Get those salt-shakers ready folks, because we have a very interesting – and unusual – item for you today.
As you can see to the left of this image, that is a fully gold chromed version of the legendary Fortress Maximus – the largest Transformers toy ever released. He originally hit stores in 1987 as the centerpiece of the Headmasters line, and has since gone on to command high prices on the secondary market. The mold has been reused a couple of times down the years, including Brave Maximus in Car Robots – also known as Fortress Maximus in the series Robots in Disguise.
Which brings us to this strange piece. It is on display at Cybertron Con in China alongside many other items including the prototype for Masterpiece Rodimus Prime. While it is tempting to write this off as a bootlegger getting a bit over-enthusiastic with gold chrome, it is on display with the other official Transformers merchandise – which you can check out here on ACToys.
UPDATE – 2005 Boards member DrillBIT and several other members have pointed out this new image. For those that cannot read the caption, it explains that this is a fan made custom item and not an official piece. The fan who created this awesome piece brought it out for display at Cybertron Con for his fellow fans to enjoy.
So there you have it. It’s a custom, not an official piece, and doesn’t hint at a reissue or anything.
It’s still extremely cool though, so enjoy the pics by clicking on the title of this story.

damn!
that thing be a toy god!

I donno why you think people would make a killing if they did this. Several people in china are chroming g1 items and they don't make a killing at all, robitcplanet posted a link to someone who has been doing this kinda stuff.
Thundershot
Hell, anyone with a half decent Fort Max and some cash could do this and make a killing. You needn't even use a minty white one. A worn yellowed one will do.
BlueAngel_Bolt
Possibly a good 20-50 grand at least! maybe more! O.O
DrillBIT
Actually the card says the guy have 2 of those chromed. This one on display is one of them.
grimlock1972
ah still an impressive piece and it could not have been cheap to chrome at all.
Sol Fury
Quoted for being the true account of what's going on here. It's a custom guys. A very, extremely cool custom, but it's a custom, not a toy getting a mass release, and not a hint at a possible reissue as much as we all wish it would be.
MC.Paddington1
My god. Imagine how much this would sell for.
yankee_z
The big guy is DIYed by a fan with an authentic G1 Fort maxismus. It is said only 2 were made and this time is exhibited as fan art work on the cybertron CON.
Absolutely has nothing to do with luck draw, reissue or KO.
TF@TM
Nope the G1 "lucky draws" were the gold Convoy statue, the Silver Chromedome statue and the TF-JR giftset, all have been well documented. The internet may not have existed back then but collectors did and the magazines still do.
This piece is not a legit item for the reasons others have mentioned, it is fully chromed. The only fully chromed official item is the gold leader class Convoy figure that was turned into a statue, all other items are designed to be changed and so use plastic on the joints (not the case with many fakes which is one of the ways to tell the difference). The piece is certainly well made and fan creations are often on display at Prize items are toys form the main lines that are out at the time which is why this years theme is Animated.

Hey! We're all excited, but that's taking it too far.
DrillBIT
This picture says some fan paid someone to chromed the toy. So this is not for lucky draw.
He brought that out for display.

Come on reissue of Fortress Maximus
VitaminZinc
If they did reissue this, I can almost say I'd be kind of pissed off if I opened the box and it was gold. I mean, it'd be awesome for resale, but then I'd have to get another one that WASN'T gold.
Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, though.
kdog
knock off or real I dont think taraka or hasbro would pass on a chance to display this big ass piece of aka fort knox
Emperor Zarak
O_O…………….Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey
BB Shockwave
Couldn't this be a Lucky Draw from 1987? You know, when the internet was not full of TF forums and news from Japan did not reach us in time?
mac&cheese
HAHAHAHA! thats a good one! but arent we getting a ko reissue as said a while ago? i mean real would be best. but any is good for me.
