TFcon 2009 Date Update: Now TWO Days - April 25th AND 26th

TFcon 2009 Date Update: Now TWO Days - April 25th AND 26th tfcon-button
The TFcon website has been updated with an addition to the 2009 date. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Transformers, Canada's 8th Annual Transformers Collectors Convention will return to Toronto at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel Toronto Airport for a 2 day event on April 25th and 26th, 2009. Both days will feature unique programming and different dealers. As past attendees are aware by the end of the day many dealers are sold out, so in order to fill the void the second day will feature, in addition to Transformers, other 80s toys such as Star Wars, GIJoe, WWF, Voltron, Star Trek, He-Man, Thundercats and Super Heroes etc. Visit www.transformerscon.com for further updates as the convention draws closer, you can also RSVP via Facebook for the event.

How can anything match "up till 5am talking with Derrick Wyatt"

Also I would also like to congrat anyone who picked out Powered Commander who sold out quickly from his lovely stock of 500. He is now going for the quite the mint on ebay. Oh ho ho ho. Well I kept mine....
Nerroth:
The more I read about how great the event was for everyone else, and how much fun they had with this and that...

...the more I feel like I really missed the boat.

I mean, it was a better experience for me than my last TFCon was (back in 2007), where I didn't have a lot of fun at all, frankly, but had I not had the chance to meet with a few people in downtown Toronto on the Friday, I don't think I would have had much of a chance to actually chat with anyone at all.

(I was only able to afford going on Saturday, and I couldn't stick around too long in the evening, either.)

On the one hand, I was glad to get the chance to talk to the Hasbro reps and the FansProject guys, and get a neat SG take on Animated Rodimus drawn by Derrick Wyatt in a comic I brought with me, plus ML Soundwave is making himself feel at home, too.

(Especially after he nabbed Revoltech Starscream's Megatron pistol!)

Oh, and getting to speak a little nihongo in the restaurant was neat - though I hope it was not too much of a burden to hear!

However, I guess I didn't count on how busy everyone was gonna be, and how hard it was (or maybe how hard it would seem in my own head) to try and talk to others there, such as some of the veterans from this site and Cybertron.ca.

Plus, having stretched things budget-wise just to get to go (let alone buy that Soundwave in the end) it wasn't easy to feel comfortable when so many others are busy adding to their collections.

To be honest, after a while, I felt like I had no place being there anymore.

But then, I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

Have no worries Nerroth, I bought almost NOTHING at the con (and normally at TFcon and Botcon I easily drop 1000-2000 bucks), but do you think I had a bad time? Hells no. It's all about the people, just mingle and any dollar spent is not worth it compared to the time talking to anyone about your TF war stories.
Nerroth:
But that's just the thing.

I have trouble trying to meet people in groups - especially when it seems that they all know, and are comfortable with, each other already.

It's like, who am I to try and butt in to that?

To tell you the truth, the last couple of hours while waiting for the shuttle bus (which, ironically, ended up taking me to the stop for the 58 to Lawrence West at the airport anyway) felt pretty lonely.

And yes, I know that it's my own fault, and I don't want to derail a thread in which so many others would have cause to talk about how things did go well for them (even more so in the thread at Cybertron.ca, which I started myself!) but there it is.

EDIT: My thousandth post - shame I didn't make better use of it...
Protoman:
Just posted my video insanity of the con, it's not much cause I was very busy doing my staff duties but here ya go!

Nerroth, you just need to introduce yourself man, when I first went to a convention, I knew one person there. By the time I got through with it, I could call like 40 people my friend. This year was no different, if I didn't know someone, I would say hey, ask their handle, their name and chat it up.

It's really all in mindset, we are all just people too, and yes I can see how it might be intimidating when we might all seem buddy-buddy, I don't think anyone there wouldn't have loved to nerd it up with you TF style, its why we were all there!!

HELLS YEAH, I met a ton of people I didn't know at all before this years TFCon.
Rhansen was one of them, everybody was super cool to meet & it mostly started by asking "What you board name ?".
Protoman:
The truly is the best ice breaker, sometimes i will talk to someone for a good 30 minutes before I notice it's someone I knew all this time from tfw/cybertron.ca/allspark/ect. And when it comes to conversation......... well your in no better place in the world, everyone there is in the same place as you are for the same reason... TRANSFORMERS.
Nerroth:
Thanks for the encouragement, guys.

Maybe things will go better next time - assuming I can make it to TFCon 2010...
aprim:
Well, TFCON was fun, a few things sucked..

One of the guys at the damn Reg Table told me the Powered Convoys were 160 US cause he "couldn't do the math now" I wanted 3 so he was like 480. I told him I had US dollars only he said it was the same and if I goto get a CAD then they migth be sold out.
A damn scalper at the entrance, I should of known.

Dealers room was way way over priced.
G1 stuff was marked so high up the stuff just stayed there.
Some newer stuff was well priced, I got a Henkei SilverBold for 35 US dollars. But G1 was crazy.

People were cool, FAN Project guys were very humble and great to talk to.
Rumble Fenzey was real cool too.
Other then that, most of my trip was in the car driving from NY to TFCON.
I bought 2 things, (besides Power Convoys) Silverbolt, Classic Star Scream for 15.

Cool trip, great exclusive. Great Dealers room for walking around and seeing some cool shit. I walked around for hours.

Actually it says right on the TFcon website that US dollars will be accepted at par. The convention is in Canada so if you don't bring Canadian dollars with you that's on you. Didn't you say you bought 10 exclusives? I wouldn't be calling the people that are running the con the scalpers then.

Yup I guess I'm a scalper so its ok to overcharge at the door. Get a grip man.
Everyone else in the dealers room (did the math). It was a convention that should have the proper staff and measures to accept US and CAD, the Hotel did it, the dealers did it.
Don't mean to crap on the convention it was nice, but I really don't like the fact you called me a scalper. So before I get banned I'm gonna shut up. But I guess Admins can insult anyone here and get away with it.

I don't see how charging you exactly what they said they would when you chose not to bring the currency of the country the convention is in counts as scalping.

You might be kinda biased considering you have Super_Megatron in your custom title. Just my opinion though.

Scalping may have been a strong word,
But making the Trip from NY to Canada, 9 hours in the car, we walked right into the convertion at 9:00AM onto the reg line. I was picking up extras for board members..

I dont know, I felt a little cheated when they said 160 both US and CAD. I understand the increased price, but the pre-reg was ajusted so why would anybody think diffrent at the door.

But The convention was fun and TFCON was great, im not knocking the event.

And you're welcome to it, I don't feel that's what's happening here though. I just think its a little unrealistic for someone from the US to expect that their currency be completely accepted everywhere in other countries without any penalty for the inconvenience.

But since we're getting off-topic, here's some galleries from Cybertron.ca board members RhinoxMaximal and Wawdj, hopefully they won't mind me cross-posting here, as I haven't seen them on TFW yet.

No one is saying that US currency needs to be accepted everywhere. All Aprim was saying is that they were selling the Powered Convoy for $160 CAD and he asked him how much for it in USD. If the guy couldn't do the math right away, he should have only accepted CAD then. It's kinda a rip off to charge the same amount in both currencies when it's cheaper in in USD.

I think the big issue with working out the exchange rate would be delays in keeping the line moving, which was pretty big. And like it was said earlier, USD being accepted at par was stated on the website.

TFcon Toronto 2009 Registration Information

Its an irritating thing to find out the hard way like in Aprim's case, though. Did every dealer offer US exchange? Out of curiosity, did they all offer the same rate?

Some used there there iphones and stuff, some just took 20 percent off the top.

What part of USD will be accepted at par don't you guys understand?
They did exactly what they said they were going to do.
Protoman:
So wait, by your logic, I can show up to Botcon and expect the dealer room and the Botcon store and pre-reg to just flat out accept my multi colored Canadian money? I doubt that.

I agree, that would never happen.
But nobody would accept your money at botcon in the US.
Everywhere else, even the bar, milestones gas station accept the US dollar at it's value not as (par)
Maybe because it was stronger then the CAD. I don't know.

The reg table was the only place this became a issue.
Bottom line it's my fault I did not read the website.
I should of never pulled money out in Ny.

Or how about the organizers doing the math before the convention started that day and posting two signs: one for CAD and one for USD.

Makes sense to me.

No it doesn't; you're basically asking the organizers to pander to what is otherwise carelessness on someone's part. The information regarding currency issues has been posted on that website in advance; you can't possibly ask the staff to hold the line to delay me and everyone else in it just to accomodate you in this regard. There's also the matter of, I don't know, exchanging your USD for some CDN before crossing the border; failing that, with the (Canadian) banks open on Saturday early enough (at 8am), one can just go into the bank 5 minutes away from the hotel and exchange your money there.

Fixed, and this!

It was awesome meeting a bunch of TFW members, who are also very awesome. I can remember (memory faulty, sorry if I either didn't actually meet any of these people, or I forgot some people) meeting Vangelus, Artoni, FrenzyRumble, Nemesis Predaking, VictorySabre, General Tekno, and I THINK that's all. Sorry if I forgot anyone. I also got to meet Perceptor and Jason of Unicron.com (hung out with them the most over Saturday/Sunday)

Also got to get some sweet TFs. A Powered Commander, 2 Samurai Prowls, one autographed by Derrick Wyatt, 2 Unicron.com accessory pack 6s, though one is my bro's. Both autographed, Music Label Soundwave, Spark Blue, Henkei Grimlock, 3 Reprolables, one Music Label SW upgrade, one Ani Faction Symbols Decepticons, one Ani Faction Symbols Autobots, Matt Moylan Print, autographed, Headless and one-foot less, and general junker MP Prime. I'm going to try to complete it, it's got most of the weapons though.
