Picture of black grimlock auction from some time back. Only a test shot.
Could it be?
Deceptigtar:
all i know is there better be a decent amount of decepticons in this one since this will hopefully be my first botcon, missed out on last years which was a decepticon dream come true and will probably never be able to afford last years set.

Razerwire:
Interesting.
I'm only interested in the two Classics molds though.
Fosterlager:
Darthconvoy, what is the small toy that's not in the big box?
Ktulu:
Man if it's true I'm gonna look like an asshole. Seriously though, how many damn "my friend said" sources are ever legit weeklyhero: Quote:

I think it would be pretty cool to see an evil Grimlock and maybe this guy can actually be smart. But another white Jazz mold and a Goldbug doesn't really seem mirror universe to me.
Laser_Optimus:
Well, we got two confirmations from reliable sources that this is definently close to the truth... which means I'll have to wait and see the set before I can judge if I want one or not...
Abrogate:
Classics Prime in purple was predictable from the botcon background page. If it's purple torso and black legs, I think it'll look great
the Crosswise repaint, I was hoping for another purple thing to match Optimus, it would've looked nice, but Crosswise as Jazz? Well, it could work if the headsculpt is awesome, but otherwise I'm not feelin it
same with Hot Shot. Like the mold, but Goldbug seems like a very random choice
Starscream in red and white? Is it supposed to be Jetfire or something else? Doesnt sound like it'll fit in with the rest, but I'll wait and see
Black Grimlock sounds good in theory, but it all depends on what character he ends up as
normally having low funds is a bad thing, but in some cases it works out. Because I never bought retail toys like Energon Towline or Arcee, the Botcon 2005 set had figures that were new to me. Same with 2007 with Weirdwolf, Springer, and Huffer. This year, it'll be Crosswise and Hot Shot. That's always a plus
Victorysabre:
I'll take a Goldbug :-)
ShadowStitch:
Man... Unlike some of the other hyperbole-prone drama queens around here, I have absolutely no reason to believe what he said is false. It sounds like their MO, and matches some of the evidence we have so far. It wouldn't surprise me.
Botcon is like everything that is wrong with Hasbro's "Repaint it and Rehash it" department, squeezed and distilled to its fundamental essence, then befouled with the self-congratulatory ejaculate of TF ebay scal...sellers and the tears of Seeker completionists. Botcon Exclusives are like a tincture of everything that's wrong with this hobby.
03Mach1:
This wouldn't surprise me in the least if this is true. These should start showing up soon anyway given that Botcon is right around the corner. I can't wait either way to see the set.
ForeverYoung:
If true, I'm not surprised they're trying to use some Classic moulds. The last set they did "in that series" was really successful. Perhaps this is another shot at some characters that wouldn't have been in mass retail in that line anyway. Could Prime be Motormaster?
Whatever they do, I hope they went the way TakaraTomy (is it cool to call them TT for short?) did with the Classic toys and amped it up a bit with chrome and clear plastic where appropriate.

they come in big box with small toy | Lest we forget the Cryotech profile recently released with the Shockblast body. Possible con or club exclusive, maybe? Lots of possibilities from Theft of the Golden Disk, as well. And BugBite from last year's set was never explained as to his origin that I can tell. Could he possibly be from the mirror universe and was brought over by Cryotech? And now he's bringing others over to take over? Hmmmmmm....

I have a feeling the OP is on to something. | First thing that came to my mind was Motormaster working with the 'bots for some reason. If Crosswise is supposed to be Jazz, and Hotshot is gonna be Goldbug, with Motormaster working with them...someone had to have switched sides for whatever reason.
Still don't know what to think about Startscream and Grimlock though... Quote:

Seriously, don't like re-paints, don't buy them. Me, I like having the ability to buy a mold I like in a second set of colors. Cyb Crosswise, no thanks, Cyb Smokescreen, you bet! And Botcon Springer looks a LOT better then Cyb Def Hotshot. And to be perfectly blunt, I've been thinking that the Cyb Hotshot mold would look *great* in yellow, to the point where I was contemplating hunting him down and trying to repaint him myself. But if Botcon has a Yellow Hotshot then I might have to hunt him down instead.
The rest of the set can rot for all I care, I wants me some Goldbug Tenebrouser:
I'm not feeling this set. Hopefully it looks better than it sounds.
butz:
Just a thought, but couldn't "blue & white Crosswise" actually be a Breakdown homage, and not Jazz? It would fit with him being shown on the Botcon site along side a black and purple evil Prime repaint. Hell, maybe its Stunticon themed this year, and this supposed Goldbug repaint is actually Dragstrip? Odd choice, but who knows?
Squallte:
This is the first year that I belong to the Club. Looks like I should have joined last year to get the seekers. Don't know about this set, I dig the whole bots being evil and cons being good, but what are the symbols going to look like? Are they just going to be swaped (Autobot symbol on Desepticons and vise versa) or are we going to see purple Autobot symbols? Either way, I think this set will suck without a Megatron. If they are going to change everything we know and start a fresh story line without a Megatron, who's going to be the leader, Starscream? No offense to Starscream, but I never seen him lead longer then 1 episode without getting a major beat down!
Brodimus Prime:
My two cents: FAKE!! It doesn't make much sense to me that Hasbro would use molds that 1) two or more years old (see: Crosswise) and 2) have already been used as convention exlusives (see: Exgeyser as BotCon Springer). True, this DOES match up with those mysterious robot mode pics on BotCon's site, but it just doesn't add up to me. That, and a black and purple Prime would indeed be Menasor, which was already an exclusive (Comic Con Rodimus repaint) and a mainline figure (Legends Menasor, repaint of Cybertron Prime).
I think this info is appealing because Hasbro did indeed give us a G1 theme with their exclusives last year, but it is not their style to do that back-to-back years. In short, BotCon would not put out such similar exlusives two consecutive years.
Aberration:
Hot Shot to Goldbug is an odd choice. (The Legends version of the mold was recolored to Bumblebee though, that's the only relation I can think of).
I'm just glad they didn't make him into a dark Rodimus though (if this turns out to be true), that means I can save my money Squallte: Quote:

Kickback:
Think what BotCon has available to them. What can they *NOT* use?
- Animated toys
- Alternators
- Movie toys (based off licensed vehicles at least)
- Most G1 toys
So what does that leave them for this year? And keep in mind, *THIS* year means it was planned *LAST* year:
- Classics
- Cybertron
- Energon
- Armada
- What hasn't been destroyed in RID
- ditto for BM/BW
Theme looks to be a mirrorverse world from their website. Go crazy.
SKowl:
Sounds like a Stunticon set to me.
Except for the black Grimlock...
General Magnus:
So we get evil autobots and a good starscream?

| First, Hasbro doesn't make these decisions. They can/will reject FP's proposal if the mold is unavailable or if they're planning something similar, but that seems to be it.
Second, why in the world wouldn't they do something similar? They made a crapton of money last year. Some of (if not the) most successful convention exclusives ever. After last year's runaway success, I didn't expect anything else.
Edit: Plus, Cyb Hot Shot into BB, and Classics Prime into Menasor, as others said, fit the LOC line.
I don't have any clue if this set is true, but it definitely fits.
Cloudraker:
It'll be hard, nigh impossible, to out do last years set. I love that set and worth every penny IMO.
It could be the extras that really sell it for me- as in box art, story and "freebies".

And who's to say the whole universe was being restarted, why couldn't these just be bots from a different universe who cross over into the normal one somehow? Quote:

In short, BotCon would not put out such similar exlusives two consecutive years. | First off, the Cybertron molds fit perfectly with the classics feel and they've been using them for the past few years on all sorts of things. Secondly, Springer was Cybertron Defense Hotshot, which is a different mold entirely compared to the regular Cyb Hotshot. One was an armored truck (which was the one used for Springer) and the other is a sports car (which is what they're using now). And third, Botcon and Comicon use two different styles of exclusives and don't contridict each other. And the Classics line had both a Deluxe and Legends Bumblebee, so I see nothing stoping them from making a Classics Motormaster.
The pics line up, we've been told by a fairly reliable source that the info is close and there is an actual proto-type picture of one of the molds. I think this set is all but confirmed. Now we just need to know what the con only exclusives will be.

...Mirrorverse. Wow. How terribly fanfiction of them. I hope it looks better than it sounds.
A LOT better.
ForeverYoung:
Why are so many people saying Menasor when it would be a better Motormaster? They've used the name Menasor recently so the rights are safe for it. Using Motormaster more approriately gets us one step closer to more old characters being made with new engineering and technology. I suppose I'm just lamenting that we haven't seen a Stunticons combiner set in awhile.

Well so far I'm unimpressed....which is a good thing really, I need to save up for Classics 2.0 and buying a boxset would've trounced that idea. autobotx23:
I have to say that I'm skeptical too. But that Goldbug repaint and Jazz repaint sound awesome. Damn you rumor mill!!!

Originally Posted by Red leader please can we have something cool like last year and not ghey like this year is sounding | I'd prefer the variety of this set (assuming it is indeed accurate to what we'll be getting) over something as "been there done that" as the Seekers. At least this set isn't using the same figure three times. I applaud FP for releasing the Seekers only because it was a sure fire success for them and it was likely the only way the people that wanted all six Seekers in Classics would get them. But the only figures I kept from 07 were Bugbite, Dreadwind, and Mirage
ZacWilliam:
Something about this tells me it very well could be true. It fits the picture and the theme we've seen suggested.
I think there'll be a lot of disapointment with the concept if so, unless they look REALLY, REALLY awesome somehow. Granted ANYTHING was gonna be a bit of a letdown after all the old friends given toys last year, but still while I personally don't mind it, I feel like a lot of fans very well could.
Evil Prime in particular sounds pretty dull. Been there, done that, bored with it. I think a heroic, noble Megatron would have been a neater choice. Still can't judge to much till we see or know more.
-ZacWilliam, I will say that while I love the return of Goldbug in theory, the Classic BB body **IS** Goldbug's body, so making him out of anyone else would be rather a waste IMO.
Fosterlager:
I want evil Jazz to have a goatee. If you're going to rip off Star Trek, go all the way.

Well, odds are probably good that if we're getting an evil Optimus in the box set, we'll be getting the Heroic Megatron as an add-on.

I don't have any clue if this set is true, but it definitely fits. | well im starting to agree with the classics legends class figures idea...
Cyb Hotshot to Bumblebee
Classics Prime to Menasor
Classics Grimlock to Trypticon (makes much more sense than cyb scourge)
Cyb Starscream to Jetfire (instead of cyb thundercracker)
the only one who doesnt fit is the crosswise/jazz idea... and then again none of this really fits into this mirror reality thing...
ORIO:
Question...
wasnt the voyager mold of Cybertron Starscream a Toys R Us Exclusive?
Can they make an exclusive of an exclusive?
I'm not as thrilled about the box set as much as I was last years... yet.
But, Goldbug and Jazz have me interested.
Grimlock will be mine because I collect Grimlocks.

Grimlock will be mine because I collect Grimlocks. | It was the main Starscream toy for the Galaxy Force line (basically the Japanese "Cybertron"). It was released here in the states only as a TRU Exclusive, and the Leader Starscream that we got is actually just the Voyager upsized with some added features and details (though not much, imo). I'd rather see the Cybertron Thundercracker mold done up in white and red (especially if that's going to be a "Jetfire").
