while back, and is a major player in Combiner Wars. Though it's been pointed out the crest lacks the division in the middle which is distinctively Prowl, so chalk that as one more point in the "potentially Ratchet" camp.

In the Blades comic, there is extensive lineart of the helicopter mode. However, on closer examination, you can see the nose of the helicopter is more angular, the arms of the robot on the sides are different, with no missiles and "tubing" details, suggesting new arms, and the weapon mounted beneath the helicopter is very different to Blades' twin gatlings which he inherited from Alpha Bravo. It's this that got our attention, because the single gun below the helicopter nose is very reminiscent of the one on Generation 1 Blades.

Evidently someone sneaky at Hasbro dropped these two advance looks in as a bonus to fans. Those who were collecting the earlier Generations around 2010-11 might remember Hasbro used to do a similar thing with the instructions. Check out the images showing the potential new Vortex and Prowl attached to this post.

Combiner Wars Deluxe Wave 3 (Protectobots) Extended Bios

Posted on 04-22-2015 at 05:50 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
First-Aid-Comic-Back The Combiner Wars Protectobots have been released in Asia and are making their way into the collections of early adopters everywhere, including yours truly. Like the second wave and the wave 1 repacks, the third wave of Combiner Wars Deluxes come with pack-in comic books, and these comics have extended bios on the backs of them.

You can check out the bios attached to this post, to learn more about the Combiner Wars Protectobots. There's some great backstory in there - such as how Blades honed his fighting skills in the pits of Kaon; or how Rook is a recent graduate of the Cybertronian Military Academy, expert in tactics but still green in field operations; or how Streetwise was once a spotter for a two-man sniper team, and joined the Protectobots in out of weariness for violence, in search of a better way to settle conflicts.

In addition to images of the long bios, we also have attached to this post some images of the comic covers with their awesome artwork, and the Designer Desk sections from the backs of the comics, which include some cool insight into the design process including some ideas for how to equip your Rook with all four fist / foot parts - it seems that the "Hulk Hands" thing was intentional!

Check it all out attached to this post.

TFW's Combiner Wars Superion and Menasor Galleries

Posted on 04-20-2015 at 05:10 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Menasor-with-Combiner-Wars-Superion-1 We've shared with you the individuals in the Combiner Wars line - and today, we bring you the big guns! The Generations Combiner Wars line's first two waves bring us updates of two iconic Generation 1 combiners, Superion and Menasor - and they together form this latest gallery update.

The Combiner Wars gestalts are huge. They dwarf even current Leader class toys when they are fully assembled, and possess a full range of motion. It's not perfect - Menasor in particular struggles a bit with the weight of two extra robots up top, and both have issues balancing in some action poses - but it is amazing to see Hasbro step up and bring us something like this, when just a few years ago it looked like the best we would see would be the Power Core Combiners or the likes of Fall of Cybertron Bruticus. Both have some really nice details worked in, too.

Check out our galleries of this pair of awesome giants - and stay tuned for more gallery updates soon.

For those that may have forgotten, these are 11 inch figures, done in the style of the Cyberverse figures from previous lines. Defensor-by-Genetic-8 Genetic of TFND has followed up his recent run of pictures showing the Combiner Wars Protectobots with a look at their combined form, Defensor! Defensor, much like his original Generation 1 incarnation, looks big and bulky, and he seems to have some sound articulation. TFW's Combiner Wars Motormaster In-Hand Gallery

Posted on 04-12-2015 at 03:20 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Motormaster-Robot-58 Rounding off the Combiner Wars Stunticons, here is their leader, the malevolent Motormaster! Motormaster is an extensive remolding of Combiner Wars Voyager Optimus Prime, to the point that most of his upper body / front of truck has been redone.

Like Optimus Prime, Motormaster is a stocky figure, with solid articulation. The brawny build works for the character, in our opinion, and the remolding keeps him from being "just" a grey Optimus Prime. He's got new weapons - a blade and a blaster - which merge into a larger sword. What we particularly like is the reworking of the Menasor form chest cavity, which features something which just might be inspired by Age of Extinction Galvatron molded in the space occupied by Blackjack when Menasor is fully combined.

Overall, Motormaster is another solid offering in the Combiner Wars lineup. He's brawny and powerful, and has the right kind of commanding aura when displayed with the other Stunticons. Check him out and see what you think:

Generations Combiner Wars First Aid In-Hand Images

Posted on 04-12-2015 at 12:16 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
3ynA9wo Genetic of TFND has come through again, giving the fandom a look at the upcoming Combiner Wars First Aid. First Aid is based on his appearance from the More than Meets the Eye comics, so he'll be a great addition to any collection of Lost Light 'bots, as well as the Protectobots.

First Aid is a remold of the Stunticon, Offroad - though remold is perhaps not a strong enough term, because First Aid here is a complete reworking of the toy, with every single vehicle panel redone, to the point that all the two toys share is the transformation scheme and the accessories - it's that well done. If this is what Hasbro is bringing forward for mold reuses in the future, we say, bring it on!

Check out a selection of the images attached to this post.
