Possible Toys for BotCon 2008?

Well, while the mold was only released in TRU over here, Japan got him as a normal release. So I'd not consider that mold "exclusive" per se. I would enjoy seeing it reused as I think it's the best "Seeker" mold we've had in, um, ever.

Prime is right on the front page at BotCon. I don't see how those 3 molds *won't* be at BotCon this year.

I think he means that he doesn't think we'll see Prime as in the character. The use of the Classics Prime, if this rumor is true, seems to be for that of a different character (Menasor/Motormaster, or Nemesis Prime, for example).

Gotta say that if this is true, this sounds as interesting as BC05's set.

So what will probably sell me on the set is the strength of the molds chosen (like Cyb Screamer, Cla OP, Cla Grimmy and Cyb HS, but dislike Cyb CW) and the deco, so I'm waiting for pics.

Speaking of ... is it just me, or is it taking forever for Pre-Reg information to be posted at Botcon.com? I'm starting to worry.

They said it'll be up by the end of the month.

Their last 2 deadlines they set (Theft video, Wreckers PDF), they did them basically last second possible - but they were met. So, I expect this to be about the same hehe. Hope everyone likes staying up late Thursday night ;-)

05's set is my favorite, with 06 being a close second. I loved the troop building Insecticons mixed with the variety of other figures. It's funny that RID and BW figures would look fine with Energon toys.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was so surprised that he never got repainted. I don't count that exclusive since he didn't look like SS to me. I have two molds that I absolutely looove from GF/Cybertron and I'm still hoping that we'll get a Cyb Def Scattorshot repaint soon.

i had a feeling that classic prime was gonna be a nemisis when we first saw the art for botcon, also was thinking of a classic stunticons. guess we'll start hear for sure soon.

Personally, I think he'll have Prime somewhere in his name, and be the "alt universe" Prime or whatever, as opposed to some other existing character with Prime's body and their color scheme (like Motormaster or something). Or the Optimus Crime that people came up with ;-)

And I'd really like to see the Classic Megs toy at BotCon this year. I'd be curious as to what deco they'd come up with for that mold.

-The ending sound clip on that trailer-y promo video at Botcon.com is the G1 "More Than Meets The Eye" flipped backwards.

-The evil-looking Autobots next to that.

Also, think of this: we've really never gotten a TRUE mirrorverse version of TFs. Sure, Scourge and Nem. Prime are "Evil Optimus," but they both had their own origins as clones, Unicron-generated lackeys, what have you. (Yeah yeah, the Big Convoy repaint is allegedly a twisted Optimus, I know.)


For the record, the GoBots DID do a Mirrorverse episode. Good Guy Cop-Tur flew upside down, while the Evil Guardians went to attack the city of Wen Kroy (Bizarro New York). It was hysterical.

I throught the set was suppose to be a negative universe type set which would explain the colors.

Classics Jazz would be a satisfactory re-paint from Cybertron Crosswise.

Classics Skullcruncher from Classics Grimlock works for me since it would be cool to finish off the decepticon headmasters (i.e. Classics Weirdwolf from Botcon'07 and Classics Scorponok from Energon)

Maybe the white and screamer repaint is nemesis starscream.

You do have to remember that Kickback (who has very reliable sources), said that this was pretty much what he heard.

If this is the actual set, I am kind of excited about it. I will get it either way. All that matters is weather or not I get a second set for resale.

Agreed, and give Prime a nasty little mustache, everyone looks eviler with a mustache, and yes I said eviler.

Nothing in this set immediately grabs me... based on the preview pic we had some months ago I'm tempted to think there might be some truth in this.

The BotCon 2006 logo had an image of Red Alert and the BotCon 2007 logo featured a silhouette of Classics Prime, neither were used in those years.

Not saying that I do not believe the rumor, because it actually seems plausible. But going by the last two years, just because there is a teaser image does not mean that is what we will be seeing in exclusives.

But this time it may actually pan out, which could be a nice start for a new trend.

Re: Black Grimlock. Fangry would certainly make an interesting choice...but what if it's 'another' headmaster from old? - Judging by the flat colour sceme I'd hazard a guess and say that might be Skullcruncher.

I say that because from the pic it looks more dark green than black...

Hehe, I was waiting for someone to say something about that, actually, since I thought about it too. But, that was completely different. They were only used in the logo, with no real attention drawn to them. These are specifically a teaser image, replacing the entire BotCon site, put as the entire cover of the club magazine, and before the site was changed, Pete was making a bit of a deal of it on the club boards (to build anticipation).

I mean, yeah, there's always a possibility that the 3 are random, but I'd highly highly doubt it in this case. It's very different.

But all my sources are wrong. Because Classics didn't debut at Toy Fair one year. And then Transformers.com decided to debut the first wave, and we decided to debut the second wave. I cut myself nightly.

It would really awesome, if they painted Optimus black, purple and silver and called him Menasor /sarcasm They did that already with SDCC Rodimus and Best Buy exclusive legend.

By and large I have been impressed with the BotCon exclusives over the years. But truthfully, the idea of a "Mirrorverse" set didn't interest me much to begin with, and this rumored toy/character selection doesn't do much for me either. Still, seeing a partially incomplete text description and seeing the final product are two entirely different things. So I will be reserving judgment until I see the toys themselves.

Hopefully we will see the official registration forms soon. If this leaked info is legit, I'm sure the FP staff will be doing double-time to make a formal announcement.

A Stunticon set would have been much better if done right. I love that Classic Mirage/Dragstrip custom I saw a few weeks back.

Why? They never chime in on rumors. They'll reveal when they want to. And we should have the brochures in about a weeks time, at which point we'll get the names of the 5 in the boxset, which will pretty much confirm this or not.

Pete did pipe in over on the club boards, about something else, but in regards to this gave the standard "neither confirm nor deny".

In terms of political talk, "neither confirm nor deny" means confirm. Though there are one or two figures on the initial list I hadn't heard of, but the rest yes, including the remolds mentioned.

So long as this mirrorverse Jazz (with or without menacing facial hair) doesn't put the kibosh on one day getting a proper (read: new mold) Classics Jazz, then I'm pretty much ok with this news. But damn do I hate that Cyb. Crosswise mold.

The only mold in that list I have trouble believing is Cyb Starscream -- mainly because it's a second Voyager. But also because it doesn't fit very well in my brain with the other figures. OTOH, I kinda hope it's true, because I love the mold.

Well, maybe they're REALLY hitting us over the head with the Star Trek homage, and some normal universe guys are "transported" into the mirror universe. Those guys could be Jazz and Goldbug.

Exactly. Both sets used molds up to 10 years old (Cyberjet Ricochet and Flipchanger Waspinator). And Hot Shot (non-Cyb Def) and Crosswise appear on the botcon.com image.

And I'm just now realizing that they don't show HS's and CW's heads in that picture. Doy.

I haven't brought any Botcon exclusives as for someone who is already less then keen on repaints they just cost way too much.

But, if they turned out a Megatron mould in G1 Prime colours (preferably Classics), I could see myself shelling out for that.

I say a Classics optimus,Crosswise and Hotshot's silouhette already.

The classics molds and CY SS sound interesting. Although a baby tryp sounds cool i don't think they'll name it that. Wouldn't it be awesome if the made the OP the colors listed but still called him Optimus Prime (no nemesis prime, no motormaster). The swapped color symbols sounds cool too.

Is should be:
Galaxy Force Starscream - he's fighting the evil autobots just because they're autobots, he's not a good guy
Optimus Prime - keep the name
Jazz - too bad they can't make him black *pun intended*

Should any of this turn out to be true, I sure hope this isn't the way we're getting Jazz out of the Classics series. I really thought/expected he would get his own new mold - not get shafted with a leftover line's repaint ala what happened with Springer, Huffer & Devastator.
