While providing a better look at the robot mode details, the pictures also confirm that Grimlock will come with a king's crown from his brief stint as Autobot leader in the Marvel Comics, waiter's tray from "Madman's Paradise", the mind-transfer device from "Grimlock's New Brain", and the typical Grimlock sword. Check out the new images by clicking on the picture to the left. Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock is due out in March 2009.

paco608:
looks ok, cept the head, wattup w/ the crown?
the unacronner:
lol omg I love the figure I think its awesome ...but why did they have to give him the brain transfer cap and waiter tray...I mean those are the worst memories of poor old grimmy

He wore a crown in some of the comics. I think I know more about it, but I hate to be wrong about the reasons and give you wrong information. I'm sure others will be able to enlighten you further.
Pasaway:
bought X2
I don't own any other MP, so his scale won't matter for me. He can tower over the rest of my collection.
if scale were the issue, then Starscream should tower over all of them.
Baird:
I'll wait to see more conclusive evidence about Grimlock's size. It's hard to judge here. The design itself looks excellent however.
justamaze:
I must have him! Don't care for the play accesories, hope he has a gun.
New Masterpiece mold that won't be used over and over and over and over. Thats probably why he is more money, they can't reuse this mold 4 times over the next 2-3 years like they did with Prime and Screamer. So charge more. Makes sense to me, sucks for the fans of this line.
Its a shame, looks like its a lot of plastic, little diecast probably just in the joints. Boooo

But the Autobots didn't want him as boss.
Then Trypticon attacked the Ark, the Dinobots decided to take him out so Grimlock could become leader. However, after the battle Grimlock didn't see himself as worthy. But the Autobots felt otherwise.
So he became leader. And took to wearing a crown. And had a "screw humans" attitude and was quite the tyrant. Eventually when Fort Max came to Earth they got Blaster to fight Grimlock for leadership (Blaster being a proxy for Fort Max).

Compared to the Grimlock we see in the Unicron War in later issues, or even the UK stories Wrath of Guardian/Wrath of Grimlock, it was utter tripe.
Like the toy though, and would prefer something smaller than MP Prime anyway, for shelf space reasons. If the quality is there, I don't give a damn about scale - it's why THS-02 is one of my very favourite Prime toys.
Smasher:
I don't care for the Season 3 comedy-relief waiter accessories, but the crown is so much awesomeness. It's nice to see Takara\Tomy try to include so much of the character's history.
You know, my G1 Grimlock can assume the more accurate, stooped forward with tail for ballast pose. I wonder if this mold will be able to do so as well.
I wish Hasbro would announce their release already!
rapid_fire:
man he looks so amazing!! it looks JUST like the cartoon in BOTH modes!! but with like lots of awesome detail!
THAT'S how MasterPiece is done! Wahooo!!
Now lets just hope they don't blow it by making him blue or some shit
Cheebs:
Am I crazy or is MP Grim obviously way bigger than G1 Prime in that pic? I don't see where the size complaint is coming in. That looks on par with MP Prime.

the way some people bitch about the accurate t-rex stance, its a good thing humans are still fuzzy about accurate t-rex colors.

I'm gonna shit myself with disappointment if Takara has the audacity to make Grimlock grey. Incorrect posture is one thing, but coupling that with an incorrect color is just going too far. panzerjedi:
Very nice... must have.
Rodimus Mike:
If what someone said about him being 12" then its probably one or the other, see I'm
saying Grimlock may not stand 12" tall, but he may be 12" in length.Just like Starscream
he is just barely over 9" tall to his air intakes in bot mode, but he is actually longer than
MP Prime both in Alt Mode.So Grimlock should be bigger one way or the other.

The Prime, Megs, and Seekers MP versions all gained significant alterations during the upscaling. I keep thinking Takara could have used the MP-ification as an excuse to bring the T-Rex posture more into line with the modern rendition. But then again, the point of MP is to be close to their G1 versions. And G1 Grimlock never had the problem of the toy's robot form not living up to the corresponding cartoon model like the other three MP molds were.
In the end I gotta buy the damn thing just to keep my MP collection complete, but yeah, it's some kind of missed opportunity, I'm just not sure which kind.
SmokescreenGT:
I was planning on keeping MP Grimlock in dino mode most of the time, but now that I see he has a crown, I'll have to keep him in 'bot mode a little more often. jnmx2000:
I kind of like the 8 inch tall starscream figure. and I won't mind that grimlock is 8 inchs tall as that's my ideal hight for figures like this. I just wish they would rerelease a prime and megs in a 8 inch format to match the new scale size. I only have prime and I would deff rebuy him if they made a 8 inch figure of the MP version. But for 150 bucks, he shouldn't be 8 inchs tall. hot toys figures are 12 inchs tall and cost 150. but for some reason all of takaras stuff is more expensive than anything else.

The order pages for Prime and Megatron also say "robot 30cm in height" whereas the seekers say "robot 23cm in height plane 33cm in length" so
as it stands now, the information the retailer has, which was provided to them obviously by Takara, says the prototype is 30cm tall in robot mode, making it equal to Masterpiece Prime and Megatron in height.
So bottom line, all those like me who were wishing for a scaled up Grimlock, or one as tall as Prime, have their wish-for now-until mentioned otherwise. Again, nothing definite till we see comparison pics, but going off of information on the pre-order page, Takara has told the retailer the robot mode is 12" tall, which makes him equal to prime in height.
KING KONVOY:
i think it's a bad shot but i'm excited about MP-08. I'm not sure if its the pose or the camera angle but I don't like the crown.
Mobb One:
I dont like the crown either. I like the concept of the crown of course, but the actual crown looks subpar.
But it's only a prototype. The crown was absent a few weeks ago in the first test shots, now it's here, so they just put it together. I'm sure it will see some changes/perfections before final release.

Those who say he's "sitting" are forgetting that his tail goes all the way to the ground; he can't "sit" any more than maybe half an inch lower than he stands.
THE-TRANSFORMER:
I think it's great I'll be getting one.
However I do hope that in bot mode he stands the same height as MP-01 (highly unlikely but I do hope.)
The other thing that would be good is considering how big his "wings" are, it would be nice to be able to slide them up higher so they don't drop so low.
Ravenxl7:
Now that I've got my glasses back on, I can get a good look at the pictures. I really like the crown and the sword, and I have a feeling the gun will look great too, but I'm not a big fan of the brain transfer device and the tray. Not that those ruin the figure, but they aren't important, imo. As for the size, I think even if he is MP Prime size, I might still put him with my Classics. Can't wait to see the colors on him, though being a mostly gray colored character, it isn't too hard to imagine what he'll look like from this gray prototype. I also can't wait to see what Hasbro has planned for him. You just know he'll be released over here somehow, though I honestly hope he ISN'T a Walmart exclusive like Starscream. Either a wide release, or a Target exclusive would be acceptable, imo.

He isn't only sitting down but also leaning forward to compensate for the tail. He's actualy more resting on his belly. Plus, that pic is skewed. I would say he is in that position and is still almost an inch taller then the 6"ish Prime and then could probably stand upright for a couple more inches. So, if he was stanind upright I'm guessing about 9-10 inches from head to tow but probably about a foot from tail tip to head. As a robot, I don't know, but probably around 10 inches. Still a fine size, or even if he was "only" 8 inches in bot form, that would be fine.
I'm really looking forward to him but really I just hope he's solid with good material.

And if the information is not given by Takara, then where did the new pics come from.
Also his torso is definitely angled closer to the ground to compensate for his tail while sitting down as the previous poster mentioned. This can clearly be seen if you compare the angle of his torso with the upright, standing T-rex and the siting, hunched over T-rex with prime standing in front of him.
anyway I'm not going to enter into a pissing contest about his height. People can analyze this every which way. My financial and economic intuition tells me that the price markup of 3000 yen vs. the seekers features more in play than rising costs of materials. A 30% markup for a figure of comparative height is not justified at all. There's more to this than meets the eye.
Ha Ha Ha.

On the topic of him sitting down in dino-mode like that, I think it would be funny to see a picture of him like that, but instead of Prime in front of him, have some kids alphabet blocks spelling out Me Grimlok (perpusfully misspelled btw). Quote:

Either way I think we all should just wait for more evidence to support either theory. I think it would be kinda funny if he was half way imbetween the shorter Starscream size and the taller Prime & Megs size. I think almost no matter what he'll be going with my Classics Autobots.

the only thing i guess i would have rather had was his Dino mode to stand like he does in TF:Animated
the whole sitting down on his fat tail thing just looks kinda ridiculous lookin IMO

blueandwhite:
I'm not really all that adverse to a slightly smaller MP Grimlock. If anything, MP Prime is a bit too big for my tastes. While I do like my TFs in scale with each other, I would prefer to see future MP characters a bit smaller. If he is indeed 12 inches tall I'm sold. I don't really need anything bigger than that. Sure, that would mean he's too small to display along side MP Prime. On the other hand, he probably would stand better with some other TFs.
Torque:
i figure he's a tad shorter than twice G1 Prime's height. intheir pic together, Prime seems to go from roughly the top of Grimlock's head down to just at where the chest piece thing ends. thats a little further than 50% of the way down his body, so he's a little bit smaller than 2x G1 Prime's height.

The numbers are a little fuzzy, but yeah, I think he's taller than most think.
Wow, you may be in the wrong hobby then. | Quote:

So, sitting down, it appears that Grimlock is about 6 and a half inches tall. Now, comparing the two photos with this information, it appears that Prime and sitting Grimlock come to about 60% or so up from the bottom of standing Grimlock's feet. This equals up to Grimlock being about 11 to 12 inches tall in dino-mode. How this affects robot-mode though, I'm not sure. | Well, that makes two of us now that kinda get to the same conclusion based on the photos. Funny thing is, I actually had the bot mode as being a little shy of 12". The Rex mode pretty much stands at the full twelve, but unless the rex leg collapses into itself to make up the bot arm...
That's disappointing, I wanted Grimlock to stand taller than Prime.

reave:
I think he's probably bigger than we're guessing from these pics. If I were ever to get him (probably won't, my second MP pass), I would not mind if he were in the Classics scale (he would be giant for classics, which would rule).
In fact, as far as scale is concerned, I'm so glad that the MP Seekers are a little bit smaller, as they fit in perfectly with Classics/Universe. I don't see why people get all gooey over Classics Seekers, when they're so far out of scale.
Knowing that we'll never see a complete '84-'86 line of MP makes me OK with adapting some of the MP figures for Classics, so I can fill that line up, and get it closer to scale. MP OP and Megs are in a class of their own, as far as I'm concerned.

i'll throw another supposition out there....there's only one particular height scale in the masterpiece line that features lights in various accessories/weapons.
Hiro Prime:
He looks Damn good to me. I honestly don't care if he's 9 or 12 inches as I'm still gonna get him. I figure three inces don't really matter too much as he'll still be bigger than his Alt form and he'll look great with the Classics as he towers over them.
Not that we'll ever see it, (tho I never thought we'd see a MP Megatron either) I really want the rest of the Dinobots go with him now.
And while I'm thinking about it, how long do you think it'll be untill we see an exclusive G2 colored version of the mold.
