Additional Images | | | | NGW:
I'm assuming we're supposed to have front and back instead of two back shots of each?
G1Wheeljack:
Can't wait for these to hit stores.
Jarodimus:
Are there front-side pics for Thor, Carnage, and War Machine? The news article currently has the cardback images duplicated for each.
EDIT: NGW beat me.
Optimist_Prime:
'Bout time we get decent Hummer TF. Too bad this is the way we get though.
Buzzer-Bot:
Omg,I can't wait for them to be released.
When I mean that that,I count Carnage and War Machine out.
Super_Megatron:
Images fixed.
Ravenxl7:
Captain America and Thor look great. Might get at least one of each for kitbash fodder. Like the rest of the line, they look to be about Voyager class size, if just a little smaller. The other two aren't bad either, but neither peak my interest all that much.
Beastbot X:
...the Heck? Why is War Machine called Iron Man?

Plus, hey, Iron Man = popular, War Machine = Why does that guy look like Iron Man?
It's for the kids!

It's for the kids! | Exactly what I was thinking. "War Machine" is a bit harsh sounding... and for a hero, no less. Especially when you're trying to convince a well-meaning dad, aunt or grandmother that it's a good positive toy for the kids. "War" is not nearly an abstract enough concept in these dark days... has some negative connotations, y'all.
Though I am a bit surprised they didn't go with "Stealth Armor Iron Man" or something like that.
He looks great though... I love the almost completely black alt mode.

Cataclizm1:
Thor's alt mode color scheme is hideous.

Takara_destron:
Do want War Machine, I didnt get Iron Man and this looks much better.
Carnage too, but he looks far too plain.

I'm lookin' at the thing and thinkin' "Damn, why couldn't YOU have been Powerglide?!"

War is inherently an unpleasant word, but I agree it's not necessarily one that kids need to be protected from. However the term "War Machine" particularly in context with a "heroic" character, really has a bad ring to it. It doesn't imply a heroic struggle so much as an automated murder device with no other purpose. "Iron Man" has a much friendlier ring in a household where daddy got his legs blown off by a landmine I should think. Just sayin'.
Incidentally, Beast Wars was retitled as "Beasties!" for Canadian television. No joke. For the record, I don't consider that an improvement.

Cheebs:
Ugh, Thor...
On one hand the engineering is brilliant and the sculpt looks great in both modes.
On the other hand...
Those alt mode colors are AWFUL!
Will buy. Will repaint.
Railguard:
I will pass, still waiting on the new Universe figures to come out.

Cap'n might make a good Megatron too since that's what I was hoping for in the Alts line after Hasbro got the Hummer license and then afterwards disappointed all of us. Quote:

Another Mainframe CGI TV production got the same treatment: War Planets was called Shadow Raiders in Canada.

I knew that was pretty much common knowledge for Canadian TF fans obviously, though I didn't know whether it was well known amongst fans elsewhere. It's a trivial thing, but interesting... and considering Mainframe is Canadian too...
I have to say, changing the title to fit with children's television policies is one thing, but I'm pretty surprised that "Beasties" was the best alternative title they could come up with.

It seems like all the original press releases mentioned the Canadian title for the series since they debuted around the same time in both the US and Canada. And I want to say it aired first in Canada too. If not, I'm sure Nevermore will chime in to correct me. Quote:

Even "Beast Transformers" would've been a better title, and kept in the tradition of the original series title.
I remember thinking when I first read about the "Beasties" title, "WTF? Is Scotty from Star Trek producing this thing?"

| Maybe I'm a perv, but my immediate WTF reaction to the altered title was far less... wholesome.
They seemed to replace the title on the basis of it having the same number of syllables as "Beast Wars" (hence the forceful chant of "Beasties" fit well into the opening)... but I seem to remember the title graphic had "Transformers" prefacing it.
Wouldn't "Transformers: Beast Age" have had a more sensible sound to it?
zmog
Geminii:
Captain America as a Humvee is slightly snerktastic.
"I stand for Truth! Justice! And wasting an Iraq-load of gas!"

Nevermore:
Funnily, the Beast Wars TOYLINE had the alternate French Canadian title "Guerre Bêtes" (not to be confused with the alternate FRENCH French title, "Ani Mutants").

That's a pretty literal (and awkward) translation. Somebody got lazy.
Ani-Mutants sounds a little better...
