As soon as I saw that silhouette I knew it was a work of Blitz's. Hopefully Blitz can chime in and let us know if this work is stolen or not.

Anytime someone's work is directly stolen without compensation it is technically theft, regardless of IP.

There's no need to freak out or get paranoid just yet. Wait for the artist/user to chime in before going "THEFT!".

the first I heard of this was about 10 mins ago when Little Iron dropped me a note on Deviant art.

TakTom have not been in contact with me about any official use of my art.

I have reached out to someone I know who might know the right channels to deal with this as I'd like to stay on good terms with people who I'd actually like to get paid work from.

On a personal note.... i'm a shocked as you guys. On the one hand I feel kinda cheated that as an artist who's stuck in a dead end retail job I've been ripped off. On the other ZOMG my art on official TF products how freakin cool is that?

If I were you, I'd keep frendly discourse with Takara/Tomy, but try to find out who "did the art concept" for the packaging, and have some words with that person about artistic integrity, and how they have none.

I had a few designs on Cafe Press that weren't really doing anything, but when Cafe Press changed their agreement, saying they could take my designs and try to sell them on their own without compensating me, I pulled those designs as fast as I could, before the new agreement went into effect.

My point is this: Do you know if Devient Arts has any sort of clause in their rules that says "if you draw something that is the property of another company, that company can use your art"?

I want to avoid the vicious cyclical path this conversation usually brings up when saying this, but I'm referring to Blitz's hard work (aka the art) being stolen.

It is not Takara. Asian Exclusives are for territories such as China, Malaysia, etc. and are not handled by Hasbro US or Takara, but by Hasbro Asia.

I'm not interested in burning bridges with any company that seems to be as cool as TakTom or/and Hasbro.

As for this artist I'm not going to seek out some guy to tell him what he did was wrong.... I'm sure some hasbro legal eagle will do that for me

As for DA it actually seems to be ran really well its very much about supporting the artist in the hopes they use the print service they offer rather then taking everything. And you can find a ton of big names if you just look up their names

I wasn't suggesting you burn bridges with the company... it's just that someone, somewhere out there, was told to produce art for this toy. And instead of doing their job, they went to google and did an image search for Sixshot, and selected the coolest pic they could find (yours) to pass off as their own work. They likely got paid for it, too. That's the person I'd take issue with.

yeah the artist who traced the pic was stupid but I dont feel like I need to hunt him down as I'm sure when the right people know they will make it quite clear its at best risky at worse a crime.

Wow Blitz. Awesome that your art is on an official product! But, PLEASE contact whomever needs to be contacted to make sure you get A: proper recognition and credit, especially since it is so hard to break in to the business and this is your "stepping stone" or "door opener" possibility, and B: the person who was supposed to make their own art for Hasbro Asia gets dealt with by management. This is theft on that person's part, so whatever punishment happens to him/her will have brought this on themselves.

I guess this is how it happened-
The guy who "borrowed" Blitz's work is either a freelance or an employee at Hasbro Hong Kong, then the person who approved the artwork obviously didn't have the knowledge to recognize it and let it passed. They might not pay enough attention to a coin sleeve design.

I think it can be resolved peacefully. Good to see you are calm there, Blitz.

That is shitty. They could have at least try to appreciate fans who make the most out of a drawing, but hell no, they decided to just snatch one up and pretended nothing happened.

Didn't DA have it a few years back that anything you posted up there, while retaining ownership of it, you gave them permission to do whatever the hell they wanted with it? Not sure if that's changed, though.

Slag, as a fellow fan artist, this is messed up, but at the same time, I see where Blitz is coming from in terms of being excited in seeing one's art on an official HasTak product. Then again, not being credited is just plain insulting and dishonorable. I hope you'll be able to resolve the situation with a positive outcome.

Really good gallery of Sixshot from about 2 weeks ago.

This reminds me of the time one of my works was used in the Beast Wars TV show without any credit... (Yes, I know I sound like Kup.) Still convinced that my rendition of the Decepticon symbol (see here) was used in "Nemesis, Part I" (at around 10:41). Of course I could not claim ownership of the trademarked symbol itself, just the JPEG that was floating around the World Wide Web in those early days of its existence. So at the time I just thought it was cool that I contributed something to Transfandom at large, so I understand the feeling of bittersweet elation.
However, Blitz, after looking at your awesome reinterpretation of the character (which goes way above and beyond just tracing an existing IP and putting it out there) I sincerely hope you do something about this and try to get some sort of compensation. I would not worry too much about offending HasTak -- if anything they will respect you more as an artist if you stand up for yourself and YOUR IP. And as others have said, it could actually open some doors. Best of luck.

Also, fuck T.Tomy/Hasbro for not giving us an updated Sixshot. This 'new 2012' G1 chromed Sixshot is just a half-ass, shoddy and rushed attempt at making more money. Im so sticking with the Hexatron 3rd party release.

The irony of this whole post. I don't see how you can feel sorry for Blitz's possible stolen art while at the same time support a 3rd Party that steals IPs.

while I feel sorry for Blitz, I don't support T.Tomy/Hasbro's Asia marketing arm for not clarifying or asking him for permission to use his art en mass and for commercial release. In addition, I wont be tempted to give my hard earned dough on something T.Tomy obviously is putting out as a desperate sign to make a quick buck off collectors. I used to be an ardent supporter but when of if T.tomy screws up in terms of failing to deliver and using inferior ways/ shoddy QC and false advertising with highly photo-shopped pics of their recent releases, then I have to draw the line as a consumer/ collector & fan.

IMHO, Hexatron offers something exciting, and for me whilst I don't generally support most blatant direct and copycat clone 3rd party stuff like Igear's... I will consider getting Hexatron because it is familiar enough to be a different yet unique take on he original Sixshot toy.

Hasbro isn't a group full of saints either...they play it extra careful while making those vehicle alt modes good enough to avoid getting sued or having to pay car companies for their designs.

Sure I guess you could say that by paying these car companies to use their designs it would cost us more.. but hell they're ripping us off with those skimpy overpriced figures anyway. (Look at the FOC line!)

And anyway, Hasbro has how to defend itself pretty well... If they didn't do more yet it is because they legally can't do or they just don't want to do.
