We’ve got a review of the new Obi Wan Kenobi Jedi Starfighter Class 1 Transformer thanks to 2005 boards member ViceGripX! This class of Star Wars Transformers has been trickling into retail stores recently. On the fence? Curious to see how this small Transformer stacks up compared to its larger predecessors? Wait no more, read on to find out!

Pardon the double-post, but I can't seem to edit the above.
Went ahead and pulled the trigger on this one, at full Walmart $7.97 even. He's basically a Cyberverse commander, and those run ten bucks anyway.
Starfighter mode is decent, though I can't seem to get it to lock back together quite as tightly as fresh out of the package. Had a bit of a time figuring out the lightsaber storage, but that's because I skipped the instructions – the faux laser fire is a neat trick, and works way better here than on the Eta-2 fighter mold.
Lukewarm on a couple things – I can give the shellformerness most of a pass given the size of the toy, but I wish either the face was covered or could turn completely around. The landing gear is entirely superfluous, since the robot mode kneecaps wind up at the same height.
I do like the transformation sequence, simple as it is; same reason as the rest of Cyberverse really. Flip-fold-twist-done! Feels a little flimsy when folding out the lower legs, but again, given the size of the toy I can accept being a little more delicate. The only real knock I can give is the big kibble chunk from the cockpit – wish it broke up a little more; the backpack is kind of heavy.
For robot mode, I think the class 1 SWTF toys get their proportions a lot better than the bigger figures. Hardly perfect – witness the Eta mold's barrel chest and the Y-wing's sticklegs – but on the whole just better than the class 2 toys. The Delta mold is probably the best, and Robo-Wan Kenobi looks quite decent. Really dig the crest deco on the chestplate.
I find the articulation perfectly reasonable for the size class, nothing's terribly lacking. Where I do have issues on occasion is balance; the backpack combined with the tiny feet causes problems sometimes.
So, late recommendation – think of this one as an extended-universe Cyberverse commander and go for it.

IIRC, they can dock to the quadchanger Anakin/Darth/Cruiser/StarDestroyer.
Never have picked up this mold, and I keep seeing it on clearance here and there. Might yet be worth pulling the trigger on for three or four bucks.

Anyone figure out what that 'chest peg' is for yet?
(not really chest peg, as at least one character has it on his back… so it's really more of a 'bottom of the ship peg' so I have to assume they're for connecting to something else to make it look like they're flying or something.
Dinodigger97
wait….Obi-Wan Kenobi,Hatchet,AND Scourge…..now that's a team you don't want to meet!!!!!!!
TrueNomadSkies
Right, I forgot about those guys…

That's… actually really really cool looking. Perfect for cybertonian fodder or if you want a little mecha-Kenobi figure.

that would be a fantastic base mold to use for a Kranix figure:

… How in the hell have they managed to make a Scout-sized figure better than any of the rest of the line? I'll be grabbing Obi-tron for sure!

Great review. I have all three. Picked them up out of curiosity. All three have the flip up chest piece, I was trying to figure out what it could be for, but maybe you are on to something about the combining with something else aspect. I agree with your opinion about the lightsaber hilts being correct, and in fact, they are different from Anakin's.

Just saw these in my local Target yesterday. Looked neat but I wont touch that stuff with a ten foot pole, its too weird for my tastes.
ViceGripX
I don't as I'm out and about at the moment, but I'll snap a pic or two when I get home.

Ah, three-figure wave. Got it.
And yeah, I can certainly see hte potential for Sweeps here…got a Scourge handy for comparison?

Re: combining–I wonder if they're going to do a repackage with the hyperdrive ring?
gericault
Oh yeah! A little bit of paint and we got an ARMY of SWEEPS coming at ya!
(I don't think I"ve ever been excited about a crossover toy before!)

I see much mini Sweeps goodness here for my Gen Scourge

Class I Grievous. I'm on the fence about Anakin only because I never liked his character…ever.
ViceGripX
Yup. First wave includes Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Grievous.
