I'm gonna stay out of the 'this is what the live action movie should have been like' arguement this thread is turning into. I liked the live action movie and I like the G1 movie. As for the video I think it's amazing. I feel if you're gonna put that kind of quality into recreating a scene from that movie, might as well do the whole damn thing and release it. I'd be at Walmart the day it'd release even if it were still on the palette (Probably rip the box open).

All Hollywood has been doing lately are remakes so why not remake the 86 movie like this? I know I'd be happy as hell & it would help take away some of the pain & disgust that is "Animated"!

Hey, I love animated, at least, the toys and the designs. But, at the same time, I really think you should let people have their piece. It can be very upsetting being a fan when things really don't go your way, and then someone pretty much tells you you can't have your opinion any more. Do you get me? I know it's annoying, but it's 10 times as annoying to be in their shoes. Just something to consider.

| I know how you feel - there was a point in the movie where even though I liked it, I started to turn against it because of the fapns.
Still, man, give animated a chance to get going. Hopefully they'll nail the animation later on and we'll see it looking more solid. Remember how inconsistent G1 was with animation from season to season.

I said it in the toy thread earlier, but this video was pure awesome. Really wish they would have compromised between this and 2007's "vision".
Akumaxv:
Oh Boy. Those who say the movie would have flopped if it looked like this video sound as moronic as those who said the movie will flop because the designs looked the way they did back in 05/06.
There is no proof of that. The only way that could be proven is if they make the movie using the aesthetic used in the vid. I'm sure a $150 million budget would clean it up too.
With that said, why can't people have their opinions?? Is it going to lessen the enjoyment you have watching the '07 flick? Are the designs going to change? Are you that much of a douche that thinks your opinion is the only valid one??
Designs are the least of the worries for the 07 movie. Like lack of plot, plot holes you could drive a Prime through, 1 hour and 40 minutes of humans in a 2 hour movie about Transformers. Enemies who did just about nothing and said even less. A cheap, pointless death. Ridiculous acting.
The video is fantastic. I personally feel this is the way the live action movie should have looked. It could use the backing of 150 million bucks, but it would have gone a long way to satisfy me. At least I can tell what the hell is going on in this video when you see the robots. I can tell what's a leg and arm and head, and face.
Hard to do the same with the "Transformers crammed into General Grevious" designs.
If you like the movie designs, good for you. I still enjoyed the 07 movie for what it was. A hack of a director who didn't give a flying f*ck about the franchise other than a vehicle for making money on something that obviously was going to make a boatload of cash.
If I want to see "proper" Transformers, I have my G1 DVD's, Movie, BW, RID/A/E/C, etc. and now this awesome video.
(P.S. I like animated too.)

I'd love it if the people behind the video did either a short DVD film like "G.I. Joe: Spy Troops" or a series of "Gundam Evolve"-like shorts. ("Gundam Evolve" was a series of short films that were less than 10 minutes each, all rendered in CGI, each one showcasing a different Gundam series. In this case, we could get a 5-minute episode of G1, then the next one could be Beast Wars, or Armada, or whatever.)
Either way, give us more, but there's no need to toss out the movies or Animated, I love 'em all PrimeConvoy:

This makes me think a "classics" direct to DVD film could work. That was just a short promo on their website, they won't be receiving any money other than from products sold, so why not take that style expand on it for 70 min + and release a DVD. With the popularity of the line it's sure to do well. Not to mention it would advertise the new universe line. I think we should all send Hasbro a thank you card for all the goodies they've given us today SarahMobius:

That, is, of course, if they had solid, continuous plot and dialogue to go with the solid, continuous designs.
Between this and animated, I'm just more and more turned off the movie. And I have a CRAPLOAD of movie toys, too, so don't call me a hater or G1 Purist. | And don't assume anyone who disagrees with you about the movie designs is a "Movie Fanboy".
It doesn't matter how "realistic" you make these models look, they would not have worked within the context of the movie, the movie would not be up for a special effects Oscar, and the movie would not be considered a legitimate Sci-Fi/action movie to those outside of the transformers fandom.
I'm sorry, they would look like oversized toys no matter how detailed and well textured they were.

The fact that some movie fanboy is already thinking OH BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK REALISTIC just shows how nutty some people are, of course it doesn't, it's cheap CGI not Hollywood razzle dazzle. But the basic style is more realistic and a lot cooler. Nice powerful, solid robots.
I warmed up to the movie designs, but now, I'm really starting to think they were pretty awful, especially after seeing that. We've just seen 3D Transformers done better. Success is irrelevant - come on, it was made to be a blockbuster. It doesn't mean the designs shouldn't have looked closer to this.
Holy fuck I wished the TF sequel had this kind of aesthetic What movie fans don't get is that because Bay and the designers are making TF "This" way, those of us who prefer proper, realistic, japanese style mecha will not get our movie in the foreseeable future. | Obviously, to the "untrained eye" the liquid metal and kibble cheating wasn't apparent. Also the model movement (as opposed to animation) for Prime and Megs appeared slow almost static in comparison. The faces did not emote well either (in comparison with the movie). Speaking as an animator, this is not as a result of budget limits, but what is possible with the rendered models. (Ever see a big blocky person have lithe and agile movements? None in all my years in martial arts or the military) Even though I don't like many of the designs, the cinder block "realistic, animae" rendering of the Transformers would not have been possible given the movement range requirements (especialy when Bay says no "liquid metal") for the movie. Please bear in mind the designs for the GI robot modes required morphing. Prime's big blocky forarms would NEVER have fit anywhere in the Truck mode without morphing; this is evident in the toys as even MP Prime's forearms aren't as thick as they should be and in making them that way, the truck mode suffered ( again, MB said NO liquid metal). Even in animae, the big blocky look was left behind for more "agile" designs. Even classic mecha like Macross and Gundam have appeared to have gone on Weight Watchers for their more recent updates. Newer mecha, whether its Neo Genesis Evangelion or any PS3 video game has largely abondoned the blocky look, leaving it behind with the eighties. I'm sure its been said, the G1 designs were good for their time. Let's move on. Change, while tasting bittersweet is good for us.

I thought it was ok. Not as great as everyone's making it out to be. Great for a fan made video though, but nowhere near up to snuff with big budget styling. The G1 designs just don't work as well in that type of detail (though Prime works much better than Megatron).

I have to agree- animation is a little quirky, and the parts aren't really molded on the models too well (look at Primes back for a good example). It is in no way comparable to the animation we saw in last years movie, and even though I would love to see a series like this, at this point this quality of CG would be too costly for a show.
Awesome? Yes. Better then the 07 movie CG? Not by any means. Better then Animated? That's a judgement call, but I KNOW animated is more economical.

While I agree that rocked, it looked totally fake and kinda laughable if that's what the 2007 movie looked like. The CGI was good, but not hollywood level. Designs like that just don't look beleivable enough.
IMO, that would have been ridiculous as a bigtime hollywood film, however, since it's not, it's much easier to appreciate it for what it is. And that is an awesome little video.
I do wish the fight scenes were more like that in the real movie. (More shooting and throwing of stuff. In the movie it was mostly hand to hand until the end)
