Combiner Wars Deluxe Wave 3 - Protectobots - Out at UK Retail

Posted on 05-25-2015 at 11:33 AM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
27518786d1432552334-united-kingdom-transformers-sightings-image Good news for my fellow UK chums - the third assortment of the Combiner Wars Deluxes, the Protectobots, have begun appearing at UK retail. First Aid, Streetwise, Rook, and Blades were found by TFW members awesomeist guy and Destronus at a Toyland store in the Brunswick Shopping Centre in Scarborough.

It does unfortunately look like the second wave - containing the rest of the Stunticons and Air Raid - have been passed over for a UK release, though reports go they may yet appear as Toys R Us exclusives.

TFW's Combiner Wars Defensor In-Hand Gallery

Posted on 05-21-2015 at 04:04 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Defensor-67 We've shown you the individual Combiner Wars Protectobots - but like any good special team, when they stand united, they become more than the sum of their parts. Rounding out our coverage of this great recent wave of Combiner Wars toys we have the gestalt formed of the five Protectobots - the mighty Defensor!

Fully combiner, Defensor is a solid robot - no hip issues like the Motormaster mold on this torso. In fact, the design of the combiner Defensor can best be described as a "wall" - his silhouette impresses the idea that if this guy is in front of you on a battlefield, he will hold the line no matter what. The individual Protectobots make fine limbs for Defensor, and special shoutout to the new guy, Rook, who aesthetically manages a shape similar to that of Groove, whose spot he took on the team (unless you are in Japan... ). Speaking of Groove, the Legends class motorcycle Protectobot forms a nice optional chestplate that locks in very solidly - no problems with him falling off like Blackjack.

Overall, Defensor is an impressive bit of Combiner, being a nice, big, solid robot, carrying on the excellent work of the individual Protectobots. As individuals or as a group, this assortment is very good - but we could say that of the whole line so far, really. Check out our gallery of Defensor at the link below:

New Images of SDCC/STGCC Titan Devastator!

Posted on 05-21-2015 at 02:13 AM by MetalStorm under Generations / Classics
DevastatorCover PREPARE FOR DEVASTATION!!! New images have come to us from Planet Iacon's Facebook Page of the SDCC/STGCC Exclusive Titan Devastator! This exclusive is sporting chrome paint, as evident on Mixmaster's cement barrel, and box design is awesome as well. It features a slip cover with Devastator's face on the front, and box's cover has Scrapper's shovel as the front flap!

The back of the box features a cool bio for Devastator:

DEVASTATOR is a raging hammer of chaos, battling conflicting voices in his head one nanoklik, then crushing his targets the next. He is the perfect weapon, held back by one imperfection: the circuit-clogging conflict caused by bots unable to wield the very power that they themselves bring to life. The CONSTRUCTICONS struggle to successfully merge their thoughts into one cohesive action, making it difficult to focus the wrath of their combined form. Were they able to harness the full force of their collective power, they would give the DECEPTICONS a weapon capable of pounding entire civilizations into dust. As long as that threat exists, DEVASTATOR will loom as a shadow across the universe, an enemy the Autobots - and all the worlds they protect - must fear.

"Prepare to meet your doom. Nothing can withstand the might of DEVASTATOR!"

Combiner Wars Leader Ultra Magnus Released at US Retail

Posted on 05-18-2015 at 05:25 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
11327197_103027500033241_147467507_n We've got several sightings of the duly appointed enforcer of the Tyrest Accord at US retail - yes, it looks like Combiner Wars Leader Ultra Magnus has arrived on store shelves. Ultra Magnus was spotted in all his IDW-inspired glory at a series of Wal-Marts in Texas, including two independent reports from the Luis Henna Walmart.

In a slightly bizarre, but not unprecedented twist, it seems that Ultra Magnus (who is Combiner Wars Leader Wave 3) has actually managed to beat Thundercracker (who is Wave 2) to store shelves. This happened a year ago with the latter Generations Legends class assortments, so while unusual, it is not completely unheard of, and there is a possibility Thundercracker is also in the wild but simply not confirmed as yet.

The stores to check are Wal-Marts, particularly if you are in the Texas area. Happy hunting, Transformers fans!

TFW's Combiner Wars Hot Spot In-Hand Gallery

Posted on 05-15-2015 at 07:30 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Hot-Spot-Robot-33 Our next new Transformers toy gallery is giving some love to the Combiner Wars Voyager class wave 3, and the Protectobot Hot Spot! A new mold, Voyager class entry into the Combiner Wars line, Hot Spot is the leader of the Protectobots and forms the torso of the giant, Defensor!

Hot Spot's fire engine mode is pretty cool. It's a more modern take of the original with its curved front end and updated ladder design. One flaw is that the robot mode hips are expose in this mode - but given the transformations, there is not a lot that can be done to hide them, really. The robot mode is nice and solid - while it lacks a waist joint, there are lots of cool poses you can get out of Hot Spot, and his robot mode design nicely recalls the original toy, while bringing some new stuff to the table. The twin rifles can be combined into a single larger gun, although there's no real way to escape the fact that, yes, he's basically just got two guns plugged into the end of each other in this configuration.

Overall, Hot Spot is a solid figure to round out a fun classics-style Combiner group. He makes for potentially the best torso in the line yet, but we'll go into more detail on that side of things soon. For now, enjoy the gallery of this hot new Voyager class offering:

TFW's Combiner Wars Rook In-Hand Gallery

Posted on 05-12-2015 at 05:00 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Rook-Robot-10 Rounding out our in-hand gallery coverage of the Combiner Wars Deluxe Wave 3 is the newest member of the Protectobots, Rook! A graduate fresh out of the academy, Rook is an all-new character on the team, taking over Groove's role as a limb of Defensor. He's also the sole new mold in this wave of Deluxes (not that it is immediately obvious given some of the extreme remolding his wave-mates got).

Rook is a solid new Autobot, and he's a lot of fun to pick up and play with. The robot mode is a fairly brawny guy, built like a quarterback, and gives the impression of power when he is posed. He's got ankle-tilts, a real boon for posing. The hands feature 5mm ports on the fronts of the fists, done to look like cannons, which is cool and it allows you to plug weapons into the front of the arms, including the combiner form fists for a power-loaded exo-suit feel. However, this also means Rook lacks traditional 5mm fist holes, and therefore does not get to hold a blaster like most other Transformers. The vehicle mode is a SWAT armored response vehicle, which partners well with the theme of the Protectobots and Streetwise in particular. Like the robot mode, there are a bunch of sockets on the vehicle mode to allow you to arm it however you choose.

Overall, Rook is one of those extremely fun toys who you can have a lot of fun with picking up and changing around all his weapons. Check him out and see for yourself:

Generations GDO Cyber Series Preorders

Posted on 05-12-2015 at 03:20 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
372dd28f50569047f5544405bc672766 Our sponsors Robot Kingdom have put up preorders for the Generations GDO Cyber Series. These 8 and 11-inch tall Transformers take the "big, simplified Cyberverse style toys" concept initially trialled on the final assortments of the Transformers Prime Beast Hunters line, and applies it to the likes of Generation 1 styled Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Starscream, Megatron and Grimlock (who, coincidentally, are the five toys in the 8-inch "Battalion" series, there's also the 11-inch "Commander" series that has Optimus Prime and Bumblebee, using different designs to the smaller ones).

This series is out now in emerging markets such as Latin America, but now via our sponsors you can get a piece of the action!

TFW's Combiner Wars Blades In-Hand Gallery

Posted on 05-11-2015 at 05:00 PM by Sol Fury under Generations / Classics
Blades-Robot-14 It's time for more Protectobot love now with our third gallery from Combiner Wars deluxe wave 3, and this time, Protectobot Blades takes the spotlight! The rescue helicopter is a remolded Alpha Bravo from the Aerialbot team, and unlike Streetwise and First Aid, the changes here are limited to just a new head - but when the body is already a perfect fit for Blades, it's understandable.

Blades has a nice, slick, red deco to him, which makes him stand out among the otherwise uniformly white Protectobots. It's a really nice, rich shade, too. As he's pretty much a straight redeco of Alpha Bravo but for the new head, there's nothing shockingly new in terms of articulation - just one extremely nice looking toy.

Check out this sharp Protectobot for yourself in our gallery:

Hi-Res Pictures of Takara Legends LG13 Megatron

Posted on 05-11-2015 at 12:54 PM by Calabask under Generations / Classics
LeMe1 And boom! Finally after a long wait Amazon Japan has granted us our first hi-res pictures of Takara's much anticipated Transformers Legends LG13 Megatron, which was spotted by TFW2005 user Type-R. While Megatron is significantly less sparkly in this deco, he seems to be a little bit more uniform with much less red than Hasbro's take on the iconic Decepticon and overall, it seems to flow very well. Check out the pictures and discuss, after the jump!
