Chara Hobby Toy Fair 2009 Photo Gallery 41_8247_2a51de3d5761728
Toy-World and the Cybergundam Blog have posted images of the Japan Chara Hobby Toy Fair. This is the same fair in which the special edition Revenge of the Fallen Soundwave toy will be shown. Unfortunately their are still no live images of Soundwave, but Toy-World does bring us Disney Label Donald Duck, Encore Bruticus, Device Label, and Halloween Disney Label Mickey Mouse.

Especially interesting are the figures next to Encore Bruticus. The toy fair started today and will end tomorrow. Click on the title for all images.

*UPDATE: New prototype, Alternity Bumblebee/Cliffjumper and Chara Hobby Soundwave pictures thanks to TFW2005 board member RodimusZero. Courtesy of user james2685 at Photobucket now we can see images of the "Black Repaint" stand including the upcoming e-Hobby Masterpiece Black Convoy & just released Electrostatic Ligier. And finally also a full gallery including Buster Optimus Prime from Taaboublog.

OK, what are we looking at here?

Those don't look like the original Constructicons to me. Granted, the photo is from an odd angle and they appear to be posed in mid-transformation and mid-merge, so it's hard to be sure. But I only see five, and none of them seem to be the G1 versions.

Also, what's with the vehicles in front of Bruticus? They're obviously similar vehicle types to the Combaticons, but aren't actually them.

Finally, I don't recognize any of the aircraft protos.

one of the constructicons looks like a tank?

I'd almost guess Micromaster... But there are only five, and they don't look quite small enough.

Worst... Angle... Ever...
Nevermore:
My guess would be "very VERY early prototypes/hardcopies/mock-ups" from Takara's vaults.

all three of those sets look like new molds. i don't recall there being an AWAC in the transformers universe. could those all be brand new versions of our favorite combiners?

i want to see what's hiding underneath the edge of that cabinet. see in front between the planes and the green bots there looks like the back end of a car with a spoiler on the back. and over on the far right the helicopter looks like it's been transformed. ugh i didn't think anyone could take such horrible pictures. i'm glad we have this at least. something to wet our appetite.

Looks like universe legends Jazz?
RodimusZero:
Hi. I was there today (I'll try, but I can't promise I can upload pictures with my internet connection here) and I'll clear up the mystery.

The little things surrounding Bruticus are original TF prototypes. I'm guessing they're from the early 80s at Takara, but they were all fairly undetailed little figures that were (I think) meant to show the original transformation gimmicks. SO, for example, one of them there was a modified version of what would be afterburner to show a motorcycle transformation gimmick. And those green things near Bruticus are some kind of mock up to show how Devastator would combine.

Is that Donald Duck Bumblebee on a skateboard?

Thanks for the info! Does that include the white unpainted figures and whatever the car w/spoiler is? It looks like there are at least 2 helicopters and a handful of plane figures in that area. Also, whatever is behind the the front panel where the light gets bent away. Can't tell at all what is on that pedestal.

Any word on what exclusive figures they are doing this year? Wildrider was last year, and that one was pretty kick-ass so I am hoping to hear of something pretty kick-ass this year but can't recall seeing news of it yet.

It's AWACS.

Ravage looks really nice, looking forward to him.

I'd love to see more pics of those Combaticons as well.

I hope that we get to see a better picture of the colored Disney Label Donald Duck. I don't understand the need for the silver center.

AH! That's right. Thanks for the reminder. Apparently I had heard that news before.

Or... Soundblaster as he will surely come to be known.

Yeah, they were very simple. But it was cool of Takara to showcase some of the TF history, IMO. Also, that black Soundwave sold out instantly. Apparently, there were over 500 people waiting at 10 AM when the show opened, and so it was just gone. Some people even camped out for it I believe.
Jarodimus:
Thanks a ton for the pics, RodimusZero!

Those protos are cool -- especially the aircraft ones. And I'm loving the Scramble City concept art. (Or, at least, that's what I'm guessing it is.)

This is the car you are talking about
http://www.tfw2005.com/transformers-...chmentid=23274
The helicopter tat looks transformed is most likely a very early Blades prototype.

Looks like a lot of early prototypes of the Combaticons, Aerialbots, Constructicons and Protectobots. Awesome stuff, just wish there were more pics of each thing , i would have took like 100 pics of that case lol

I have to dig out my Transformers Generations book, but several of those appear as control art in a special subsection.
Optimus747:
Man, I can't wait for people to start selling that black Soundwave. That's one piece that'll be worth the ridiculously high price.
TM2 D-bot:
New images added to the front page.
Bgrngod:
The two black repaint Robot Masters figures in the pic with Electrostatic Ligier are interesting. Does anyone here own any Robot Masters figs? I haven't really seen a whole lot about them before.
Blitz.:
man some cool old school proto types their.

rodimuszero is the man. hands down. a thousand thanks for clearing that up. sure was nice to think that maybe takara finally recreated the combiners, though... sigh...

Yokubarion has supplied us with more images from the Chara-Hobby, which includes some better ones of the earlier combiner hardcopies that go with the concept art they were display (previously seen in the Generations book).

Great pics as always and thanks for letting us know
Ryotaro:
Black Soundwave looks cool!
RodimusZero:
Feel like I'm being a tease with pics, but my dial-up here in Japan is kind of slow. Japan may be pretty advanced but it has yet to get fiberoptic in most places Anyway, here are six more:
RodimusZero:
Most of the concept art hanging on the walls was the same as in the Million Publishing Generations book series. It's kind of a shame they didn't produce some of the Transformers that were designed in that book. Like, they had a motorcycle combiner for example (which would have been cool) and as some of these prototypes indicate, they had planned some cool plane combiners. I like the little helicopter and the sonar plane is pretty sweet, too.
RodimusZero:
Here's one more. I don't know if it came across clearly enough in the earlier pics, but Cliffjumper has a new head mold. That's also something I hadn't noticed up until now, I also don't know if it's been covered by the hobby mags in specific yet.

Thanks for the info... although it's a little disappointing that these aren't early stages for NEW combiner projects. Dang.

Looking at some of those protos, I'd say the Aerialbots we didn't get looked much cooler than the ones we DID get. Grr.

Ok, really... this pic just kills me:

That fig looks pretty crummy from the front but now we get to see him from behind attempting some kind of pose. They got him basically laying as flat as he can go to look like he is climbing the pyramid, but instead of looking like he is climbing it, he looks like he is trying not to fall off the table and he is stuck there with no where to go. It's like seeing a baby hold onto the edge of a table when they first learn to stand up. That's a still image but I am pretty sure I can see his logs wobbling.

"I've got no where to go from here, but I'll probably fall on my ass any second now."
Black Sideswipe:
^ lol

Anyway, the proto pics are awesome. Does anyone know if the motorcycle combiner concept was intended for the Junkions? THAT would have been cool.
PoweredConvoy:
I'm just glad they actually put Skywarp in their Black figure display.

Randy
LEADERS_MATRIX:
Thats cool, Cliffjumper havin a new headmold, I did not know that, and the proto combiners, seems they had to many parts for the basic price range, probly why we didn't get em, to bad.
