Yeah, Energon. They just used Classics Rodimus, and they won't use the same mold two years in a row.
It's honestly the only truck I can think of that will allow him to have his chest symbol.
I did it!

The link now points to an error page (probably at Fun Publication's request). This must mean that the rumor is true. Maybe Pete@BotCon did not want someone else stealing his thunder.

THAT mold AGAIN?? (Sigh!)

Nice drawing.

I was thinking that myself the other day. Good mold, has a base-like feature.

That's what should be Thunderclash. Just need a new head…
Superquad7
Yep, among other things.
Emperor Zarak
would love to get but can't afford botcon or it >.<

Thunderclash is almost certainly going to be some variation on a truck, so they can do the massive winged symbol on his chest like the original.
Question is, which truck mold is it going to be? I'd imagine a Voyager, though there's not many trucks that spring to mind in that size class. In fact, other than Classics Optimus, the main hit seems to be Armada Red Alert, who's not what I'd be choosing for the character.
In fact, a better fit might be the Combat Hero Optimus Prime from G2. That's who I'd choose to use if the mold was available. Arm cannon evokes Thunderclash's base gun, chest can incorporate the wings of the logo at the very least on the windows. New head would look good on the mold and it's not an overused mold either.
Failing that, Energon Rodimus would be an excellent fit and maybe more likely given the pool of molds available. And hey, I could Powerlink him with my TFCC Nightbeat.

Classics Rodimus? Do you maybe mean ENERGON Rodimus?
Gryph
I'm pretty certain Rodimus will be used for Thunder Clash.

Understood. Much of the criticism of the time was that the robots had too many "human" characteristics. I assume that's one of your gripes, as well?
Superquad7
That's certainly cool. That's one thing I really like about IDW as opposed to DW (advocating very different styles as opposed to one set "house style" that each artist must conform to).
I did want to stress the point that much of my dislike for Mr. Wildman's artwork is only on Transformers, not his overall portfolio of work. As an artist, I actually think he does an exceptional job.
G.B. Blackrock
I think that, even back then, Wildman was a love-him-or-hate-him artist.
I liked his work, myself….
Superquad7
For Transformers? Sure, but give me Geoff Senior any day of the week over any other artist that worked on Transformers in the 80's, though.
As for overall in the comic book industry in the 80's, I'd definitely have to disagree. There are a great number of artists who illustrated very high quality work for comic books during the time Transformers was being published. As I stated (and Wildman wasn't the only guilty party), Transformers was illustrated more like any run-of-the-mill superhero book instead of a book about robots that transform into machines. I really place more blame on Marvel on this than anything because that was their house style much like any other publisher has their own expectations that they want for any given title.
Sol Fury
Nice! I've wanted a new version of Skyquake since forever and this will fill the void nicely.
Though I always loved the gigantic flying fortress Skyquake, so my first choice would have been Tidal Wave with a new head. But this makes a good substitute. The artwork is fantastic too, and certainly makes me think of the legendary super-Decepticon.
G.B. Blackrock
And does it come with a Candygram?
T16skyhopp
i wish.

These names are odd. Landshark?
Is it a transformable Chevy Chase with Shark suit?
ORIO
Well the last two botcon issues tied into classics universe and the club comics and such (with cliffjumper ending up in the shatteredverse and now the club combiner characters are in that universe too). So I guess classics, yeah
