Change to Hasbro Canada involvement in TFcon 2012

Due to the sale of 3rd party figures at TFcon the Hasbro New Product Preview and Q/A has been pulled from our programming. Hasbro Canada is still scheduled to attend TFcon 2012 and will have a product display and interact with the fans. We at TFcon apologize for any inconvenience and thank Hasbro Canada for all their help over the years. You can find below the official statement from Hasbro’s Corporate Communications team:

“Although it was communicated by TFcon that Hasbro would host a panel at TFcon this year, Hasbro will unfortunately not be able to participate in a panel. However, we continue to look forward to meeting fans on the convention floor on Saturday.”

You have less than a week to register for this summers largest Transformers Collectors Convention. You can reserve the TFcon exclusive Shafter and register for TFcon 2012 via the online registration page.

TFcon 2012 features Canada's largest dealer room for Transformers merchandise, question and answer panels and autograph sessions with many special guests including Transformers Creator Bob Budiansky, Transformers voice actors Scott McNeil and Neil Ross, artists Derrick J. Wyatt, Andrew Griffith, Alex Milne, Matt Moylan and Silas Zee plus Hasbro Canada, Chris Ho (Vangelus) and Ben Dolle (Peaugh) with more to be announced.

TFcon - Canada's 11th Annual Transformers Collectors Convention is July 27th to 29th, 2012 at the Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The TFcon 2012 hotel block is still available.

Probably scared someone's gonna ask, "When are we gonna see combiners like TFC Hercules in Generations?" or something like that.
hardreturn
well that's honest enough.

edit - also, other than the mistaken news that costco would get unicron which TRU eventually did, nothing came out of that panel that wasn't at SDCC
Eigo Risu
entirely unsurprising, and probably fair enough. at least they seem to be being nice about it this time around.
StayingInTheBox
Not really surprising, but disappointing none the less.
Dr. Prime
A bit confused though....nowhere in Hasbro's statement says that "we decided not to come because of the sale of 3rd party products"

So, I guess this is implied?
Anguirus
DRAMA! I guess that's one way to put the pressure on.
TedimusPrime
It makes sense as a decision to make, but it defeats their purpose of trying to show how cool their stuff is- which you can buy in a store for a lot cheeper.

No - tfcon would be upfront about it since it has no funding/sponsorship from hasbro
Sumner Sturgeon
Makes sense to me, but I'm certain it's gonna rub some people the wrong way...

What I read:

"We're not gonna show you the stuff we already showed at Botcon because you're selling 3rd party stuff. You know, even though we said we'll never offer exclusives for cons other than Botcon."

So long, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Composite Ghost
Or maybe they didn't appreciate Shafter and the continued association fans make between Transformers and boners.
NothingHead
It's one way, yeah; but perhaps not the most effective, since TFcon seems pretty cool with it.

I get the feeling most people go to conventions to either buy older stuff, or specifically to look at and buy third-party merch in person. I don't know who honestly would be hurt by not hearing about what's either going to be everywhere in four months anyway, or be tantalized with product that won't end up being released..

Now I'm trollin'.

Tiller
It's not like they had anything to show anyway. The only news we were going to get would have been from third parties.

Sucks for the Q/A and stuff. But that was probably going to be a whole lot of nothing like it usually is.
Bountyan
Do they ever show much new stuff at TFcon anyway?

They show stuff that doesn't come out.

And Botcon reveals, 2 months after the images are on the net.
Violator
Don't be butt-hurt, Hasbro, just step up your game.

Or cry some more, whatever.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering

Yeah, I guess the 3rd party issue may, in fact, be the reason and this is the kinder, gentler way of saying, "sorry, but we ain't coming because of 3rd party", but I also wonder if it was simply, "SDCC is right around the corner and we have nothing new to add in addition to what you've already seen" and someone is just trying to create some Has-blo drama.

There's plenty of other legit reasons worthy of drama though.

Sure, but this is a new "convention" related reason
KA
If it is due to support of 3rd party, im with hasbro on this. Its just on principle, why would i come to your nerd jamboree when u support products that blatantly rip off my stuff? If your design n product is so good stop mooching off others IP n create your own brand and have your own con.

Yah no kidding huh. what a buncha useless corporate douchnozzles. Ya know maybe if they MADE combiners like the 3rd party companies they wouldnt have to fear the 3rd party companies. Hey Hasbro here is a novel idea...when you release a classic character like ultra magnus....GIVE HIM THE F&^KING ARMOR!!!!! GIVE OPTIMUS PRIME HIS F^%KING TRAILER!!!! Its nto G^%DAMN rocket science!!!
Tracer
Hasbro is not gonna like this ...

... you know the part where no one seems to care.
Evo
can someone explain why this makes sense? has this happened before?

I can't tell if you're serious or not, but unless the trailer combines with Optimus, or to a much MUCH lesser extent can fit another Transformer inside, I don't want a block on wheels. Especially if it makes the figure more expensive. I do think Ultra Magnus with his armor would be awesome to see though.

As for no Hasbro, I'm disappointed that this news came just a few weeks before the convention is supposed to happen, but oh well. I can understand if it's because of the third party toys.
lenimusprime
just a little hasbro hissy fit
daelite20
Is habro making it seem TFcon is not going to survive there not there? That's too funny
AnAutobot1985
Hasbro you have no one else to blame but yourselves that 3rd parties are flourishing. STEP UP & DELIVER!! Look at the Hercules sales for crying out loud...we're willing to pay premium IF you can bring it. Stop the shortcuts and give us quality. Silly Hasbro..shortcuts are for kids! Stop whining and release more geared towards adult collectors.
Zildjian
Now if they would only pull out of Botcon......
Optimist_Prime
Too bad, I had a couple questions I was looking forward to ask. Maybe a rep will still be able to answer them. Just not in a public forum setting.
David Hingtgen
Honestly, this is the first year that I'm more interested in 3rd-party news than Hasbro. Hasbro's more "adult/fan-orientated" FoC line is so far very small figs, and an awful-looking combiner team. And for Prime---Airachnid, 'nuff said.

But if "someone" were to reveal a nice Menasor or Defensor homage...
LCDR Blindside
This thread is approximately
85 percent people saying, "Yeah, I see the point."
10 percent calling Hasbro out on a supposedly weak move
5 percent once again hating Hasbro because they won't release what REAL collectors want
Macross7
Seems they can tell TFCon no 3rd party stuff if they wanted to.

haha, tfcon already mentioned that if they wanted to hide the pics we'd seen at sdcc or botcon before, it wouldn't affect them much

Exactly! LOL Thank you.

BTW I do understand...keep costs down with plastic, paint apps etc...make more sales by keeping costs down. Most TF's are sold to kids, collectors make up a small percentage...blah...blah..

Its not that I dont understand I just dont care. I want more high quality TFs!!
Autobot78
good for tfcon for not folding and banning 3rd party cos' like dude said "dont let the door hit ya" hahahahaha

AGREED. It's TFcon, not HAScon.
grimlock1972
Interesting it seems Hasbro is being consistent on its stance against 3rd party figures, its my guess Hasbro told TFcon either no 3rd party stuff or no official Hasbro participation.

Tfcon let Hasbro walk, which to be honest took real guts, i do wonder if they tried to negotiate something to keep Hasbro there.
Macross7
Well be happy Hasbro didn't play hardball. They could ban any use of offical TF IPs. No faction names/symbols used, images of TF characters or use of the name Transformers or get sued.
GogDog
I'll take third party toys over FunPub Botcon toys.

You win this round TFcon.
PlanckEpoch
People who want Hasbro to "step up the game" and imply that they should get to Third Party quality are tremendously ignorant of business 101. Budgets, engineering costs, design costs, mold costs, parts count, aimed demographic, marketing, packaging, costs of crude, all of these go into what makes a toy from conception to product on the shelves. There's a limited budget for all of that, AND factor in their target demographic, which is NOT us, regardless of how important you think you are.

Cyberverse, Deluxe, Voyager, and Leader classes all have budgetary limits that restrict the amount of paint and engineering goes into them, which makes many third party figures much too costly to produce and keep at standard price points. That's the reality of the business here.

Which is probably the next step...and is one I fully support.

If Conventions don't want to play by the rules then let them fly solo and hold "mode changing robot Conventions" then.

This.

If the choice is between selling 1000 $600 Combining robots once a year or 1,000,000 $12 robots every six months which would you choose?
Hollywood Hoist
Good for Hasbro, if TFcon wants third part more power to them, but I support Hasbro's decision not to participate.
