What I'm so impressed is that he looks so much like his cartoon counterpart - especially in Dinobot mode and nice touch by TakaraTomy by giving him a crown which he wore in the MARVEL comics!!! How cool is that?!?!
Golden Age:
Haha, crown in dino mode is a nice touch. The size issue is disappointing, he had better have lots of diecast to compensate.
dark69:
he just looks better and better!

Anyone got a size chart of how big Grimlock is supposed to be compared to Prime?

With the expense of doing an MP mold, and the limited repaint possibilities for Grimmy (will they really try to make a Trypticon or Overkill out of this?), I foresee a U.S. release- especially with the Marvel Comics crown. So, no pre-order for me, as I'll happily pay $50-$75 later for him.

Paradigm-Shift Prime:
Nice comparison shot with G1 Grimmy.
I dunno, something about him looks 'wrong'. I think it's that his mid-body in alt mode is too long and narrow. That combined with the way he sits kinda makes him look like a...a dildo?

Well, I'm glad I pre-ordered it as soon as I could, because this is shaping up to be an awesome toy. I'm going to have to put his classics counterpart back into storage when this thing comes out, but given the mediocrity of that figure, I'm not too concerned. This Grimlock looks like he'll be almost perfectly in scale (at least cartoon-wise) with the classics figures.
Bgrngod:
Grim looks great. VERY much in-line with the G1 look, which is what I like. I still find it a bit odd that everyone is complaining about the size. He appears to be about the same size as MP Prime, but "fatter". This would naturally drive up the costs a bit.
I also like the point that Omegatron1 made about the slim possibility of this mold getting reused and seeing a US release to try and make more money off it. That makes sense and I hope it does get released here (although I already have a pre-order down for this one). However, Megs never got a repaint or US release did he?
I wonder if Soundwave is next in line for the MP treatment?
The Megs Alternity sketch is interesting too. Although it seems that the body may be too similar to Prime. Did I miss something here? I thought they were supposed to be different cars? I don't know enough about cars to know if the two they represent are almost identical or what. It's odd seeing a Megs head on a car'ish body....

I preordered, but might cancel.
The price to size ratio is shitty, and that's compared to other figs in the same line... | i dunno, the way i'm lookin' at it even if shorter then MP Convoy, he should mass more...

Hikuro:
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting megatron to be a 370Z, I thought he'd be a 350 since it said Fairlady, guess they're doing one for the new 09 model as well.
Baird:
I wonder if he's sitting down in the picture with Classics Prime, because in the other pictures he seems much bigger. I reckon there is a good chance he will be MP Prime size.
Rodimus Mike:
I just say that MP Grimmy get more kicka** every time I see him,and I was one
of the first to preorder him sight on scene back last month. And even tho we have
not seen his full color version yet I still know what he's gonna look like in my head,
and I also say after I get my preordered one I may go back and get a second one
just so I can say I have 2 of that Hot Dinobot Leader.Hurry up Tak/Tom and release
him,I'm dying for my Grimlock Fix.
c717905:
Personally, I think he is damn near perfect. I think his size is great and I am not sure what people are complaining about. I do agree that something about his legs in bot mode doesn't look quite right, he looks like he is sitting on his arms instead of legs, but after looking again, I think his arms are mis-transformed. I would bet $$ that thye slid back to be more centered on the dino-torso. If that is the case, then he is perfect (pending another MP-03 SS coloration fiasco).
I have had him pre-ordered since the listing went up on BBTS (before the pics surfaced) and I am really really glad I did.

However, Megs never got a repaint or US release did he? | There's a good reason MP Megs didn't have a US release, US toy laws about realistic guns. I know some countries have a rule about the size difference between a real and toy gun but not sure about America. Oh and I do smell a blue G2 version of Grimlock popping up at some point
I think I'll sit this one out and wait for a US release, if it happens, if not no big loss for me.
Some people seem to be missing the point about scale, which they often do.
Scale for some is height of robot modes and other see it as the size of a real T-Rex compared to a flat-nosed truck, which is the proper definition of scale. In the case of the latter a T-rex would be much much taller than the truck and therefore the bot modes would be different too. I personally think people are right on in thinking that MP Grimlock will be more in proper scale with Classics but so would the MP Seekers. On the other hand you have G1 cartoon scale in which almost anything goes
I'm diggin' the head sculpt on Megs though. I got all the new "alty's" pre-ordered, great scale to fit with Classics, hopefully the aesthetic of them doesn't stick out like a soar thumb though. Now that I think of it they are in more in scale with MP Grim and the Seekers, go figure
IronhideTF:
That Alternity Megatron is the 370Z!
Shark Jumper:
okay looking at my g1 grimlock and that pic, he looks about two grimlock g1 tall + a little more height (unless this is the wst version they used in the pic).
He should be around Prime's height, maybe shorter, but here's hoping taller.
kllrwlf:
Woot! Got this bad boy pre-ordered. OMEGAPRIME1983:
wow, I dont mean to be rude, but if you go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllll the way back to when MP-01 was released and we were getting the comparison pics of him with his G1 counterpart, it was about the same as Grimmy here. This figure is about 2X the size of the G1 grim. Which mean going by G1 size comparison of Prime and grim, the MP Grim will be either just as big, or possibley a little bigger than MP Convoy. Seriously, think about it.
BustaJesse:
Can't wait until March.
Soundwave84:
Yeah will prob be the most money i have ever spent on a TF ever def getting this one.

Question:
what is that tube that i see in the one inset picture on the left for?
i don't get that one or am i looking at it wrong?
aside from $$$$, i kinda like this Grimlock.

im just wondering if grimmy still has his gun or not..
starscream.pt:
the crown and hose thing is hilarious, seems like we are not going to get metal
D Banks:
MP Grimlock is AWESOME, everytime new pics are reveled i like him even more, now knowing how HUGE his dino mode is next to G1 Grimlock it makes me like him that much better, I was really excited about alternity Prime until i saw these pics, hes really small, but it also makes him more interesting knowing how complicated his transformation looks, and as for fairlady megs, I need to see more pics, those half body sketchs arent gonna do it for me, but everything else is awesome, Takara Tomy is going for Gold next year.

I got out some of the toys shown in the magazine page to get a better idea of MP Grimlock's size. I just wish there were some comparisons which used Grim in robot mode. Anyway, I came to some (admittedly rough) conclusions.
* MP Grimlock in upright dino mode is taller than MP Starscream.
* Robot mode is probably shorter than dino mode (standing full upright), though not by a lot (maybe coming up to about the neck.)
* My guess is MP Grimlock's robot mode is of similar height to MP Starscream, (confirming earlier info) maybe a bit taller at the head, and more massive overall.
* No way is Grimlock as tall as MP Optimus Prime in either mode (unless Optimus is in truck mode )
Yeah, I'll be getting this thing.
catch22:
MP Grimlock looks like his dino mode is a little over twice as tall as G1 Grimlock, which would put his dino-mode at 10 or 11" tall. MP Starscream is ~ 8.5" at the top of his head, so he should be taller than MP Starscream.
If his transformation is similar enough to the G1 toy, he should gain a little bit of height, which would put him around MP Prime's height (well, a little shorter)

I'm so sick of morons claiming MP Grim is going to be taller or "massier" than MP Prime, trying to justify the price.
Here it is folks, proof positive. It's going to be roughly the same size as MP SS!
catch22:
You're welcome, though I'm not sure you read what I wrote. The 9" line I put in there is representative of what G1 Grimlock's height is doubled. MP Grimlock appears to be a little over double G1 Grimlock's height, which would put him at 10-11" tall, which is taller than MP Starscream's 8.5" height. Given that his transformation will probably give a little extra height, he should be MP Prime's height in bot mode.
Let me add that this all just my own assumptions and I don't claim it's proof positive of anything.
Enigma2K2:
grimlock... bringing back the sexxay... and shoving it down your throat with the rough tongue of Masterpiece luv...
... I don't know where I get it, either...
Rijie78:
MP Grimlock, just awesome. Height doesn't bother me in the slightest, articulation and complexity are the important qualities in an MP, and so far the signs are good. Bit of a shame about the light up hand gimmick, i'd much rather he has an articulated right hand - but hopefully it won't be tricky to mod that. And as it is, if Grimmy's dino mode is about Seeker robot height, i'm sure his 'bot mode will gain some height on that; so he's hardly a dwarf.
Preodered him the other week, along with Alternity Megs, so now it's just saving up til next March.. always good to have a Masterpiece TF to look forward to.

I think the dino mode will come in at 9.5 tops, which corresponds with the original poster description.
And, I could have it wrong, but as I see it, his bot mode will be at the tallest, equal to dino mode, and most likely shorter by 1-.5 inches.
All in all, he will not be "in scale" in bot mode to a 12" Prime.
Peanut04:
If he is shorter than MP Prime, then he should look perfect towering over the rest of the bots on my Classics shelf.

Originally Posted by catch22 Ok, I can believe his dino mode is ~ 9.5". The main thing that seems to make Dino mode taller is the upper body and head (that form backpack and wings in robot mode) are longer/taller proportionally than the were on the G1 Grimlock toy. Also this toy stands up straighter in dino mode than G1. The height of the dino mode can probably vary a lot, depending on how you position the legs and slant the body. It's possible it was designed that way intentionally, as in the cartoon Grimlock was (usually) shown somewhat bigger in dino mode than in robot mode.
I could be wrong though - won't know for certain until I have one or see some more obvious comparison pics.
