The Transformers Collectors Club has added new pages to their website showcasing the 2014 Membership Freebie figure Rampage / Protoform X as well as Transmutate, who will be sold exclusively through the Collector's Club store in 2014 and will serve as a companion piece to Rampage. Both Rampage and Transmutate use the Transformers Prime First Edition toys as their bases, Rampage is a redeco of the Deluxe First Edition Megatron with a new head, while Transmutate is a straight-up recolor of First Edition Arcee, and presumably represents what Transmutate could have been, had she not suffered the tragic accident that defined her episode of Beast Wars.

Rampage will be available free to all Transformers Collector's Club members who have an active membership through March 16 2014. Transmutate will be offered through the Collector's Club store at some point in 2014. Both characters will be featured in the Transformers Collectors Club comic strip for 2014.

They were, except the head turn around.

Or maybe they were different ...

Those were preliminary mock ups. Used to pitch the ideas internally and to Hasbro. These are the final mock ups that are used as the basis for the production toys.

I'm actually digging that Rampage's head.
Shame I'm not exactly a big fan of TFCC...

Ah, very cool then.

so even though those images are Digital Repaints, will the final product resemble them pretty closely then?

I'm digging them so far.

it would be nice to see the fusion cannon be ditched for Rampage's Trademark gatling gun.

I love the Transmutate, even though it still looks like Arcee.

I will actually call Her Elita-1 (Based on the Animated version's Colors)

Pete, with the way these are molded, won't the hinge for the wing on the leg be solid orange, since the lower spike on the shoulder is orange too? That would disrupt the paint on the leg, with it ending halfway up the hinge, yes? Or is the part layout different, which might avoid that problem? (example: those parts being spread across two sprues instead of one)

If only Rampage was a voyager. Would have been excellent.
netkid
Darn, I thought Rampage was going to be made from Beast Hunters Sharkticon Megatron since his alt mode looks like a beast.

If they had done that, then transmutate should have been the freebie with Rampage being the one you had to buy.

But... Rampage isn't a shark. The fins and everything on that mold would have looked all wrong on him.

This mold fits Rampage's robot mode much better, and he most likely did not have a beast alt mode before landing on earth.

Rampage's head looks nice. I'm not convinced that the Prime Megatron mold works for him, though.

Using the Arcee mold for Transmutate doesn't work at all.

Oh wait, wait, wait, this is pre-earth Rampage?
Digilaut
Rampage
negative - maybe Prime Beast Hunters Shockwave with the crab parts would have been a better fit.
Positive - it looks really really nice!

Transmutate
Negative - the connection to Transmutate is incredibly weak. The only thing I could think of that is in any way a connection is Arcee's creepy smirk on this toy. (But I guess this is intentionally the character before she got deformed)
Positive - Whoever it's supposed to be, the color palette is really really really nice.

Hurray for well-balanced posts!

Transmutate is a character that should be left alone. The story of this character is one of those golden moments in Transformers history, and this new figure takes a giant shit on that moment. This is not some great tribute or lovely homage. It is crap. There is only one Transmutate, and it died in the same episode in which it was born.
Nefud
Doing Transmutate while skipping Terrorsaur, Scorponok, and Tarantulas....."yay". Maybe we'll get a Miko repainted as a neandertal next!

Yep, pre-earth Protoform-X. I think it looks fantastic, easily the best club freebee since Runamuck. I do dig the "what if she hadn't become horribly twisted" transmutate as well, I just with they used PRID Arcee so she wouldn't be taller than X is.
drpockets
I imagine these will be alternative-universe versions, rather than straight BW versions.

Yeah, Transmutate should be left alone out of respect for that amazing episode.

Thanks for saving me money yet again TFCC!
Deceptigtar
Wow both look great
AAarcher221
Still wish they used Shockwave for Rampage. Don't really dig the FE deluxe Megs mold, but makes sense as Protoform X and not as Rampage as a whole.

Transmutate looks...surprisingly attractive. Wish they chose a smaller mold, though. Feels weird having Transmutate being almost the same size as Rampage.

If only that Shark Megatron would of been a BH Rampage instead.

Oh well, maybe Hasbro will do a Generations version one day.

Wow, I can't believe how nice Rampage looks, might actually have to bite on the TFCC this year.

Wasn't really sold on that Transmutate figure...

Till I saw the Maximals insignia.

With that, I MUST have her in my collection!
lordmegatron64
When they provide us with new molds actually worth the over-the-top prices instead of worthless repaints. Then I may start thinking about even considering whether or not to buy them. Pass.
Sol Fury
Rampage looks fantastic. Is it 2014 yet? I want him in my collection!

Transmutate has a nice deco. Nice contrast of colours, works well on the mold. I'm not heavily invested in the character or in Beast Wars characters who are not beasts, but I'll probably get her if the price is right on the strength of the deco, and because I never got the BAF Transmutate.

It's the small size of the production run that puts up the cost. New tooling (which for info you're getting for free on Rampage) also costs. A complete new mold for even a modest run of say 10'000 would not be feasible. Brain and Pete are on record saying this most Botcons. They'd love to offer an exclusive mold, but with the cost of making it so, it is just not doable.
BScorpinok75
rampage looks bada$$ but i'm not feeling that transmutarcee as much. not beast related but i'd like to see arcee as g1 greenlight and lancer......
Ironhide4
Would like Rampage/Protoform X if anyone is selling him when he comes out? :-)

If you think remoulds have over-the-top-prices, then the cost of a completely new mould would bring tears to your eyes.

Same here. I love this mold and already have entirely too many versions of it, but the colors are molding on this are must have.

I keep hearing this excuse, yet I see 3rd parties making and selling small runs of new molds in the $80-$100 range all of the time. The "not-Throttlebots" are sold for around $60 each, and they are deluxe sized new molds. Many other examples exist. I think it is a tired and worn out excuse for not offering completely new product through the club. If Hasbro cannot keep up with 3rd parties in terms of pricing on small runs, maybe we need an unofficial fan club that can meet demand.

Good point, but you're not considering other factors. Salaries? Licensing? Budgets?

It's been well documented that some 3rd party companies are fans who design toys with other full time jobs. The sale of their product does not necessarily mean it translates to money in their pockets (salaries, etc.)

I'd honestly welcome a 3rd Party Club ... so I'm not disagreeing with you, but there are other factors to this.

i always felt prime shredd--- i mean ... prime megatrons mold would have made a great proto x

Salaries and budgets are a consideration for all operations, even 3rd parties. Fansproject, MMC, and the rest have employees and budget considerations. Licensing is the only added expense that I see the club having, but surely that must be more than covered by the membership fees and proceeds from Botcon.

Without knowing more about the R&D and production costs of 3P items, it's hard to make a comparison. Many of them do it as a side-project to full-time jobs, etc, and they don't have to go through complex approval processes to meet toy safety standards, and the like. The club have said in the past that a lot of cost goes into the remoulds they do (the cost of Punch/Counterpunch's head meant they couldn't do anything about the fists being the 'wrong' way around in one robot mode), so I expect that the time and cost involved would be prohibitive (as Pete and Brian have said in the past, on numerous occasions, and they're better qualified to know that than most).
Blitz.
huh thought they would have gone with the Beast Hunters megatron over the standard

Size/cost - this is a Deluxe whereas BH Megs is a Voyager.

transmutate look pretty cool, but i learn my lesson from BH Arcee... i'm not getting my hopes up that much.. (but again TFCC did a good job with Slipstream). i'm might get her, to send hasbro a message that i want more BW figures (Airazor and Blackarachnia)..

edit: i wonder how much its going to cost? Slipstream set me back around 400 bucks (local currency)..

If you don't have employees on salary ... salaries are not too much of a consideration.

Wow! Surprisingly good! I actually like the Prime aesthetic for the Pre-Earth modes of the Beast Wars characters (where it makes sense) more than some of the classics/cybertron molds. I might have to get these....without giving the club my money. I really gave them a chance (member from the very beginning till this past March) but I have to admit I am among the growing number of people who do not trust them. Sorry, back to topic, these are definitely some of the best redecos I have seen from them.
Thundershot
Now we need Silverbolt from BH Dreadwing.
Smasher
Protoform X is aces.
I'm having a hard time seeing Transmutate though.
All I see is Arcee.
