Check out a transcript of the live panel coverage to the TCC Roundtable!

TCC Roundtable(05/30/2009)*
3:06 Okay, next up the TFCC Roundtable
3:06 Hopefully we'll get a look at the new exclusive toys
3:08 Okay, I'll shoot down Omega Doom right now, we were told yesterday he's not on the immediate plans
3:11 [Comment From Cybertron Toys]
question from club member: ask them why they seem to be able to do 12-14 botcon exclusives but they can't give us club members our 2 figures per year like promised\
3:11 the original plan was for rwo exclusives a year, however it is a tough job because Takara are reluctant to do low number stuff. They want to do these things at one time not one here and one there
3:12 Punch Counterpunch is your first 2009 TFCC exclusive!
3:12 Concept art only, he'll be in the 2010 club comic. Sideswipe / Sunstreaker Universe remold, new head.
3:13 He's going to be a G1 esque personality, he'll still be the double agent, but they'll use him differently
3:14 Second one is still a mystery, he will be a larger mold, will be featured prominently in the 2010 comic
3:14 Reason for not annoucing it is because they do not know if they can use the mold / if the mold is usable.
3:15 Currently talking about the process of creating the awesome box set,
3:15 the box I mean
3:17 Showing some concept paints for Razorclaw
3:17 wax sculpt for the Scourge head
3:17 Colour layout plan for Scourge
3:18 [Comment From Backpack]
Box for the Mystery figure? or Punch/Counterpunch ?
3:18 2009 boxed set, nothing shown on Mr Mystery
3:18 Only that he is a big guy
3:19 Now showing the colour chart for Kup
3:20 Showing the first samples they got of Landshark, the first ones had red instead of copper which looks a lot worse then the final version.
3:22 Apparently the original Landshark prototype also could not transform properly, where the mechanism was gutted the buttons were glued in place stopping it attaching properly. They really worked hard to get what they wanted for this one.
3:24 T Shirts - they like to change up the styles a bit to keep it original
3:26 2010 exclusives, the next three (or five) will have a theme to them. Stories are planned in advance.
3:26 Whether a merge group or not there will always be a theme
3:26 That is for the club sign up freebie
3:28 There's a plan to collect the TFCC comics into a graphic novel
3:29 The reason we did not get the Movie this year - it's not finished, too far out to do it. As much as they'd like to have had it.
3:29 [Comment From Ferret]
What mechanism was gutted from Landshark?
3:30 The SFX from Landmine where he made the TF sound when you plug it into the back of the figure
3:30 [Comment From General Tekno]
What's the upcoming theme then?
3:31 Unknown. Just that there will be a theme
3:31 [Comment From Scaleface]
What were the other names they considered for Nexus Maximus?
3:32 Prime Nexus & Maximus Prime
3:32 [Comment From C16]
Did Punch's concept art show anything about a dual head like the original's toy?
3:32 Looks like it.
3:33 [Comment From Cybertron Toys]
why not Nexus Prime?
3:33 Hasbro closely guards the use of "Prime"
3:34 This year's set was constrained by certain restrictions imposed by Hasbro - things like being told entire assortments are ruled off limits.
3:35 It's a juggling act between what they want and what they can do
3:36 OMG big hint about next year's set - it comes in a box and features Transformers
3:37 In all seriousness, they wait to see what the feedback on the forums are. They have ideas but they do not make any major decisions until later on.
3:37 [Comment From Matt]
what do you mean by assortments are rulled of limtis?
3:38 They're told things like "all the Minicons are unavilable" wholesale
3:38 [Comment From tyeleo]
whats the theme for next years set?
3:39 Too early to say, they say they have ideas, but they're not ready to reveal it.
3:39 [Comment From Loosecannon]
So hasbro actively limits the toys available?
3:40 They basically say "we intend to use certain toys" which means Fun Pub cannot use those molds
3:42 Polling the audience - three possibilities THIS IS NOT CONFIRMING ANYTHING - G1 reissues, reimagined versions of the characters, or a glow in the dark set. Again, this is asking what people think, NOT CONFIRMING ANYTHING HAPPENING AT ALL NONE OF THIS MIGHT HAPPEN.
3:43 All different possibilities for the Seacons right there.
3:46 The TFCC exclusives Doublespy and the other guy will hopefully be made some time this year. Depends on when Takara can fit them in.
3:48 Club magazine is locked into a certain number of pages, their printers work in blocks of 16 pages, so anything other than 32 pages would get expensive.
3:48 [Comment From Loosecannon]
Any idea when the other figure will be confirmed?
3:49 As soon as they have the availability of the mold confirmed and the feasibility done, they'll announce it. Watch the frontpage, we;ll put it up as a story when they announce it
3:54 Botcon 2005 Defensor has been looked at as a possible exclusive of some sort, it is just currently not viable.
3:56 They want to stress even with the difficulty to make exclusives there is no animosity to Takara
3:56 Also, Master Collector does not add a lot to shipping on comic months
4:00 Okay, that's the end of the panel, I'm taking five here and enjoying the Cullen panel then off to Paramount!

Second exclusive must be an older mold - Universe Defensor/Hot Spot maybe?
guard convoy:
DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PUNCH/COUNTERPUNCH

soooo joining sooon as possible and saving the money for this bad boy
Im No Hero:
is joining tfcc free. btw the thing wont send my messages.
Kenucme:
I'm just waiting on word for next year's 'free' membership figure.
Scantron:
Depending on the price, I'll definitely get Punch/Counterpunch. Perfect mold for it.

No - it costs at least $40 ($80 international).

The only comments that are show are those that Sol allows to show. He's not on the panel.
Chris McFeely:
They're on to an absolute winner with Punch/Counterpunch.
Powersa:
yeah for P/CP I might do it.
Sso02V:
I may just have to join the club for Punch/Counterpunch.
Chris McFeely:
I'm not clear if Punch is the sign-up freebie, like Heatwave this year, or if he's a club store exclusive that you'll have to pay more for... I assume store...
Loosecannon:
I cant justify renewing for one classics toy - need to know what the others/free ones will be!

I wonder if the larger figure is G1 for if the mold is available?
ZacWilliam:
I'll join for Punch/CounterP IF...IF... the headsculpt/s is good. I would have thought I would have joined for Nightbeat... but it was such a bad likeness it didn't happen. Hope this time is better.
ZacWilliam:
Wow, their reason for not using Nexus Prime is kinda dumb. Hasbro "guards it closely". He IS a Prime in the fiction they aproved though. And thaat fiction, they approved, that named him a Prime already was written by one of their own employees...

Edit: 3:36 - darn there goes my idea for a brown-bagged Go-bots exclusive set...
Trek:
Wow - Next years set sounds awesome!!!
Kenucme:
@ Sol Fury...

I wonder if that's the same reason the Animated Rodimus toy is named "Rodimus Minor". As he's been confirmed to be a Prime multiple times by Wyatt.

Although it's likely he was a minor at point in his career.

From what I understand Punch/Counterpunch is not the exclusive for next year.

It seems to be more in line with the Seacons, Astrotrain and Nightbeat

Yeah, that was my understanding too.
Kenucme:
Oh, for sure...

Let's try a 'glow in the dark' set next year.

wait... why not try it?
Silent_Magnus:
A glow in the dark transformers set would be interesting.
I wonder what the in-universe justification would be?

Someone turned the lights out?
ZacWilliam:
Hmm... They're polling between G1 Reissue, Reimagined characters, or Glow-in-the-dark...

G1 reissues... most if not all those available that are popular have been done.

Reimagined... Can be great when it works but it's a fine line finding a mold that works enough to capture an old character (Kup and Scourge this year fail for me)

Glow in the Dark... A gimick...BUT a gimick that hasn't been used on TFs before, could be lame but could be kinda sweet if done right... A TF in all glowing green and black could be neat.
Loosecannon:
G1 reissues? - like commemerative series / encore? Or e-hobby...

Or is reimagining like ehobby?

Sols gonna hate me for all the questions I'm sending him!
frenzy_rumble:
oh man, counterpunch/punch...wonder what mold they are using....

Thought it was confirmed as the same one you used?
Loosecannon:
Erm... that is the mold they are using - or you just making a point with your pic?
Slimaximus:
Knowing F_R he is making a point that the Radicons are the true masterminds of greatness
deathsheadx:
oh come on...

is this for real?

mannnnnn!

how the hell does this sort of thing happen? i mean hasbro has gone on record as saying that this mold was designed with varients in mind. punch/counterpunch should of been on the drawing board from the start. it's such a simple varient to do.

and yet... TFCC gets it?? no general release?

sigh...

okay how much is this going to cost me--- gah! got to stay strong! got to remember i don't do exclusives!

Even I'm caving in on this one he was one of my favorite toys as a kid, probably going to cost the same as Nightbeat which was $45 i believe
slugslinger2004:
Great news on Punch/Counterpunch! Will be bought depending on how it looks...
Napjr:
Shame Tomy/Takara dont like to make low runs for exclusives... or at least exclusives that arent theirs! since they bring at least 6-10 per year! o_O

so it'll basically cost me 125 dollars(joining the club as an international + price for figure) to get this figure?
Loosecannon:
Nope...

$80 to join

$45 for the figure

$?? shipping + customs (since it is marked at value) = $35?

yup or ask someone thats a member already to buy you one and then pay normal shipping
Scantron:
Well, that was underwhelming, other than Punch/Counterpunch. I'm not sure I'm willing to join up for another 3 - 5 year "theme" set of membership exclusives. G1 reissues, maybe, depending on who they are (G1 Thrust and/or Ramjet as Club exclusives would be nice, but I can't see it).

Im on the same boat, plus i cant keep paying the same price for the membership as europeans

I mean, i "kinda" accept that crossing the seas makes shipping more costly, but Mexico being next to the US (Just like Canada), we still pay $80???
Loosecannon:
When the exchange rate was better it was bearable, but now...

Its too much for too little. It really does depend on the big figure, and to me if it is G1...
Slimaximus:
Honestly anyone that is being hurt with the BS international price hike can get in touch with me when time comes around and I would have no problem getting extras and charging you cost + shipping to you, b/c the over price for international is a bit ludacris
Cast:
Punch Counter Punch, first club exclusive I'm actually going to buy, sorry FP but the rest have been real stinkers, I love nightbeat as a character but that toy was an insult to him, this one sounds fantastic.

Something a friend and I discussed once: Imagine the Vehicons. They're all primarily in dark colours, but most of them have little bright neon highlight colors on them. Jetstorm's got yellow bits, Thrust too. Now, imagine if these bits were glow in the dark. It'd be 'awesome.'
eisen:
Woohoo bludgeon!!
ORIO:
Remember you won't just be joinin the club for one exclusive toy. you get: the exclusive freebie toy, discounted exclusive club toys, the club mag (which I love, its just too short) discounts for botcon stuff and so on. But its still your own opinion and tastes. So if you feel 40 bones is worth it, do it up!

And man, that sucks ass for you international folk. That needs to be adjusted. Napjr, I'm in new mexico if you ever need anything from the club hit me up. I'm closer than some
Thundershot:
Ok, it's great we're getting Punch/Counterpunch. That's a no-brainer. But the answers we get are getting old. I think the club should let the members get more involved. I'm tired of comments like "we have some really great ideas.... but we can't tell you yet. This exclusive will blow your mind... but we can't tell you anything. We can't do this figure... for reasons we won't go into"

Why NOT let us in on the process? Make it clear from the start that there are no guarantees, but throw the ideas at he people who are potentially going to buy these figures. I'd love for us to see a list of concepts and see the whole process of approval and rejection in play. We could make comments and be able to give advice or criticisms. I know it's askinga lot, but I'm sick of always being in the dark when it comes to a club we pay to be a part of...
