BotCon 2012 Custom Class Figure is Shattered Glass Longarm

... Longarm?

Normally I'm all over Classics stuff - and yes, I'm upset that there will be this permanent hole in my Classics collection...

... But LONGARM? WTF?

Can someone explain the meaning of Longarm? Was he a Wrecker and what does a purple paintjob mean? Is it hearkening back to Animated that Longarm Prime was really Shockwave and that the Alternators Jazz and Shockwave shared the same molds?

Yes, Longarm (Prime) was Shockwave's Autobot alias in Animated. I like how the speakers have been painted like Shockwave's eyes.

Yeah not gonna lie. I saw this and went WTF? Looks like Alt. Shockwave to me.

Makes roundabout sense.... he's a Classics version of Alternators Shockblast. Since he doesn't have a remolded Shockwave head, and has a human face instead, he must be Shockblast's Animated-based alter-ego, Longarm.

So he's a.... bad guy with a good guy cover, in a universe where evil and good are flipped, which makes him a good guy with a bad guy cover. So he's a heroic Decepticon taking a car mode and a human face to blend in with the evil Autobots.

I like the insane, line-spanning logic behind it. And I can already tell I'll be sad not to have a pretty purple Jazz on my shelves. Sigh.

And also alt Meister and alt shockblast shared a mold so that's another connection

Looks pretty neat. I like the homage in a homage in a homage too.

I might have considered it if it wasn't the custom toy, but I can't pay those sort of prices for this.

Oh well, at least it's not like the last 2 years where I was VERY mad that I could never afford the custom class toys.

I hope this doesn't stop a possible Generations Alternators Shockwave by Hasbro in the future if they wanted to do one, after all they did do Classics Overkill.

Please tell me the "super secret special bonus" is that the head is two-sided so I can make this Shockwave or Longarm. That would totally salvage this for me.

e.g., if this is "Shattered Glass Classics Alternators Animated Longarm Shockwave" then I'm all in on this guy, if for no other reason than the fact that it's preposterously brilliant.

Just talked to Brian about it as he was waiting for the last tour dude. Apparently the toy has so many named internally, as he couldn't remember/didn't know what the final name ended up being.

If this were a mass-release, or even a regular con-exclusive I would've expected a third-party Shockwave head, which would've made this a must-buy for anyone who owns an Alt. Shockwave, I think.

As-is, the class figures are way too rare for anyone to do that.

But it does make me wonder... would FoC Shockwave's head fit on Jazz?

Shockblast was repainted from Alternators Jazz.

Shockwave was repainted from Universe Jazz.

BUT they can't use the name Shockwave here so they used the name of Animated Shockwave's Autobot alter-ego instead.

If I had a slot in the class I wouldn't have been disappointed, but this is something I could live without. I would still have wanted to go to the class, but this isn't something I'll have envious nerdrage over.

I'm not sure why there's such a mixed reaction to this figure. It's probably one of the better planned figures from this year. The exclusive surprise makes it even better (if you don't wanna be spoiled, skip over the tags).

I'm really liking this, but a lot of it is going to be determined by how good the Shockwave head looks. This is one of the few "multi-purpose" Shattered Glass figures they did this year that works for me:

• Classics Jazz to Classics Shockwave to homage the Alternators - Nice!
• Converts between Shockwave and Longarm (sounds like you might have to head swap, which is a bummer) to homage Animated - Nice!
• It's Shattered Glass - Meh.

Looking forward to building one tomorrow! Hopefully he'll be an easy add to my classics shelf.

They do custom heads every year and are licensed to do so. So, no.

Ugh. Why does so much of this year's set suck? I would think this was cool if I hadn't seen a Radicon already do it, and do it a lot better.

Its a homage to Alternators Shockblast in Alternators Shockblast colors.

The only thing Shattered Glass here is the title and the backstory. Just words. Nothing to do with the toy itself.

This is exactly the kind of feelings the customs class fig should generate, I think. As the most unobtainable of the Botcon figs, the sweet spot seems to be something that is a fun bonus but not indispensable for most people.

Soooo.... for all those who don't like it, who wants to sell me theirs?

I definitely don't disagree with you there. The thing that I like about this is there's precedent set for a Jazz to Shockwave repaint with Alternators. They kept the coloring in-line with what I'd expect from a non-SG Shockwave toy, so I should be able to slap a giant 'con sticker on him and have him be very passable as a Classics Shockwave.

My only concern at this point is the execution on the head sculpt.

True, but where would the average person place it in their collection? It's too small for Alternators, so the default would be to place it in the classics SG group.

Its not supposed to go in Alternators. Its only based on an Alternators toy. Its still a Universe Classics mold so it goes in the same lines that Jazz fits into.

I mean, it isn't "Botcon Custom Class aftermarket price" good (then again, I don't think anything is), but it's still really cool! It helps that Alt Shockwave is one of my favorite toys.

I agree. SG Shockwave - SG symbol = Classics Shockwave, assuming the alternate head works. He's still purple, after all.

Although it's not like most of us will ever have the luxury to have that problem.
