Botcon has shared via their Facebook page some in-hand images of the 2013 exclusive, Machine Wars “Teleporting” Skywarp. The Revenge of the Fallen Dirge remold comes with a new head, translucent purple elements and a whole lot of white on his design – check out the images attached to this story.
Botcon 2013 takes place over the weekend of 27-30 June 2013. Pre-registration closes on next Tuesday 11 June 2013 – head on over to Botcon.com to find out more!

Yup, that's my feeling as well. For me, it works for the character (though I really don't know a lot about MW), but it wouldn't matter to me who the character is, or how it is deco'd, I just don't like the mold personally. Would love if they packed a repaint of this in with something else I don't want so I don't have to spend money on at least one of the add-on sets.
Although I am hoping for a Reflector repaint of Perceptor for the troop builder, I would love if it was auto-troopers (or something like that) out of Warpath so I could just split one set with two other people.

2009 and 2012 say high.

Completely agree on your origin of Machine Wars story. Mirage and Megatron would have been intended to be those characters in G2, but the flip-changer molds never got released in G2. Machine Wars was pretty much about slapping well known names onto unrelated toys with unrelated color schemes.
But regardless, Machine Wars existed and went untouched by everyone else until now. They are going to make everyone more aware of Machine Wars and make us care where we had no reason to before.
If you don't like it as Skywarp, then take it on its own merits.

i think it looks good but i hate the mold

I really like how the head sculpt came out. Still doesn't do a whole lot for me, and I don't want it still, but it looks good. I might try to get this figure someday.

Just curious what are the fans saying and want?

I was hoping to see in the original reveal pic that the wingtips were all transparent purple, but it doesn't look like it. You can see where they photoshopped the wing in just that one part to be clear (showing through to the under slung missile).

still looks shit to me.
never been a fan of the mold or white transformers

I just don't like the mold in general. This will be one of the ones (like many people I think) that I will be selling. Just don't think I need this or Obsidian, though I don't have the Obsidian mold yet, so maybe I will like it. If I didn't hope to be a Prime completionist, Megaplex would be on my list too.
Really actually like how this figure turned out, just never cared for the starting mold.

Still not seeing this mold as Skywarp. The colors are too close to Jetblade and the differences too minor to make a difference.
And it's not just the color. Also the type of jet (VTOL) and the shape of the jet are such a departure from MW Skywarp that I just can't see this as such. If they'd painted it yellow with black and called it MW Thrust (colors of the BW2 and VTOL like G1) that I could see. But not as Skywarp.
I still think the Classics Thunderwing mold would've been a better choice. Would've required a new chest, but at least the shape of the jet is reminscent of MW Skywarp. (And a green repaint as Thundercracker would've been bought immediately.)

That teleporting effect is terrible. Those things just never really work on a static toy. It's like when they paint dirt.

Fix
I think a cost effective fix for this, to have it come out much better, would have been to mold larger parts in translucent. You then paint over them in an uneven style for the tele-porting effect, while at the same time making it LOOK like the parts aren't molded exactly the same.

To be fair, Machine Wars was a weird side line that didn't really fit in with the Transformers brand. Like some weird KO's. How many of us really take the Machine Wars line seriously? This butt ugly thing is a homage to the Machine Wars Skywarp but what did Machine Wars Skywarp have to do with the Skywarp we all know & love? When you think "Skywarp" you think black & purple! This is just another one of those random robots that had a G1 name slapped on it to boost sales.
I'm one of the biggest Skywarp fans around. Skywarp was my very first Transformer. He'll always have that special place in my heart, no other TF can ever be the 1st, Skywarp has that honor. But this IS NOT Skywarp! This thing has no place in my Skywarp collection. Machine Wars doesn't really count for anything except being just plain weird. So yeah, one of the biggest Skywarp fans around & I'm with Tigerhawk on this one.

The worst botcon set. They are not listening to the fans at all. Just a money grab.

one can always hope. occasionally they make awesome figures, like Deathsaurus, SkyByte, Autotroopers, and Runabout/Muck. and its because of awesome figures like those that really make me want to like them. and the change to the FSS business model gave me hopes. then again, this is their first attempt at such a thing so some growing pains re to be expected. I simply hope that such wrinkles get ironed out next year.
Metroplex79
Not as obvious as the Jetblade repaint.
(better lighting on this shot)
But then again, I'm a "leg" guy.
Stepper
The breast of the figure seems too obvious.

I actually really like the teleporting effect. It's actually what's warming me up to it, despite my initial dislike of the mold choice.
I do agree about the Waspinator repaint. Make it happen, guys!
Thundershot
Excellent rendition of the figure it's supposed to represent. I would have rather it not have the teleporting effect… but it is what it is.
What I REALLY want is a Waspinator repaint out of it. You hear that, Pete??
gawddammit
Clearly.
