Botcon Thunderclash Revealed, Boxed sets now 87% sold out!

They've just updated to say that the box sets are 87% sold out, and that all people who went ahead and put themselves on a waitlist for Iacon (non-attending) sets will now be guaranteed a set. Anyone who wishes to get a non-attending set must still go on a waitlist first, but they will move waitlist folks to full-fledged Iacon sets weekly, so long as quantity allows and they are still able to ensure that folks who actually attend--even if they decide to attend toward the last minute--are able to get sets.

This is going out to all Club Members!

As of today, we have sold 87% of the BotCon 2009 Wings of Honor sets. We have also cleared all of the people on the waiting list for the non-attending Iacon packages. Everyone who was on the wait list is now getting a set.


We will be allocating to the Iacon wait list each week (provided that there is any quantity left) as we get closer but, we must maintain sets for people who decide to come to BotCon at the last minute.


If you want to be on the Iacon wait list, please use the registration form and write wait list on the top.


If you are coming and have not registered yet, you need to do so very soon as when we run out, we will have to use a substitute package from the 2005 convention, and even those are now in short supply.

Not bad, but I agree, the colors could have been better. They look better on the alt-mode than they do on the bot-mode, imo. This is one mold I would like to own, but I think I'll just try and get the original, or the Checkpoint repaint, at some point. Would make a good Sentinel Prime figure, imo.

Not my favorite (Flak takes that spot) but still cool. If I ever see one of these at a decent price, I might buy it. So far, though, Flak and Skyquake are the only definite purchases on my list.

Um wow not expecting that much red being reused from the original deco, it just seems so out of place with the teal.

Ooo goody, let the hundreds of re-iterations of the same complaints by the same ppl begin.

I take this move by FP as proof that the set is NOT a sell out, and they are making moves to insure that they don't get stuck with 200 of these sitting in a warehouse (like the 2005 set). I wonder how many people are calling to get off the wait list, afraid that they might actually get one of these after all?

Frankly, it's hard to imagine that actually happening...

In any event, although I don't know numbers yet, we were told that they went up quite a bit from any previous year. At 87% gone, I'm thinking that's high enough that if they'd only made the same number as in any other year, they'd already be totally gone.

I thought about it, but after seeing this piece of crap I just laughed. I'm actually sick of bashing this set. It doesn't even deserve the keystrokes it takes to bash it. It's that freakin' bad. I'm done.

Is Thunderclash going to "Powerlinx" with anybody?

Officially? It's hard to imagine why (Powerlinxing being a thoroughly Energon-era idea, not a G1 idea in any form seen thus far). However, I'm confident you'll see lots of Thuderclash-Nightbeat pictures once the toys are in people's hands.

Honestly, I personally would have done blue hands and bronzed hubcaps. The rest looks fine, but that is just a bit too overdone for my liking.

Still, it's a nice, fitting, Thunderclash, and given the obscurity of the character I doubt we'll see him again in a hurry.

I'd have still preferred the Destructicon Scourge / Combat Hero Prime mold, though.

Especially if FP does the logical thing and make a Minerva figure out of Nightbeat. It fits the "international" theme, too...

Wow, he looks like a random Big Lots knockoff to me. I had high hopes for Thunderclash helping the set finish on an up note.

Hopefully the fiction will be strong and interesting.

Easy pass, but I feel obligated to buy him.

Flak, Scourge, and Landshark (to a point) are the only exciting Botcon Figures this year.

Hopefully they'll have some better non-boxset exclusives.

funny I see no love at all for the set of 2009. Lucky ..saved alot of $$. No regret. Never.

I was saying on another board, given what we know about the cheaper metal FP uses to make the molds for their exclusive heads, I'm not at all confident that the Nightbeat head still exists, from which to make a Minerva....

I like it, it has some nice nods to the old toy, but I wish that it was a bigger toy, had the pink windows, and A NEW HEAD SCULPT! We don't get his rocking battle station trailer, so at least this should have been one of the figures who got the head sculpt...

There are still three more figures waiting for a reveal right? We know skyquake and leozack, but that still leaves three more...

5 for the set=accounted for
5 for souvenirs= Skyquake, Leozack, ???, and I'm betting two sweeps ala the 2005 Insecticon Clones.

Oh dear, he's definitely an eye sore, but in that fun, late G1 kinda way.

So disapointed by this Im just going to copy and paste from the club board.
I'll have to have a longer look at it, but it looks terrible colour arent right, one is completely missing and the rest of them are in the wrong place and there is far to much white.

Amazingly I thought it would look worse, though I was hoping the mould was chosen because they had worked out a way to make the colours work. I just cant say how bad my first impression of this is. The word abomination springs to mind.

Edit: To much white except in vehicle mode were its covered in red, the wrong colour red, in the wrong places.

I've looked some more.

Rules of Turbomasters.
1. Red Window and eyes.
2 Dark blue/purple head
3. Mould allowing dark blue/purple upper arms and legs. TC is the only one without the upper legs.
4. As mentioned before, no black except for wheels.

Well they got 2 right though Im not convinced its anything like the same colour.

I honestly can not believe they got rid of the red windows. Im assuming its because of the red strip running up the legs to the windows an it would have been too much red, but in that case lose the red on the leg the red window and white leg would have at least improved the truck mode.

I wish the black was grey like the originals wheels it would look far less obtrusive.

The elite guard would have looked better over the original TC badge rather than above it in my opinion.

It really needed some paint apps, the light blue colour running somewhere along the shoulders to break up the endless white. I'm guessing thats what the blue on the wheels is meant to do, and if it looked like either blue used on TC maybe it would work, as is all I see are very black wheels with random blue.

Considering how little of the figure that should be teal actually is it seems odd to have cast a whole sprue in it. It would have made more sense for all the teal plastic to have been done in the blue/purple that would have given upper arms, hands and upper legs the right look and teal paint could have been used on the waist and lower arms.

I know I already said it but there is so much white. TC has one significant piece of white on the whole of the robot mode. The chest, theres the cab hanging off the back of the arms true, but its not a huge element. This version is primarily white.

I've been sure now for a few days and this has confirmed it, Landshark and Thunder Clash should have switched moulds. Look at Roddy truck mode, the name landshark works so much better than on the big lumbering landmine mould. And the Landmine mould would have given TC the size of a leader character, a trailer element and would have avoided the worst of the colour problems suffered on the Rodimus mould. I know it would have required a new head mould but the smallest one ever, all that needed changing was the visor replacing with a peak.

In sumation, I like the teal, sadly the only teal in the right place is the waist. So the waist looks quite good. The end.

Well, there's nothing left for an official reveal. Even Skyquake and Leozack won't be officially revealed until the convention. Who knows what eBay will yield, of course. I'm a bit surprised nothing else seems to have leaked, yet.

Wait, am I taking crazy pills or was it not said weeks ago when the displeasure of this set was getting steam it was announced, almost to downplay the hate, that the sets were sold out??!!

Now weeks later they are 87 percent sold out????

Get'em fast before they are 67 percent sold out.

meh. well it looks like ill be saving a lot of money for botcon since im not going to bother to buy this set. they could have done sooooo much better.

Looking forward to reading the fiction at Botcon so I can form some semblence of an idea as to WTF these characters have to do with one another.

Now on to my take. This thing just looks like a goofy rainbow. I think the botcon set really took a step back, and because of things like this I am glad I am not a completionist. These toys are not for me. Just a strange looking set at best.

Overall, I like Thunderclash. Flak and Scourge have him beat, though.

The following sum up my main problems with the deco:

The last one, especially. The bird-o'-prey thingy looks too squished. It should be much bigger, with the EG emblem superimposed over it.

i've never really paid much attention to botcon exclusive figures. is the only way to get them by actually going to botcon, or can i order them on their website?

I totally agree with ya. LandQuake/Mine was screaming Thunderclash to me even though I had an idea that they used the mold for LandShark because of the "Land" prefix. Roddy woulda been a pretty good LandShark and would have looked better with those LandShark colors.

Actually we've gotten them all...Kup, Scourge, Landshark, Flak, and now Thunderclash.

Skyquake and Leozack were "unofficial" which leaves (since they have in the past) a reveal for the attendee exclusive. I personally am hoping for Sweep using the original Sideways mold. Hoping for a 2-pack add-on, but It'll probably be only one.

Actually, the Iacon packeges were considered to be "sold out". As were the "loose" sets. Now I may be wrong, but at this stage only attendee sets, aka Primus packages are still left up for grabs so that they can hopefully get more people to come and there will be opportunity for people to purchase them at the show. At least that's what I got outta the release.

Is someone taking this a tad bit too much seriously/offensively? Hasbro isnt going to make the exact same paintjob on a different toy. You can't expect hasbro to listen exculsively to long time fans, they're making the stuff for normal people too (not to say that long time fans aren't normal people). Red windows would've probably turned off some people to buying the package so they had to make it look like a somewhat realisticly painted truck.

I will agree though that there is a little too much blinding white in robot mode =/

Well this figure for me is just another good reason I passed this year. I've been wanting to buy a whole set after the 07 debacle but these last 2 years haven't been nearly as enticing. I mean I would really like to have Kup and Scourge, I think Flak is nice but not worth much to me.

My plan would have been to buy a set and sell off what I don't want but I have a hard time thinking someone would want to buy a loose Landshark, Thunderclash or Flak for enough to make it worth my while to get the whole set. Hopefully I can find a Kup for cheap after the 'con even though it's highly unlikely. Even if you don't think Kup looks great what classics fan is gonna pass up having one for their Classics display?

I'm pretty sure making a truck as ugly as they did will turn people off more than red windows. If you're gonna use an ugly paint scheme you might as well do it exactly like the original to get the hard core fans wanting it more. Or maybe Takara plans to release this guy in his exact color scheme (ala henkei style) 2 years from now so fans can get this guy if he's just too popular not to do him, you know like '07 Thundercracker

After looking at botmode pictures of both the G2 Thunderclash and Botcon Thunderclash side by side, I now understand why there's so much red on the legs, sadly it doesn't help the vehicle mode.

The head actually isn't that far off, just needs the horns on the sides. The bottom half of the bot mode looks good, but the top half is way too white. I would have:

1) painted the forearms teal and the hands blue
2) painted the wheels gold

3) Make the elite guard symbol fill the raised section on the chest.

The vehicle mode looks like ass. I wouldn't have carried the red on the front half past the grill. I would have done the back wing in teal and the verticals in a darker blue or maybe more gooold .
