TF@TM:
The USPTO website was updated this morning with two more new Transformers trademarks.

CONSTRUCTION DEVASTATOR - 76689207
OPTIMUS PRIMAL - 76689205

You can see more and read our report here.
Locustreign:
Primal says to me Universe. Devastator... maybe animated? since they've already done a Classics one, even if it was a repaint. Or perhaps TFTM2?
shroobmaster:
Well seeing how the Constructicons in Animated ain't going to combine, it's probably for the movie/ 25th Anniversary
Laser_Optimus:
Devastator? That sounds like it could go in Animated (though we've seen no proof that the two Constructicons will combine in any way), but I'd say it's possible it could be for the upcoming movie 2 line (how far out do these things get trademarked anyways?).

Optimus Primal? That just screams Universe to me, but it's kind of strange because I figured he probably wouldn't get a Universe release due to him already getting an update during the BWX line. Though, I suppose they could be going for something more show accurate?
Omegus Prime:
Methinks everyone is forgetting Optimus Primal is due for a release as a Robot Heroes figure. Devastator in the same series would be cool... but of course I'm hoping for better.
MaikeruSan:
Well they said Primal was a mabey in animated so yeah. Devestator I have no idea I dont see it in universe due to the repaint in the normal classics line. Movie mabey, Animated mabey.

Good point. Still, I'm really hoping for a show accurate update of him... but you're probably right about Primal. A Robot Heroes Devastator could be cool and Hasbro did mention they were looking into doing the 'Mega sized' figures ala the Marvel Superhero Squad sets...
LightningZERO:
Nice! I hope Optimus Primal will be in Animated! Or maybe some nice Universe new mold or repaint!

Well considering we've already gotten a Robot Heroes Unicron at normal size I'm not sure Devastator would even be mega sized... But that would be a cool way to do some characters, city formers, combiners, etc. (I want Metroplex!)
DecepticonsRule:
Optimus Primal says to me Universe, while I think that Devastator would be movie. If they added the prefix "Constructicon" to Devastator, it could solve the name problem they had with the first movie.
Strikeback:
If Devastator is for the movie, they'll probably call him "Brawl" onscreen.

Here's a thought--could "Constructicon Devastator" actually be a third Constructicon in Animated rather than the gestalt version?
Lord Of Tetris:
Was there really a risk of another company producing a toy named Optimus Primal?
G1Wheeljack:
Hm, what is Hasbro scheming now?

Not really, but I think they have to renew all the names--Optimus Prime & Megatron included--on a regular basis "just in case."
jcard2005:
My first thought that came to mind when I read "Constructicon Devastator" was a 25th Anniversary Reissue of the G1 Constructicons.

I could very very wrong on this. But it would be neat if it was true. Hasbro did use this mold twice during the G2 run so it wouldn't be a stretch to use them again this time around.

I'm also going out on a limb and hoping we get a G1 Bruticus reissue from Hasbro for the 25 Anniversary. They definatly have the molds since they used them several times in the R.I.D and in the universe line
sixshot2K:
I hope Devastator is for the movie
Ravenxl7:
Hmm...both are probably for the Universe/Classics/25 Ann. line, imo. Optimus Primal is getting a Robot Hereoes figure, and they have shown interest in doing larger RH's, so that could be Constructicon Devastator.
butz:
Robot Heroes; just about willing to bet on it. I'd welcome either of them in the Classics category of Universe though.
Dropshot:
I would love to see Primal once again, I love the mold, the character, but something like the Robot masters version or a twisted look like the 20th anniversary. If he makes an appereance in animated it woul be aesome.
Lion:
Id love to see a 25th Anni of Devastator. I could live without Bruticus since hes been redone in just about every line. Devastator has always been my fav and everytime he has been "re-invented", its been a big let down for me. Id love to see some badassery paint scheme with either slight battle damage or basically dirty vehicles, articulated joints and (or options for different) hands....maybe one holding a mini hot rod, and a cool base
Basketball Jones:
Was there really a risk of another company producing a toy named Optimus Primal?

Why don't you ask Trailbreaker and Motormaster?
dark69:
i wish they both wear in animated
Locustreign:
Let's go for 25th Anni Masterpiece Devastator
In scale with the other MPs, naturally.
Kimmer:
please let this mean a constructicon boxset in the near future. i hope to god it had nothing to do with tf2.

But Hasbro don't produce toys called "Trailbreakest" and "Motormastered" on a regular basis. Someone trying to make an "Optimus Primal" toy would be laughed out of court for impinging on the "Optimus Prime" trademark (="confusingly similar". Bumblebee was offlimits for yoinks because of a toy called "Buzz the Bumble Bee").

"Homewrecker class" obviously.
SPLIT LIP:
I think these are both for Robot Heroes. Well, we know Primal is, and Hasbro did say they were going to try and incorporate big RHs. (Devastator being one already mentioned)
CripNite:
It's "CONSTRUCTION" Devastator, not "CONSTRUCTICON".

Odd.
Soundwave84:
wow so will we get a 25th aniversary optimus primal id like to get a 25th aniversary bot from each generation that has come out

Yeah good point.

And for those thinking Universe for Primal, didn't they say no beasts for universe?

Tell that to 25th anniversary Cheetor. Still, it probably is for the RH Primal.

The 25th Ann. part of the overall Universe line can get away with it, as it's celebrating all 25 years of TF's, including Beast Wars, instead of just G1. You're right, it probably is for the Robot Heroes Optimus Primal that we're getting.

True enough, but I think the whole thing with Unicron was due to them not really knowing how well the Robot Heros were going to do sales wise and not wanting to invest too much into it yet. At Botcon Devastator was one of the ones particularly mentioned for larger Robot Heros so it wouldn't surprise me (and, yeah, I'd love some Citybots too!).

That's their intention, yes, but from what was shown (and said) at Botcon they already have Cheetor (he's already done and ready for release early next year for the 25th Aniversarry part of Universe ) and they really want to do Dinobot & Blackarachnia. They said that they would have to sneak beasts in slowly as (because of the hit the movie was) the higher ups want nothing but realistic vehicles (which means guys like the upcoming Cyclonus w/Nightstick also probably have to be snuck in slowly).

Though, I agree that this Primal is probably going to be a Robot Hero just based on the fact that we know there is one being released and I seriously doubt that Hasbro is looking to do another new mold Primal for the 25th Aniversarry when they just did one for the 10th Aniversarry of Beast Wars.

Again, they mentioned that they had to sneak them in slowly due to the higher ups narrow mindedness (totally paraphrasing that btw) as it's still under the Universe banner.

I believe it was mentioned that within Universe during the 25th Aniversarry you're going to see various sub-banners under Universe. Examples given were 'Universe Classics', 'Universe Armada' (obviously for Hot Shot and anyone else they choose to do) and 'Universe Beast Wars'. At some point Beast Machines and RID was also mentioned. I'd expect one new mold from every era at least to be under the Universe banner and there is definently potential for more than one each. Frankly, I'd love to see Universe be more than just 'G1 redone' because there's more to the Transformers Universe than just G1.
lookinglasself:
Universe Devastator, please.

In a similar veing of discussion, Hasbro themselves have jacked names of brands from other companies to muscle out the competition.

Back in Universe (2003) Hasbro trademarked 'Machine Robot Rescue' as a sub-group for Universe Ratchet and Inferno in a blatant attempt to foul up any potential plans by Bandai to import Machine Robo Rescue. It is unknown what effect this had as Bandai didn't import that series anyway.
Runamuck:
So, I guess they can't use just Devastator.

Also, sorry if this is a stupid question but what is the difference between ™ and ®?

Well, one is trademark and I believe that the other is copyright. Not entirely sure though.

Yeah, I know....I was just wondering what was the difference between the two when you see them after a name.
GrantB:
Here you go, Runamuck:

From wikipedia:
Quote:
The ™ symbol may be used when trademark rights are claimed in relation to a mark, but the mark has not been registered with the government trademarks office of a particular country or jurisdiction, while the ® is used to indicate that the mark has been so registered. It is not mandatory to use either symbol, although the force of convention is such that the symbols are widely used around the world. In some jurisdictions, use of the ® symbol is highly advisable (provided that the mark is actually registered) as it can help in claiming damages from an infringer if the trade mark has to be enforced through the relevant Court. However, in various jurisdictions it is unlawful to use the ® symbol in association with a mark when that mark is not registered. Either symbol is typically placed in the top left- or right-hand corner of a mark.

That's incorrect.

™ is trademark. ® is registered trademark, representing a higher level of protection and as such, costs more money and takes more work.

Copyright is different to trademarks.

Here's the TF Wiki's article on trademarks

EDIT: Darn you, GrantB Oh well, at least my link explains things from a Transformers point of view.

Ah, thanks guys. Apparently I was misinformed as well.

I know. I remember reading it in one of the Botcon threads. From what I got from they way it was said, is that they were a little surprised they were able to get Cheetor into the line (at least that's how it sounded to me). Hopefully their able to sneak a couple other beast-mode TF's under the radar. Would be kinda nice to see some Classics-ish Dinobots made for the 25th Ann. line, though how likely that is I'm not sure.

I see, I guess I took it differently as they had also stated that they'd like to get Blackarachnia and Dinobot in as well. To me it sounds more like a when and not an if... if you follow me. Still, could go either way I suppose.

Also, I second the notion of a set of 25th Dinobots. That would be awesome.

They'll still try and get more of them in, but from the way I read it, it sounded as if they were surprised that they had got Cheetor under the radar, so they'll be attempting some more. I can't really think of any Beast Wars characters I would like to see, but a Snarl and Sludge would be nice. Swoop and Slag would be nice as well (make for a nice group shot with Grimlock), but if we were only able to get two of them, I'd rather those be the two, as Swoop and Slag are getting updates in Animated. That way all 5 of the Dinobots will get some sort of updated figure in the next two years (even if they are different styles).

if this is what was to happen my life would be complete
a devestator in the 25th aniversary line would also be awsome or for tftm2

Rayzilla Prime:
Devastator is going to be in the movie-sequel line most likely, since they said the Animated toys won't get to combine. If they haven't made a Robot Heroes Devastator (I don't collect them, so I wouldn't know), there's a possibility.

Primal will be a Robot Heroes figure because we've already gotten the Primal vs. Megatron 2-pack, so no remakes of Big Bot, unless we get a re-issue of Bat Primal.

If my memory is correct, Optimus Primal will be packaged with Tarantulas, not Megatron. Megatron will be packaged with Rattrap.

Where ever they end up I'm glad to see their names secured...
