 | | | Mold Issues for Takara-Tomy Encore 16 Bruticus | | Posted on 07-25-2009 at 12:56 PM by TM2 D-bot | User miao of the Actoys boards, has managed to pick up an Encore 16 Bruticus. Miao also edited some side by side images with a G1 Bruticus in their component and combined modes.
In the images we can see rough and uneven parts. This is apparent on Onslaught and Vortex in particular, although the other three are not exempt. The coloring is based on the G1 animation instead of being a direct homage to the toy palette. Some stickers were replaced with tampographs and unlike reissue Predaking, this Bruticus does not contain metal.

Awesome man, loads of Chinese writing I can read and no pics? Super helpful!
Optimus Sledge:
I think it's more the lack of English text that's the problem. Anyone interested in Encore Bruticus knows what he looks like.
Might Gaine:
That looks exactly like mold degradation from overuse. It's the melty cheese effect.
Opticron Primal:
Okay sooooo.....how do those pics prove they're made of cheap plastic and are terrible quality?
EDIT: Ah, mold degradation. Not surprised considering how many times the mold has been used.
Scantron:
Not exactly sure what I'm looking for on Swindle and Vortex, but the stuff on Onslaught is mold degradation due to the number of times this mold has been reused. It has nothing to do with "cheap plastic".
Yamaotto:
All right.
First we should say thank you to the original writer "MIAO"
He did nice job.
If you need more pics, please check the link I posted
Opticron Primal:
Gotta say the idividual limbs have held up surprisingly well after being used so many times.
Dead Metal:
Pff don#t care they'll still combine and it won't be noticeable.
Yamaotto:
Post another photo.
TFE (top) VS G1 Deadpool.:
According to that thread, here are some issues:
-Color's based more on the G1 animated series' coloring rather than the original vintage figures.
-It's not diecast.
-Quality feels sorta lacking.
-Quite different from G1's figures.
-Onslaught's cab/arms doesn't shut properly.
-Plastic quality: Obvious lines on parts such as Bruticus' head.
-Brawl's turret is levelled above the main body in tank mode.
-Mold degradation. Some rough/uneven parts.
Prometheum5:
Blech! I was hoping they'd clean up the molds a bit for this, since we know they've used the shit out of the toolings. I was also *really* hoping for die-cast versions.

Since they did reissue Predaking in die-cast version, why not this one?
Yamaotto:
It looks like the box doesn't have the window and you can touch inside tray directly.

I'm glad I'm cheap, and passed on Bruticus. Onslaught looks particularly bad.

Nemesis_Dirge:
WOW...that much for a over used shit mold for G1 figures that have nice rough hash lines all over with arms that do not align correctly in vehicle modes and that will probably be loose as hell in a few transformations....
Oh yeah we got that with Ruination....
since it is not the diecast versions....Pass....
This is the first encore set full of FAIL!
SPLIT LIP:
Damn, saw this coming. Sucks, because I wanted this.

such a shame I mean this set had huge potential.

Truly I was disappointed when I saw this toy.
1. not metal verison
2. quality is .....
3. the box doesn't have a window like G1 or other TFE reissue.
4. The parts's color is more darker than G1.
5. TFE Painted some "stickers" on the toy, which I don't like.
But the oustside box is very nice, as well as their character cards
aprim:
damn..that sucks bad.

alfred p. sloan:
I wouldn't mind having this set. I like the G1 colors better than any of the RiD colors.

| Why not? Its better than stickers peeling off after a while.

... | That's what I thought. The purple is too saturated and the dark green a little too shiny.

The blue camo isn't bad, I just prefer the G1.
The desert camo looked horrible to me.
honcho:
Oh, damn. I loved the colors. If I were to ever get that, I'd... dare I say it? I'd keep it in the box for display.
I'll stick with piecing together a vintage G1 Bruticus I guess. Bah.
Waverider:
Pre-order canceled. MP-04 Convoy Pre-Ordered...
Thanks for the post. I'll wait and see when more people get this and get their feedback.
03Mach1:
Those comparison pics are a real shame. I was looking forward to this release and it was going to stay MISB anyway. But it would've been nice to know the quality was better. lars573: Quote:

According to Fred's Variant page, metal chest versions exist Variations: Unite! Combiners Merge Here
He's done a lot of work on this stuff, so I trust his observations: Quote:
The wrap-up: American versions of this mold:
Type 1: Gen-1, metal-chested units, silver accs(japan)
Type 2: Gen-1, plastic-chested units, silver accs(japan)
Type 3: Gen-1, plastic-chested units, gray accs(macau)
Type 4: Gen-2, plastic-chested units, dark cammo
Type 5: Gen-2, plastic-chested units, light cammo
Type 6: R I D, remolded weapons, holes, x-tra pegs
Type 7: Armada, remolded weaps, urban-camo paint
Type 8: Universe, remold weaps, desert-camo paint
| ams:
I was certainly hoping this would retain the original metal chests, and that the mold would be cleaned up again for use. Definitely a bit of a let down.
EDIT: And I already own original G1's with metal chests, so they do exist.
microclone:
ive compared the onslaught to my urban como one and the degredation looks worse than his, from specific details its the same mould, the degraded parts are additional to the RID version.
a shame, but overall the RID version is ok and holds together pretty well, i wont expect too much from this version, at least he will look nice on shelf. a revamped tooling with metal would have made me feel he was just about worth $85 or so but like this less so, but not a lot one can do.
at least reissue predaking's tooling was tight as a..... well, very tight.
edit: the act toys review shows the original toys too side by side, a lot of the impact of the original is lost, including the colours. The original looks way nicer, esp with that more metallic silver and deeper colours.
oh well.
at least encore for teh most part have been excellent, only meister and now bruticus being significantly substandard compared to G1 originals.
signals3:
The metal chest versions do exist, I have them. When they first came out they were metal and then switched over to plastic later.
Morthoseth:
This really is a shame.
mrclean08:
I'm glad I just got an original vintage G1 version. I have pet peeves with low quality molds. At least I can save my $90 for something else.

This is the first encore set full of FAIL! | I wouldn't say "FAIL", but simply "could've been nicer". "FAIL" would constitute never seeing this reissue completely after having seen the numerous repaints in RiD (which are great, I might add, particularly the Urban Camo version ). This is a great set for those who aren't particular about having a G1 set and simply want to enjoy a nice version of him for display Omnius:
I'm glad I picked up a nice vintage Bruticus last year. It came with the metal-chest version of Blast Off too.
To be honest, I'm not surprised the mold has degraded after:
* G1 1986
* G1 1991
* G2
* Battle Gaia
* CR/RiD Ruination
* Desert camo etc
It's probably time to retire this set (unfortunately). Backscatter:
Sorry for anyone looking forward to this Bruticus. The mold has been way over-used.
GreenScream:
Interesting... all the more reason to wait til' this set drops in price.
