New Images of Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock

New Images of Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock mp080
New images of TakaraTomy's Masterpiece Grimlock have surfaced on Zona Hobby. While providing a better look at the robot mode details, the pictures also confirm that Grimlock will come with a king's crown from his brief stint as Autobot leader in the Marvel Comics, waiter's tray from "Madman's Paradise", the mind-transfer device from "Grimlock's New Brain", and the typical Grimlock sword. Check out the new images by clicking on the picture to the left. Masterpiece MP-08 Grimlock is due out in March 2009.

Cheem The Rup:
thanks again to Zona Hobby (^_^)

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice

So, basically he's in scale with G1 prime. And probably Classics but not the other MPs. Pass and double-pass. Why not just release him as a new Classic Grimlock. Then MP fans would stop bitching about the size (and we could leave the Classic fans to bitch about the price). It's a shame as other than him being a baby-dinosaur it looks great.

I'll add this to my imaginary list of Super Masterpieces that will one day be released and that will have the seekers the same size as Prime and Megs and will have Magnus with armor... And if wishes were horses we'd all be eating steak. :-)
Glitcher:
Lumme! That mind-transferring shot made me laugh, but they should have put Computron there instead of Prime. I wonder if that transparent plate on Grimmy's chest opens to reveal a cockpit like the original toy. And if Grimlock is the same size as Starscream, I'll probably give him the crown to make him leader of the Decepticons.
TCracker:
I'm for one am not complaining. Scale is never an issue for me, and so there. I am happy they even tried making an MP Grimlock. It could be worse.
Monkey-Hands:
Awesome!

The site says he's about 30cm / 12". I doubt that is anywhere NEAR Classics scale...
dark gundam:
Looks good, but I was already sold on him.
Type-R:
Not impressed. Looks pretty bad to be honest. This looks more and more like an easy pass with each new image that's released. This is the first time a (new mold) Masterpiece figure has disappointed me so badly. MP-1, 3 and 5 got me really excited but this one just doesn't.
Chaos Convoy:
Oh snap. He's got a crown also. That's awesome lol

And yeah, it looks like he's pretty much in scale with Classics and G1 figures. Smaller than I'd like, but still cool. He'll go on my Classics shelf instead of with my Alts and Masterpieces then.
RobotoChan:
Loving this figure so much... can't wait to get my hands on it.

Which is very different from the "same height as MP-03" news we already had. MP Starscream was what? 22cm?

If you (and this site) are right then I take back everything I said... But he doesn't look that big next to G1 Prime there.

Believe me, I really do hope that you're right.
salmonman78:
Looking at the pics I noticed something, look at the pic of him with Prime, notice the leg you see, its bent making me think hes actually sitting not standing. So, if hes sitting and not standing he will be taller and not "classic" sized as everyone was saying.

if they even tried to make a $120 classic size I would love to see that backlash
llamatron:
Omg he comes with a crown.
Feralstorm:
Overpriced? Probably, but there's no way I'm letting that thing pass by. (I'd actually prefer something in scale with Classics myself, though I think it's a little bigger than that)

Neat to see the crown there. Almost surprised to see that, since the Japanese usually go for cartoon-based obscure props to the exclusion of all else (comic-based, in this case)
Incepticon:
If you guys look at the top right picture, Grimlock is not actually standing there. He seems to be 'sitting' judging by the way his right leg is sticking out.

Also, if you look at the size of Grimlock in the top right pic with G1 Prime and then compare it to the top left picture, they're in relative size proportion. Meaning, the size of Grimlock in the top left picture next to G1 Prime in the top right picture might be a more accurate comparison of how big he actually is.

Maybe.
hutchprime:
Absolutely awesome. Definite buy.
ZacWilliam:
AWESOME! More THAN "Must Buy."

He has his CROWN!

I mean this was sold to me anyway regardless, love me some G1 Grimlock and this looks like easily the best toy of him ever, but as a huge Marvel Comics Grimlock fan in particular... that's spectacular, I wasn't sure the Japanese would even think to reference the Marvel run (since they never y'know, got it) so that just kicks tail!

And the size, well... I'll need to see more, I doubt he's as "small" as some think, but count me among those that would actually prefer a smaller size in smoe ways. Cause if this guy can look fairly natural hight-wise standing next to the Classics, (and this picture says he might) my desire for him (already soaring) probably triples.

I mean it, if this pans out the way is looks here it looks to be one of my favorite TFs of all time. Wish he was out before X-mas...

The only possible negative I can think of in light of these pics is I may forever more be left pineing for a set of the other 4 Masterpiece Dinobots to match...
QuinJester:
He looks adorable. Probably not what most people think of when they think of Grimlock, but it's totally true, from his proportion to his accessories.

... and that's what might actually sell me on this figure. I have enough badass looking figs.

Re: Their listed height. They've probably just put up an approximate figure based on previous MP offerings. It's totally normal for retailers to guess height and weight on pre-order items. Looking at his dino mode next to G1 Optimus ... yeah. No, he's NOT going to be that big. Even if he's "sitting" (looks to me more like walking), his design is that his tail drags along the ground, so even sitting he'd be basically the same height as standing full-upright.

No, no I think his bot mode will be about screamer height, and it looks like dino mode will be even smaller.
Draven:
...He's got the crown he had in the Marvel G1 comics.
SOLD.
The Madness:
I like the toy itself so it is as good as sold.
I don't give a rats arse what it looks like next to any other toy.
cappeca:
This is one particular toy that I've been wanting for 20 or so years, perhaps even more than MP Prime. That crown is such a bonus!
Scantron:
I'm still ambivalent on this one. Robot mode looks great, but I don't care for the cartoon-style T-Rex mode; was hoping for something more realistically proportioned, like how the MP Starscream mold is almost spot-on for a real jet. As far as the size, I'm going to need to see some clearer pictures, preferably of each mode stood up next to another Masterpiece figure before making any real conclusion. I don't normally worry about scale but, for $150, it had better be a comparable size to the other MP figures. It's also too early to tell whether this mold will be as solid as MP Starscream, or whether it'll be plagued with engineering problems, like MP Megatron.
defstar:
Yes he's a must buy...hopefully Walmart will have a version of him for less...
MACRAPTRON:
I hate TF comics, but I must say that Grimlock's crown is full of win.
Peanut04:
I love it. Size isn't an issue to me as long as he is a quality figure. Put me in the bigger than he looks camp. I have a feeling the put him on the ground pretty wonky to get that pic with G1 Prime. Just by looking at his foot placement. I also, think that is why he is barely in the shot, cause he looks so bad bent down on the floor. Loving the crown, the rest will prolly be put away. I can't wait for some painted pics. A must buy for me for sure.
Baccala1976:
I wish the size was a little bigger for a MP, but I'm still glad I pre-ordered him, he looks great!
Robogeek28:
Instant buy, Classics Grimmy is now hanging his head in shame.
tusko:
Well it wouldn't be a transformers line IF they were all in scale.
Thus was the failure of the Alternators.
It looks like a great mold, maybe a little skinny in the legs and hips but it looks nice. The price is still questionable.
I'm looking forward to more pictures.
Galvamaximus:
Totaly awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trailbreaker77:
Very nice still planning on getting two. Now I need to find some room for a grimlock shelf.
1987olds442:
He looks great, but it is still insane that he cost so much to be that small. I love Grimlock he is my favorite Transformer, but it's hard to justify spending over $150 for a Ultra size class Transformer... The over $150 is when you figure in the cost of importing him. I really would like a conformation that we are going to get a U.S. release.

I really love the design of this figure and will be importing at least one. I just really hope that his bot mode is as tall as Prime. And the Crown is a win as well.
Darkspeed:
I want him so badly, but for the price they're asking... We'll, here's hopnig they want to release a Hasbro version sometime soon. Otherwise, I'll have to do some serious saving...
General Tekno:
CROWN!!!!

...Freakin' Awesome indeed.
blaine71274:
I think all of the MP's should be that size. That way they don't have the " I want to fall on my face" syndrome. Bigger they are, harder they fall....and break.
Takara_destron:
Simply amazing, this is getting harder and harder to pass on. Crown FTW

If so, he's the same size as Prime in robotmode, that would be cool! But I think he will be bit smaller eventually. I like the mold, so it's a must buy for me. First thing I have to do is to save some money and make room for a Grimlock shelf
SPLIT LIP:
If he weren't so expensive, he'd be bought, but he just does not justify the price. The 'bot mode also looks pretty bad in these pics.

People keep spouting: "oh, I don't care about scale" "size doesn't bother me" and usually, I'd agree 110%. But for his price, Grimlock just does not deliver.

Same here. I was wondering if he was going to be Masterpiece Starscream tall, or Masterpiece Prime tall. I hope the latter.

This.

And I know I'm gonna be hated for saying this, but I really hope he doesn't have much metal on him. *ducks*
ErechOveraker:
I'm still trying to keep hope alive, but if he doesn't have articulated fingers/hands I'm not even gonna consider getting this.
alien:
so handsome Grimlock
1987olds442:
Well I broke down and just pre-ordered MP-08 Grimlock at HLJ.
I went ahead and ordered two since it's the cheapest price I've seen on the net thus far.
Yen Price: 12,350 About $127.21 USD; €99.01 Euros
saberconvoy:
I must get MP grimlock

Does the articulation of his hands really make or break a toy for you? lol That's fine if they do, but I didn't expect to hear gripe about the fact that he might have normal Transformers fists, and he probably won't seeing as his hands light up to make the sword light up. Like Armada Prime.

I like him, if he comes to the US I'll definately get one, if I had the money I'd get one when he releases, but that's a pretty penny, even for a pretty figure. lolz

Masterpiece Grimlock =/= Animated Grimlock

Ever.
B-Fox:
YES!!!

Grimlock not being in scale with the other Masterpieces but closer in size to the Classics/G1 figures made my year.

Does it ACTUALLY say that or is that just speculation?

Good eye!! The reason he's in scale with G1 prime is because he's obviously sitting down in the pic......also it looks like they might be a little offset in the pic as well and the pic was taken from slightly above both figs so that's a factor as well.

Looks like the fandom found something else to be pissed about.....first it was the Botcon Seekers and now it's the size of MP Grimlock......this'll get beat like a dead horse. I guess no one saw dare's post earlier.
