Masterpiece Grimlock Size Comparison Images

Masterpiece Grimlock Size Comparison Images 99_51115_9f96f8f7fc73837
All stars of ACToys.net has done some first-class sleuthing to give an indication of the rough size of Masterpiece Grimlock in robot mode compared to Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Classics (Henkei) Optimus Prime. It is a fascinating and well thought out process, and although it may not be 100% accurate, you can see from the images that Masterpiece Grimlock will be approximately a head shorter than the Masterpiece Optimus Prime.

I'm sure these pics are fairly accurate, but I'll wait until I see an official side by side comparison before having any sort of vested reaction.

I will say, however, that I'm a bit disappointed that I probably won't be able to display this guy with the rest of my Masterpiece/Alternator collection due to the size discrepancy. Hopefully it'll fit in with the Classics.

My opinion is that I never really assumed the MP line would all be in scale with each other, I assumed they would just be 'ultimate' versions of certain characters. Add that to the fact that TF scales are and always have been all over the place anyway, and it's not something that bothers me. It sucks for the people who wanted something bigger. It also sucks for people who wanted a 'realistic' T-Rex instead of a cartoon accurate one. And if it turns out to be all plastic with no diecast, it'll suck for the group of fans who will be turned off due to that. I think the straight beans is that there is absolutely no way to please all of the fans with this release since so many people have so many different standards. If this toy doesn't meet your standards, I sincerely hope you'll get one someday that does.
I totally agree on that. The MP line is a line with the 'ultimate' versions of G1 characters. And I think this MP is THE ultimate Grimlock Bring it one!

All Binaltechs/Alternators are 100% in scale with each other.

That doesn't mean anything in terms of Masterpiece and scale (or lack thereof), expected or actual, and I actually agree with you, but just pointing out a factual error.
Coolhand:
First of all, BIG THANKS to whoever did those pics. I'm actually feeling a bit happier now-he's bigger than I thought he was going to be.

My own problem is not so much the scale in itself-that went out of the window in the Masterpiece line when an F-15 jet was the same size as a truck and a Walther P38.

My issue is basically this. I live in the UK. Grimlock on his own is going to cost me the about same as Prime with his Trailer. I think that pretty much sums up why I'm hoping Grimlock does something to justify his price, coz he sure ain't doing it with quantity of toy. I'm hoping (and I think it's too early to judge either way for sure) that he does it with quality. I'm still itching to get hold of him, I think he looks rockin' in the extreme but I think those who are worried that he's overpriced have legitimate reasons for their caution. Hopefully he's stuffed full of diecast and loaded with accessories and features.

I know everyone will have thier own valid opinion on this, so this is just my.
Futureruleroftheuniverse:
aww man,
honestly, I was hoping for something a bit taller or the same height as Optimus/Ultra Magnus. Then it'll be in scale with G1... MP-1 mold better not be the largest bot in the masterpiece line
catch22:
I'm happy with the size. It'd be nice if he was a bit bigger, but at least he isn't MP Starscream small

Want a good comparison? Shoot a straight on pic of the two Primes standing next to each other.

Not a huge height difference, but it will be noticeable. MP Grim is actually smaller than these pics would have you believe.
This!

That picture of all the Primes together is very misleading. No way G1 Optimus comes up that height next to MP Prime (he's actually about an inch shorter than he looks there).
Knightdramon:
I personally don't mind the size, as many have said before me, he'll look just right next to the henkei dudes, which is about the only TF line I have on display.

What worries me is that people think he might be heavy on the die-cast. I think that Takara pretty much abandoned die-cast on their masterpiece series, Starscream barely had any and Megatron's was laughable.

At any rate, I'm really looking forward to this figure.

I second you boy, his size is really good for classics line and stuff, but I don't think it worths the 150 bucks, besides, to be honest, I don't think he will have as much Die-Cast as MP Convoy
The Madness:
I think anyone who is hoping for heaps of Die cast will be disappointed.
Personally, I think MP GL looks to be a fantastic toy on his own merits, and I'll be one of those handing over the cash when he is released.

However, I posture his expense is likely to be influenced by not only raw material prices, as has been discussed previously, but also the possibility of reduced demand. No one needs mention of the current economic climate most of the world is facing, and I expect many consumer budgets have been adjusted as a result. There is no doubt Takara/Tomy has need for economic rationalism either, yet despite this is endeavoring to produce an expensive, high quality item of a fairly Secondary/Tertiary character (ie non-convoy).

Grimlock is a reasonably popular character, probably more so than Thundercracker and Skywarp, even Ultra Magnus. But compared to OP/Convoy & Megs, and possibly Starscream, the Dinobot Leader is a relatively high risk project. And I know I can only speculate, but I assume this kind of risk-taking needs to be offset somehow to make production and development more fiscally viable.

Basically, the less guarantee of sales (less popular characters), and possibly re-sales from color variants, the more expensive MPs are likely to become in the future.

All this however, is highly dependent on Hasbro's level of involvement. Grimlock may very well end up in Wallmart for US$70.

Not wanting to put a downer on people, but I'd like to at least suggest that our perceptions of value may have to change soon, especially in the collector's market.

You're right that size isn't everything, and with Transformers items there's always differing sizes within any line. But when creating a Masterpiece Grimlock with the two established sizes of Prime/Megatron larger form and Starscream/other Seekers slightly smaller form, they run with the smaller size? As I'd said, disappointing. And the price, very much so, is still waaay too high for the item, which is why I pointed out..

Holy crap, folks like this still post? Bad as over at the movie boards, quite frankly. I don't get this mentality. Some customers/fans of the franchise voice an opinion (in this case one that doesn't say the toy sucks all around but comments on size and price, and does so intelligently) and some feel the need to come out of the wordwork to truly bitch about it? That's complaining for the sake of complaining. No posts in here crying in caps "OMG WTF DID THEY DO?? THAT GRIMLOCK SUCKS! SUCKS ALL AROUND! NOTHING GOOD ABOUT IT!!". There's zero problem with an established customer having some kind of expectation from their supplier, especially since this is the Masterpiece line that caters to the collector ffs. The figure looks fan-freakin-tastic and yeah it rocks that its the largest Grimlock ever made (unless I'm mistaken there). But that "just be happy you're getting something" 'tude, save it. If I were speaking of any Transformer toy then I have every right as a fan with interest to point out what I do like and what I don't like. But going around to threads and taking the time to type up a post doing absolutely nothing more than bitching about fellow fan's complaints is trolling, period. If you guys actually expect fans of the Transformers franchise to only point out positive feedback of the toy merchandise and never give the negative as well then you're in the wroooong place.

Unicron129:
I think the worst part is that now all MP figures will be around MP starscream's height. If they do make an MP Soundwave, its gonna look ridiculous if its taller than MP Starsceam and MP Grimlock.
Railguard:
I can't see myself collecting these things. Pass.

you missed the point, I only brought it up b/c there's already XXX amount of threads about MP Grimlock and it's the same thing over & over again. This is pretty much accepted in the movie boards, but there's no need to clutter the news and rumors board with the same repetitive threads. Some people actually like to read every post just in case someone has new info
[Wing_Saber-X]:
Ah well, Size doesn't matter in my case, its Grimlock, Its MASTERPIECE, ITS MINEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

MUHAHAHAHA, Ahem. ~!*

Also, pretty sweet overall... though on the pricey side, hey if i can
Spend US$ 155 on a soul of Chogokin, i can sure as hell spend TWICE the amount for TWO MP Grmilocks!
Rijie78:
As i've rambled before, i'm more put out by the pointless gimmick that means he has a non-articulated hand... but he's still preordered. With a bit of work, that duff hand can be replaced, at least.

It'd be great if he was about 20" tall. But he isn't. When all's said, I'd rather have a 9 or 10 inch tall, articulated, well-detailed, new character MP TF than yet another repaint, or no MPs at all.

Tbh, i don't think any of the MPs so far really belong together anyway - the Seekers look way more streamlined and "modern" than Prime, Megs looked completely stylistically different again (and personally I thought he had some pretty rotten aspects, in all honesty)... so a shorter-than-Prime-but-more-cartoony-than-Seekers Grimlock? Just another oddball in the line of well-engineered, well-articulated cool-as-fuck oversized oddballness that is the Masterpiece line! They're still the only ones i'm continuing to shell out for
Zaraxion1021:
Awesome Masterpiece. I wonder wat form people will keep him in for displays.....
Soundwave2:
you can't go wrong with either one, but I'll be keeping him in dino mode. or maybe just get a second one and have both modes displayed

Oooh, i like your thinking... 2 is always better than one
Plus, its Grimlock, for fucks sake!!
VampireNekoBoy:
THIS MUST BE MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GAHHHH! Ive heard that his eyes can switch from Red/ or Blue in both modes, im glad! I prefer Grimlock with red eyes. Finally a Masterpiece of my all time favorite Transformers Character!

Yeah I can't believe some these people are just bitching about the size! What about all the details!? Be thankful that they made it G1 accurate and even put in changing colors in the eyes!!!!!!!!!
Peacemaker:
It's a pity that Grimlock is not as tall as MP Prime. But it's not putting me off to buy one. There is still plenty of detail and if you don't pose him next to Prime I think you don't even think of it even more as it really is bad ass Grimlock.
Wiggyof09:
I don't understand why people would pay the higher price if he were bigger. If it's the same figure with the same level of detail why does it matter if it's bigger? Because you get more mass? Does that make the figure any cooler?

At the same time i don't understand the mentality of people who say we should be "thankful" it's being made. No, I shouldn't be thankful. We're consumers. We pay for this stuff. They should be thankful we choose to spend our money on things like this.

Bottom line is, value is subjective.
